Product Spotlight 1/8: Bath Time!

This is a place for FTMs to ask questions and S+TMs to share the wealth of knowledge they've accumulated on baby products. Each week we'll spotlight a new category of product to help streamline and make it easier to refer back. This week it's.... bath time! Tubs, soaps, towels and anything in between.

Please use the prompts below to try to share as much relevant info as you can in a format that is easy for those reading to absorb/respond to. If you'd like to recommend/ask questions about more than one product, please copy/paste the prompts as needed.

    For S+TMs:
    • Lifestyle (house, apartment, travel often, etc): apartment(2 family house)

    • Favorite [bath time item]: Summer Infant Waterfall Bathtub

    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): 49.99

    • What you like about it: I liked the waterfall feature the best, and it lasted us into toddlerhood with the removable incline.

    • What you don't like about it, if anything: The newer version doesn’t have this feature, but mine came with an awful detachable water sprayer. Plus, I think it’s a little over priced for a plastic bathtub.

    • Is there a [bath time item] you don't have but are considering? Why?: If I ever kept my sink completely clean, I would have gotten that cute flower in-sink tub for infants. Because it’s adorable lol. Facebook has also been sending me advertisements for a contraption that creates a dam in the tub so you don’t waste water, my DS wouldn’t like that now, but it would be useful for younger babies.

    • Is there a [bath time item] you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?: bath paints DS got for his birthday that stained my tub for weeks.

    • Additional thoughts on [bath time item]?:

  • @acunamatada I get the dam ads as Well! Cool idea but for older babies I would think, for newborns you would have to hold them in one arm and I would hate that
  • Lifestyle: house

Favourite: Boon SOAK newborn to toddler tub

    cost: $40

what I liked: good size, inside support could be changed or removed depending on baby’s age

what i don’t like: it’s kind of big to store away. It lived in our spare bathroom tub between uses

additional thoughts: I switched them to a few inches of water in the regular tub at about five months old, they loved (and still love) it!

4 moms tub is the one we used and loved. It has a thermometer built in and held up just fine until she could sit up on her own. After she could sit up easily, i moved her into a laundry basket in the tub :)
  • @Crystal321what a great idea re: laundry basket!
    • Lifestyle (house, apartment, travel often, etc): House
    • Favorite [bath time item]: Now that DS is older, we love the foam letters and numbers that stick to the walls.

    • Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): $6
    • What you like about it: It keeps him entertained and distracted.
    • What you don't like about it, if anything: He chews on them a lot, so make sure you keep them dry when not in use.
    • Is there a [bath time item] you don't have but are considering? Why?: Not right now.
    • Is there a [bath time item] you've tried that you absolutely hate? Why?: The squeeze toys where you can squirt water out of them. Don't buy these! They immediately grew mold on the inside and all babies put everything in their mouths, especially at bath time. I was horrified when I saw this. I was able to clean a few and they became regular toys but never again will I put something like that in the tub.
    • Additional thoughts on [bath time item]?: Best decision we made was to have my H be the designated bath time person. From the beginning, he was looking for something that helped him bond with DS since he couldn't do a whole lot (since I was exclusively breastfeeding). He's stuck with it this whole time and now they cherish these nights. They have their routine and sing songs and DS loves it just as much. I love it because I get a very needed break!
  • @Kenya715 I hear if you put a bead of hot glue over hole (so water can't get inside) it won't grow mold. Just a thought  :)

Lurker. :) I used the flower on my now 4 year old and it worked great. I loved it. Easy to toss in dryer and clean. There’s a learning curve to it but I think the warm cushy bath worked for us.  :)

Not following format, just throwing out my random thoughts because we tried a lot of bath things.

The Boon 2-position tub is a death trap. Thr legs collapsed on ours all the time, they would not stay locked in place. And its an expensive death trap! Do not buy.

This bath is a million times better and under $20.

California Baby makes wonderful, natural bath products for babies that are scentless and moisturizing. Highly recommend this brand.

After she started getting close to sitting up on her own, we nixed the bath cradle and just put her Bumbo in the bath. She loved it. We would also use a laundry hamper to put her in to keep her toys close so she didn't have to reach.

When DD was a teeny tiny baby, I just showered with her. We did a few sink baths, but it always felt crowded in our tiny kitchen, and I liked the naked skin time. Plus, no extra tubs to buy! (Note: only for after the cord falls off) I was EXTREMELY careful. My husband was always home when we did this, and always an arms-length away. I always had one hand wrapped around her thigh, supporting her back with my arm, ND used the other hand to wash her down while I kept her close to my body. I'd shower with the door open and he'd stand there in case of a sudden wiggle or in case we ever looked unsteady (we never did) and had a towel over his shoulder so after the five minutes it took to wash her down he could take her and get her ready for bed, and I could enjoy a shower that would last longer than five minutes. We had a shower/tub combo then, and I never stepped in our out with her, he would hand her off to me. This also made sure I remembered to shower regularly while in the newborn haze. He loved getting her warm and ready for sleep (he'd take a hair dryer on low and dry her off after the towel, called it her spa time) the lotion her up and swaddle. It was really nice, and we kept that up until she got too wiggly.
  • We've had these toys since DD1 turned 1. She'll be 7 next week and still plays with them when she takes a bath. DD2 plays with them every night. LO won't play with them until 2019, but these toys were money well spent.
