Re: January 2018 IVF

  • LOL @kiwi2628 -- i'm sure we're all jealous that you have access to medical equipment... can't say I hadn't thought about having my own US machine at home for daily monitoring. haha

  • yay @tosh24 for the great embed report and @hoffmanr7 for being able to trigger soon!

    welcome to @roisis !

AFM, I had a day 7 of stims ultrasound today. Things look to be progressing, so I'm cautiously optimistic. FX I don't get a call today saying my estrogen is still low. I started with an AFC of 20,  and now I have a total of 18 (9 measurable between 11-14mm and 8 "not measurable" under 11). My lining was good, already up to 9, so that's good I guess. I am so happy and grateful things are improving and growing, I guess I'm just surprised that I didn't have a super amazing response given my AFC. I think I'm just being down on myself and trying not to get so excited and positive that I'm more disappointed if things don't go according to "plan". I'm sure the ladies that have done this more than once already know we can't get too attached to "the plan" since we don't really know what will happen. Just trying to stay grateful for what I get and hopeful. Ok I'm rambling now :)

  • @efavell02 try not to compare yourself to others. For IVF they typically try to get you to have 8-14 mature eggs. Of course there are tons of women that have 20+ mature ones, but many of those women have PCOS, so you cannot compare yourself to someone with a different diagnosis. Plus, its still a bit early if your largest one is only 14...you have probably least 2 if not more like 3-4 days of stimming left, which means some of those below 11 could pop up and make it to 15-16 or so, meaning they can sometimes contain a mature egg.
  • @efavell02 well, if you want to compare, you've got a few more and bigger ones than me... and I *do* have PCOS. ;)  What's your stim regimen for the next few days? and when's your next US?

  • @northbeach3 and @kiwi2628 you guys are right, it's not good to compare yourself to others. It's hard not to. On saturday they doubled my menopur to 2 vials (150) and increased follistim from 225 to 300. Haven't gotten a phone call yet today so I assume it will now stay the same. Next US is wednesday, and they said an approximate trigger would be Friday. Thank you guys for helping me stay positive :)

Hows everyone else doing? Anyone else have US today?

@efavell02 I am doing well. Next u/s is tomorrow AM followed by my next acupuncture sesh. I am guesstimating my ER will be Saturday or Sunday based on the last scan, but we will see how fast they are plumping up tomorrow.

My estrogen on Saturday (stim day 4) was 178.5. Does anyone else know their estrogen numbers? Just curious since mine were so low last cycle.
  • @northbeach3 I started my stims on 12/30.....so that puts me at 9 days of stims as of yesterday.
@roisis Welcome! I'm glad you decided to come out of lurking and join us.
@tosh24 Yay for 10 snow babies!!!  As for work, it has somewhat sorted itself out.  I came in for today and tomorrow (in fact I"m staying late tonight because of a staff call in and no one was able to cover it) and will take off the rest of the week.
@kiwi2628 LOL.  That's awesome.  If I had an US machine and I knew how to use it I probably would.
@efavell02 I agree with the others...it's hard, but try not to compare yourself with others.  I think @kiwi2628 is right, if your largest is at 14 you probably have a couple days of stimming left.  That was what happened to me on Saturday.....and now my biggest is 20 with more behind it.

AFM, it is official......we trigger tonight!!  Egg retrieval is set for 10am on Wednesday!!!!!   I plan on coming into work tomorrow, but then am thinking I will take the rest of the week off.  My boss is back Thursday, so that would only leave 1 day without him or I here and they can manage that.

  • Hi Ladies, so... i'm a big nerd and love data and spreadsheets.  To help keep track of everyone's cycles, I made a handy dandy google sheet with pertinent dates and deets.

I've made it editable via the link... so feel free to add more info and i'll try to keep it up to date too.  If you don't feel comfortable having your info included, please delete your row and send me a PM so I don't inadvertently add you back. :)

Newbies, please feel free to add a row for yourself!

    Google Sheet

I'll add the link to my signature so you can easily link back.

  • @hoffmanr7 we’re triggering tonight, too!

Thanks to all who replied about yesterday’s decision. Based on my levels today, we’re going ahead with just an HCG trigger, leaving a fresh transfer on the table. Worked out way better than I was expecting. Hard not to get my hopes up about this all working out, now, but trying to stay cautiously optimistic.

@kiwi2628 I love that you used your own machines! My day 4 (or 5, depending on how you count) was just under 1k and they started me on the cetrotide same day. Now (after day 10) it’s over 3k. Don’t know what they mean/if that helps.

    @roisis welcome!

@northbeach3 I love the idea of a spreadsheet!! So much easier to keep track, as this page can be all over the place at times! :)

    @marfi236 FX AF shows tonight!

AFM: Baseline scheduled for the 15th, so hopefully things will get going soon! Did anyone had genetic carrier screening? My doctor would like to do it, so trying to decide if it's needed.

  • @tosh24 Yay for 10 snow babies!!

@hoffmanr7 @halfanewt. GL with triggering tonight! So exciting!!

@northbeach3 love the spreadsheet! I’m a data nerd too.

Well my ER got delayed as expected.  Today is stim day ten and my largest follicle is only 13 mm. On Saturday largest follicle was 12 mm. The strange thing is my estrogen has gone from 500 on Saturday to 1500 today. I would think that with my estrogen increasing that much my follicles would be growing. I go back Wednesday. Hopefully ER Friday.
  • @northbeach3 thank you so much for the spreadsheet!!! It makes me feel like a real part of this forum.

Congrats to the people triggering!!! It must feel so great to be done with the shots. But probably your  ovaries don’t feel so great?

AFM First 2 nights stimming were easy, I just went to bed after. But tonight my daughter was up so after the injections  I was walking around & bending down. It made me nauseous with a metal taste in my mouth. From now on I’m going to try to stay in bed after the shots. My next sonogram is Wednesday!
Also I tried again to change my nottie name but I have a feeling it won’t work.
  • Oh cool, I changed my name from knottieaf88d8606aaae90d to chillvazz! I worked really hard on that
  • @tosh24 10 is such a great number!!!
@hoffmanr7 @halfanewt good luck triggering tonight! So exciting!!
@northbeach3 thank you so much for making the spreadsheet, it looks great!!

@kristimh80 Is the genetic carrier screening the one where they just screen for like 3 big things like cystic fibrosis and spine abifida? We had the done when we started IUIs and I was not a carrier so we didn't need to get DH screened. I think it cost a couple hundred dollars. I guess in the end I was glad I did it because it was just more information. Yay for starting on the 15th!!

@kiwi2628  Sounds like things are really moving along! That's great! P.S. Thanks again to you and the other ladies for helping me be more positive. I don't know why I was all negative before about my followup US. I'm excited to already be on day 8! It feels like things are moving so fast!

  • Just an update after my u/s yesterday. Still slow growing follicles. I asked dr if he thought I’d have enough growth to go through with ER. He said he is hopeful but not convinced. Hmmm. So I’m now on 400iu Follistim and 225 menopausal. And I started Ganirelix this morning. Next appt is Thursday and that is the day we decide if we will stop treatment for this cycle or move forward with ER. FX!
  • @hoping4lilbit that's definitely disappointing news, but hopefully the bump in meds kicks them into gear. i feel like i've seen a few ladies say their follicles were slow to start but picked up towards the end.

BTW, i added a new column near the start of the spreadsheet to denote when a bumpie's next appointment is.  helps me to keep track of who's up for an update... looks like we'll have a windfall of updates tomorrow! :D

@J1006 Sorry for the slow start. I am hoping they pick up. Its a good thing the estrogen is increasing though, that's a good sign of eggs maturing inside the follicles.

@tosh24 omg I somehow missed about your frosties! Congrats!

@efavell02 of course! Its hard not to compare to other people, or get scared about this process (trust me, with my canceled cycle I get being a pessimist!), but overall I am hopeful you will do well and have some good quality eggs. Its all about quality- in the November group I was part of, one girl had 26 follicles, none of the eggs made it past day 2. Another girl 'only' had like 7 or 8 follies, and got like 5 blasts, so remember, quality over quantity.

@hoping4lilbit I am so sorry about the possible canceled cycle. I went through that and it is devastating. I am hoping so hard that your follicles start to plump up

AFM- my estrogen is 990!!! During my last cycle on day 11 of stims my estrogen had just gotten to 1053, so I am SO HAPPY for my estrogen to be rising!
  • Hello ladies! Looking forward to getting to know everyone and sharing one another's experiences! My H is 41 and I'm 38 and this will be our first time doing IVF! We start our stim meds this Friday and we are set for our 1st ER around Jan 24th! Anyone else of AMA? On the fence about placing 1 or 2 embryos. Our clinic recommends singletons however, will let the decision be ours ultimately. I'm almost 100% certain we will do just one at a time however, the thought is swarming in the back of my mind.....not knowing how many shots we're going to have at bringing a baby in to this world. Anyone experiencing the same, difficult decision?
  • Welcome @pnwcoffeeminer ! Sorry you find yourself needing IVF, but the January group is amazing. As for one or two, I guess that depends on a few things- does your RE do 3 or 5 day transfers? Will you be doing a fresh or frozen transfer? What drug protocol are you using? Are you doing PGS/CCS testing?

@pnwcoffeeminer Welcome to the Jan club! My ER should possibly be right behind yours! :) If everything we do goes well and we have enough frozen, we are going to transfer 2. My DH turns 40 next month and I'll be 38 next month, so right along with you on that. Doing PGS, so we'll be waiting a cycle to transfer.

  • @kiwi2628 Hiya and thank you for the warm welcome! I believe a 5 day and we will be doing a frozen transfer after 2 ER. They are starting me with Follistum 450 and 20 minihcg for the stims. And yes, we will be doing CS testing! Does it look like they are starting me at the highest? I haven't really dug into comparing meds or dosages with anyone.

@kristimh80 You just gave me the biggest smile knowing I'll have a close ER buddy and an AMA one to boot (although I must admit I hate that term lol)!! Are you doing 1 or 2 ER?

  • @pnwcoffeeminer Is your diagnosis unexplained? What is your AFC (antral follicle count)? What about your FSH and AMH? If you have a low AFC and AMH, then that may be why you're being started on such high stims. For comparison, I am unexplained IF and I have an AMH of 1.5 and an AFC of between 18-40 (over the last year). I started on 200 Puregon (similar to Follistim) and 75 Menopur. I'm 34. Have you done any IUI cycles with injects? If so, were you a slow/poor responder? I always responded (or over-responded) on low doses so my RE decided to start me off on a mid-low dose.

  • @kristimh80 Believe me...I'v never heard of such a thing until I jumped on the IVF forums lol. AMA = Advanced Maternal Age.

@tosh24 My AMH is 1.76 and because of some miscommunication with my coordinator, I started my BC on the first day of AF and not the following day like I was apparently supposed to.....so, my RE said to just skip labs and move forward with the plan. I do recall my RE stating that some labs from a couple years ago had about a 10 follicle count but we couldn't base anything on that because the labs are too old. We never did any IUI just going straight to IVF. I start stims on Friday....450 Follistim and 20 of minihcg. I feel like they are starting me high because of my age and not having current labs to base dosage on.
In terms of a diagnosis....I feel like we haven't received one other then age and my H having low sperm count a some motility issues...but they said his sperm isn't an issue for ICSI. Honestly, I feel lost in all of this, we got so anxious after our consultation and jumped right in. In a perfect world, I wish H and I had more time to do more research so we feel more at ease. However, considering I'm 38.5 I know I need to have these eggs retrieved STAT in order for use to have a chance at conceiving with our own egg/sperm.

  • hi @pnwcoffeeminer, welcome to the board! i'm another AMA'r at 36. i'm currently on stim day 8 and have another monitoring appt on Thursday.  I have PCOS so i think my doc initially thought to start me on a low-mid dose of Gonal F (225)... but after my baseline and lower than usual AFC (14 this time), he bumped up my two starting doses to 375. On day 7-10, I'm back down to 150. dunno what he'll suggest for transfer... i assume it will also be dependent on the number we get to day 5.

sometimes it seems like a crapshoot... and especially with my clinic... it seems like other ladies have had more monitoring appointments and get to learn their estradiol levels after their labs come back.

in any event, there are so many of us this month, I created this handy dandy Google Sheet to track everyone's monitoring appts and cycle milestones.  I added you to the list, so feel free to add more details and check out where everyone's at. I keep a link in my signature if you ever wanna navigate back to it.  i struggle with anxiety so having control over some things helps me... :)

  • Hello @northbeach3 and thank you! :) So, how are you feeling in the stims, anything you weren't expecting?
  • @northbeach3 my reply to you was much more lengthy then what I see in the post...maybe it's just my phone and that's why I can't see it?!? Ugh lol :s
  • @pnwcoffeeminer Hi, welcome! I’m AMA 40. We TTC for 8 years before it worked, we have done IVF 2 fresh & 2 Frozen times. Both fresh we used 3 Embryos & both Frozen we used 2. We have 1 daughter (we are so blessed!!!) my daughter started as a twin but the other didn’t grow correctly & stopped at 10 weeks. Previous to that I had a chemical  pregnancy from an IVF cycle of 3 Embryos.
My diagnosis is unexplained but 1 tube is blocked. The other tube has polyps on the outside which means probably inside too but they can’t see inside the tubes.
My new Dr. only wants to put 2 in but my husband is adamant we use 3 (if we get 3). I don’t mind just 2, but with my record I feel we have a better shot with 3. It all depends how many we luck into this time. It’s a hard tempting decision for me.
  • @pnwcoffeeminer oh i hate when that happens. i had written a long post the other day and it disappeared into the ether. :(

well, i'd generally been feeling like my side effects were relatively mild compared to what i've read. i have had mild bloating since day 1, but i feel like the bloating really kicked into high gear this evening. it's starting to hurt to pee, but not in a UTI burning kinda way, but more like my ovaries are pushing on my bladder and making it super uncomfortable to sit while peeing.

i also had my very first accupuncture appointment ever today. will see her one more time before ER and she hopes to do treatments soon before and after transfer. kinda taking a leap of faith on this one b/c i'm not entirely sure what it's supposed to do... but i also bought  a pack of brazil nuts and cut up some pineapple core... so i'm not above trying all of the things. ;)

@beachbunnyxo123 so exciting for your stim start date! what's your protocool again?
