Pregnant after IF

First Trimester Check-in - Week of January 8

Re: First Trimester Check-in - Week of January 8

  • 1. How far along are you? What is your EDD? I’m at 7 weeks, EDD is August 29th the day before my bday.

    2. What pregnancy symptoms are you having?
    Sore boobs, nausea, constipation, exhaustion,
    3. When is your next appointment?
    January 16th
    4. Anything else you'd like to share? My husband and I have been married almost 9 years. We have been trying for over 7 years. I was diagnosed with PCOS around 6 years ago. I had to have a Hysterscopy and DNC last year because of calcifications in my uterus. I just turned 30 last August 30th and I was praying I’d have a baby by 30. Well my husband transferred with his work so we moved and the 1st month in our new place we ended up pregnant! I had been Keto since May but fell off in november so it was a shock since we were not focused on baby making for two months.

QOTW:  What kind of family leave does your employer offer? Are they mom-friendly (e.g. flex scheduling, lactation space)? I get 6 weeks leave my hubby also gets 6 weeks. I just started a new job so it’s stressful to be pregnant at a new company.
  • I talked to one of the nurses yesterday and they won't allow the additional scan.  I was really disappointed but but hopefully everything is fine and I'll be seeing my OB in a few weeks.  Oh well.

  • @laurad75 That sucks, I'm sorry. The wait will be tough, I'm sure.
  • @sarcasticowl Thanks.  My clinic is huge and there are some pros as well as cons to that.  One of the cons has been that I am one of hundreds of patients they see each week so now that my 7 week scan looked good I've been discharged and that's it.  I haven't even had a conversation with my doctor since before we started treatment for DE IVF.  I thought he would at least call to say congratulations but nothing.  It's a bit off putting but at the end of the day, I'm pregnant so I don't want to complain too much.

  • @laurad75 I'm sorry your clinic won't let you get the extra scan. I know it's hard with a big clinic, and sometimes it's tough, and with insurance too, what they cover for certain Medical diagnosis or whatever, is what they will do.  Nothing more.  My clinic is pretty big too, and while I was bummed out that my own doctor wasn't going to be available for my second transfer, I was grateful that there was another doctor available to still keep me on schedule. So I haven't seen her since my first transfer, either. I guess every clinic really is different though, because I had my first scan already at 5 + 2, then my second scan will be at 6 + 5 to hear the heartbeat, and then 10 days later is when I graduate.  So I will be 8 + 1 at that point, I think.  Hang in there!!!  I know it's hard, but try to just trust and believe that everything is okay. ❤❤❤
  • @laurad75 I know all about feeling like a tiny fish in a big pond. My clinic is also huge (they have 4 locations across the state and mine is the main hub) and if I ever send a message in the patient portal to a specific nurse who I've seen, I never hear back but if I send it out into the ether to whoever feels like answering, I get an answer from someone I've never even met before. I'm sure they're all burned out but it still hurts to feel like no one is really looking out for you.
  • Ok apparently the mad emoji made the rest of my post disappear lol! I get another scan and intralipid IV #2 in one week and will start the heparin tonight.
    TTC since May 2013
    Mild PCOS, Compound Heterozygous MTHFR
No Folic acid/pharmaceuticals/supplements (too many to list- private message me if interested), IVIL infusion
  • @lablover78 I would literally burn my RE's office down if they neglected to tell me to start a medication. I don't know how you didn't choke someone  :p
  • @laurad75 I’m sorry you feel like that at your clinic. My clinic was similar but at least my RE called personally with my beta results which is their policy. He was also present for my ultrasounds. Prior to my bfp I hadn’t seen him for months!
I also worry a lot so I got a home doppler so I can at least hear the heartbeat between visits. It takes some skill but I was able to first hear it at 9+3. I just wouldn’t advise it if you think you will worry more if you can’t find it. It’s gotten much easier with time but sometimes I still can’t find it. Baby is just uncooperative sometimes.

@lablover78 Congrats on a good u/s and seeing the HB!

@bpietronicco I’m so sorry. Hugs to you and and FX for better news next week.

@BusinessWife I know exactly what you mean. I feel like although I’m pregnant it’s hard to believe it and embrace it like I see other ladies on my BMB do. I often feel like I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop and I still feel jealous when I see obviously pregnant women because I’m not confident that I will make it to that stage. It sucks that IF is still stealing some of the joy out of this process. I know it will get better the further along we get though.

I’m super late this week, I’ve been fighting a cold and work has been crazy.

    1. How far along are you? What is your EDD? 12+3. 07/23

    2. What pregnancy symptoms are you having? Still tired, Brest pain, crazy bloat. Some cramping this week but I think that’s just from coughing so much.

    3. When is your next appointment? Saw the MFM today. NT scan was normal and took blood for NIPT. Baby actually looked like a baby today which was exciting to see! I think next appointment is 1/25 with OB

    4. Anything else you'd like to share?

QOTW:  What kind of family leave does your employer offer? Are they mom-friendly (e.g. flex scheduling, lactation space)? I get 2 months unpaid. It’s not much so hoping I can work until I pop to get all of it with the baby.
  • I realized I’ve been lurking all week and haven’t even posted yet.. oops
    7 weeks 6 days EDD 8/24/18

    symptoms-sore boobs, tired and nauseous

Next appointment is Monday 15th, first appointment with our OB and I am super nervous. It’ll be two weeks since we graduated from our RE & I’m basically dying for another ultrasound ASAP.  Hopefully they give me one!

Anything else I’d like to share.... so apparently I’ve gone completely crazy, I swung by Walgreens on the way home and bought a pregnancy test. I decided it’s been awhile since I peed on a stick and I needed whatever reassurance I could get.  Who else pees on sticks at almost 8 weeks?! I think I’m just nervous of bad news on Monday. Anyway I’m still pregnant lol

I’m super lucky when it comes to leave, I get 16 weeks with full pay.  My husband will probably only get a couple days, he’s not so lucky.
  • @sadd2013 that’s awesome that you’re pg after so long trying! Must be something in the water at your new place.

@safire3 congrats on a good NT scan! How awesome that it’s starting to look like a baby!!

@hreason1114 wow what a great maternity leave situation!! And lol to peeing on a stick- that’s IF!

I have my last RE appointment tomorrow and can’t wait! I’m gonna miss these weekly u/s though.

  • @hreason1114 dont feel bad, I only stopped temping like a couple days ago lol
  • @lablover78 amazing you saw heartbeat flutter!  So glad for you. @sarcasticowl haha! I am so with you, I'm so sick of some of my doctors and I would have lost it!  So @lablover78 tell us more- how could they just forget to put you on a medication? And what did you say to them? I'm working on dealing with doctors and I get really pissed off.
  • Hey @mac627 do weekly ultrasounds concern you at all?  I was going to go in for an 11 week but then I started googling....and we know we can't believe everything we read but I found information that said they were not good for the baby.  Thoughts?  My doc said to do whatever made me feel the most comfortable...if it lessened my anxiety go ahead.

  • So I had typed this yesterday but when the bump deleted I just didn’t go back but yes I was so mad! The sonographer I saw when I had my intralipid 2 weeks ago said she was going to check with RE about Heparin which I believe I’m on b/c of MTHFR and blood clot potential. Well I never got a call but did receive a text from my pharmacy. Called my pharmacy and asked what had been called in and they said syringes. Because I was supposed to start IVF meds I just assumed it was for that and their mistake. I never followed up which is obviously my fault but hey I’ve got pregnancy brain!! Basically my RE is super smart with terrible bedside manners and an incompetent staff who seem new since I don’t remember either of the girls I’ve been dealing wit last year. My husband gave me the side-eye when he sensed my anger rising so that’s really the only reason I didn’t flip out. Just hoping that if any clots had started to form are being taken care of now. Those injections burn!

  • @sarcasticowl congrats! Great news.

@lablover78 ugh. How annoying. Its crazy how on top of everything we need to be. Cant ever assume they are on top of it all. Im lucky that i have a specific nurse who was managing my case and for the most part, was on top of eveyrthing. However i very rarely see my doctor. There was one time something nearly got missed but in a year thats pretty good. I hope no real harm came from you missing 2 weeks of your meds.

Afm had my first US today. We saw a heartbeat, i think it was 115bpm. Everything measured perfectly, 6w1d. So that was pretty great. I had some tears in my eyes. Now the trick is to keep my emotions in check bc its still so early and my loss was so late last time. But everyday we're one day closer! Next appt is in 2 weeks and then OB 2.5 after that.
I was kind of annoyed it was a nurse practitioner doing the scan bc there was a chance it was going to be my doctor. But the np def. Knows what shes doing (probably more than some the young doctors-once i had one who literally couldnt find my ovaries- the nurse gracefully stepped in to help) and as my husband pointed out, i didnt really need a doctor to do it. And if there were a problem they would have gotten a doctor. Also i did get lucky that my doctor did my successful transfer, he hadnt done any of my other procedures. So why am i complaining? I guess i jut kinda wanted a full circle where he got to tell us the good news almost a year and a half after we first met with him. Anyway whatevs. Good news day!

  • @hopefulmom I’m on Heparin twice per day and a ton of fish oil. I know lots of ladies are given aspirin but he doesn’t have me on that. At 20 weeks I’m supposed to stop heparin and start the supplement L-Arginine.

I barely had anytime with the RE yesterday and I was all excited to see him and bask in the glory of my natural BFP and stroke his ego as I fully believe the supplements and diet got me here but when I asked how he was he said “busy, they didn’t put you on my schedule” and proceeded to take a swab from my vag before basically running out of the room, so I didn’t really feel like I could ask him anything haha.

  • @lablover78 Your RE’s office sucks as much as mine!
  • Yay @sarcasticowl and @gfgrump!!!   Great news today!!! So happy for you.  @gfgrump I hope you can enjoy a bit, coming this far is a huge accomplishment on your part! @lablover78 that's probably good your husband was there to keep you calm, it isn't healthy to get so mad and stressed out. I got all bent out of shape yesterday about covering our front bushes before the freeze and I felt worried all night that I had got my heart rate up to far messing with it outside. Anyway, better to stay calm as getting riled up doesn't help anything so good for you!
  • @hoff079 I didn’t know anything about that- and now that I’ve done it already I don’t want to know! My RE just does weekly u/s routinely.

At any rate today was my last one- I officially graduated today!!

**I had to change my SN this week, but those who know me can probably figure it out**

This week was my last RE appointment and I am 13 weeks tomorrow and going into the second trimester. I had my first OB appointment yesterday and I am going back in a week for their scan and genetic testing (AMA). It's hard to believe this is all happening! I will start checking in with the 2nd tri threads, but wanted to wish you all the best and pray for healthy, uneventful pregnancies!
  • So sorry I have been MIA this week- it’s been tough- have been trying not to think about it.   Had ultrasound today and there is a heartbeat of 115 but baby measuring a week behind and yolk sac still large.  Still not looking good - but go back next week for another scan. I appreciate everyone’s support.
  • Praying for you @bpietronicco
