UO...I am reading through all this love for Target in the random thread and just don't think it's great. Lol, there must be something wrong with me.
Confession...part of the reason I am really trying to stay fit is because shortly after birth it will be bikini season. I love the pool and if I don't feel confident I will not get in and don't want to miss out. So vain!
@DDRRT1982 I like Target fine, but I'm definitely not one of those who goes in for two things and comes out with a full cart of stuff. In fact, MH and I went there last week between my doctor appointments just to kill time, and we didn't buy a single thing.
Possible UO? I read Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Childbirth book, and I didn't love it. Actually sort of hated it a little...
@stlbuckeye132 I didn’t love it either. Mostly because I’m a fan of hospital births and it’s pretty judgy if you’re not planning on an animal assisted birth in the woods...
@DDRRT1982 I'm with you on staying fit. Wish I could exercise, but alas my cervix has other plans.
FFFC: I really wish ppl would stop giving me advice. I dunno if it's my hormones or what but this last week I have had to hold my tongue like non other when folks talk to me...this baby is making me mean.
@stlbuckeye132@heatherdubrow I already know I'm not gonna like the Ina May book so I'm not buying it. This entire getting pregnant/being pregnant situation has made me significantly less crunchy than I was before. Doesn't help that we found out early on we were in a situation that will likely require more intervention than average. Like I'm not even allowed to give birth in a regular L & D room so I can no longer imagine even thinking about the at home stuff, even though it was very attractive to me like 5 years ago before I was pregnant.
@cford08 There is a special place in hell for people who give unsolicited advice to pregnant women.
@chasingroygbiv Starbucks was good when it was the only game in town, but in the last 20 years there have been so much more and better coffee places that are local AND if you are going national I think Peets is higher quality than Starbucks.
We had quite a few "crunchy" moms on my last BMB, and there was a what makes you crunchy thread that I loathed. It's fine if you're crunchy and into that sort of thing, but don't act like certain things make you crunchy - i.e. baby wearing, breastfeeding, etc. I'm not crunchy, but I wore my baby because it was practical at times, and I breastfed because I had a supply and my baby was able to grow. But I also had an epidural, and eventually, I had to supplement with formula and had 0 guilt about it. One of the moms post birth commented that someone said her baby seems so happy, and her response was, "Why wouldn't he be? He's a breastfed, vegan baby that co-sleeps." Naw, girl. You just have a happy baby.
@vflux33 yeah don't waste your money haha I kept reading it, hoping it would get better because I had so many people recommend it to me... it didn't. It just seemed really biased, judgmental of anything other than a home birth with a midwife, and full of information that was relevant in the 70s/80s maybe but not today.
@missnc77 omg that's ridiculous. Obviously a formula-fed baby has never ever been happy! *eyeroll*
Crunchy has become a badge of honor vs doing what you have researched to be best for your family. I am definitely more natural minded and believe in prevention vs intervention, but I do not identify as being crunchy, nor do I need a label for making educated or informed decisions for my family.
UO: I don't actually mind the word crunchy when used as shorthand, but I think it's important to recognize the very different types of people who may identify this way and/or use the term to describe their attitude about something from time to time. For instance, I am simultaneously way more crunchy in some ways and also less crunchy than certain people (I mean, the same people). I'm crazy paranoid about chemicals, but I don't dress like a hippie or drink my coffee out of a mason jar. I drive a normal car that runs on gas, and my career path is very much not considered "crunchy". When people use their "crunchiness" to be judgmental about anyone else using something "unnatural" that's not cool. Sometimes I call myself that as a sort of self deprecating thing or as a joke. But I honestly don't think it should be a bad word either. Just so long as people aren't using it to diminish or belittle other people's choices.
@cford08 - The unwanted advice makes me so angry, too! You're not alone on that one, especially when you don't ask for it... or everyone seems to have an opinion on ANYTHING you have to say about YOUR pregnancy. That's why I've stopped sharing all around with people unless it's my close friends, who haven't pissed me off yet, and my husband. Even my mom and MIL I don't really share everything with anymore. My MIL likes to compare my pregnancy to my SIL's pregnancy (who is due one day before me) and that drives me insane!
@heatherdubrow I love hospital births too, and I can't understand why people don't want them! I love the feeling of all these people stepping in to take care of you and it feels safer to me. I also really love not cooking, cleaning, and having people get me water and snacks when I want them
I had a goal to stay on top of my fitness this entire pregnancy and I've been slacking big time the past 2 months and I feel guilty about it. I wanted to be stronger for delivery because last time my pelvic floor hurt so bad after pushing for 3 hrs. Not to say that couod or couldn't happen again but it was a mindset thing for me. I've been carrying so low this whole time it's painful sometimes so working out has been pushed off.
@mdfarmchick, your sister is a TW. I have eaten exactly the same with both my pregnancies (with the exception of being addicted to grapefruit this pregnancy).
I gained 50lbs with my first pregnancy by 38 weeks when I delivered, and have only gained 2lbs this pregnancy at almost 32weeks. Nothing has changed except I sit more often now.
Different pregnancies require different things. My DD only weighed 7lbs at birth and my doctor was happy with my weight gain. This baby is growing exactly as it should and my doctor is happy with my weight gain.
@stlbuckeye132, I didn't love the book either, especially the birth stories. I lothed the ones that talked about orgasmic births.
Like @vflux33, I'm crunchier than some in some ways (I did have a med free birth center birth and if all goes well, I'll have a second), but much less so in other ways (I drive an SUV). Overall, I just do what I feel is best for me and my family.
My FFFC, I've been so lazy this pregnancy. I'm finding any excuse I can not to work out. I'm not proud of it, but I haven't made any changes. I did yoga and walked almost daily my first pregnancy and I truly believe it helped me during labor and postpartum. I work at home and could use my lunch break for a quick workout easily, but I use it for naps instead.
Re: UO/FFFC
