Re: High Risk Check In 1/2

  • I'll just go ahead and respond to my own post for now.... :D

    How far along are you?
    14 weeks today

    Why are you considered high-risk?
    Type 1 Diabetic

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Nope. US last week. I need to email my numbers to my Endo and schedule the next US with the MFM but no other appts for a few weeks.

    Any questions/concerns/news currently?
Are there really no other T1s on this BMB?  :/

What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today/this week?
Nausea is slowing some which also means eating is picking up. Since my pregnancies are so close together, I didn't loose all the weight from my last pregnancy. I'm not looking forward to gaining...I already feel huge  :'(

GTKY: Where would your dream vacation be and why?
We have so much snow and cold here right now I'm just dreaming of a warm beach!! St Thomas or St John's would be magical. But really, I would love to visit Iceland. That place really does look like it's a fairytale land.

How far along are you? 11 weeks 2 days

Why are you considered high-risk? still being monitored for my SCH, AMA... I am out of the woods though for the early loss concerns I think.

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? RE appointment this wednesday. US and bloodwork

    Any questions/concerns/news currently?
I developed an infection from the pio shots and they had to cut out the dead tissue and remaining infection out of my leg. So now instead of doing pio shots, i get to do wound care :/

What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today/this week?
baby is still looking good, and no more pio!

GTKY: Where would your dream vacation be and why?
i would loooove to go on another cruise. I used to go yearly, but haven't gone in over 4 years! ETA, my bucket list vacation though would be to go see the northern lights
  • @Crystal321 That's crazy about the infection! Is it finally starting to heal since they removed the infected tissue?
  • How far along are you?
    14 w 1 d

    Why are you considered high-risk?
    AMA, Previous Loss

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Nope- just waiting for my NIPT results... since 12/14...

    Any questions/concerns/news currently?
None at this time.  I am wary to share publicly until I get the NIPT results.  Also waiting on the early GD results, since I had to test last week.  I did not have GD with the others, but because of my age and big babies, they want to monitor closely.

What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today/this week?
I don't wake up with a bump, but it definitely makes it's way within an hour or two of getting my butt in gear.  Makes for some interesting wardrobe adjustments.

GTKY: Where would your dream vacation be and why?
I would really like to go to Bora Bora or Tahiti.  Somewhere where I get a hut, a butler, and can waste the day away drinking cocktails, getting a tan, and relaxing.  I'll never, ever be able to afford this though!

  • @TalesOfASocialIntrovert for some reason the infection had killed a lot of the fat cells in that area and caused necrosis, so that was the main reason they opted to cut it out, before it turned into staph or MRSA (mrsa cannot safely be treated while pregnant).

Everything seems to be healing okay, but it was a 1x 1 inch wound so I have months of healing ahead of me, and a nasty scar to look forward to
  • I'm high risk because of my age, 41 ! I'm a bit shocked still. I tried for a long time. Finally gave up and treated myself to the tummy tuck I always wanted! ...and became pregnant immediately after
  • How how far along are you?
    11 weeks 3 days

Why are you considered high risk?
PCOS, two losses, pulmonary emobolisms ( blood clot is lungs) on blood thinners the remainder of the pregnancy plus 6 weeks postpartum

    Any questions/concerns/news currently
Waiting on specialist appointment. No questions or concerns

What positives are you seeing this week with your pregnancy?
Hubbys on days off so I am taking advantage of afternoon napping. Come on second trimester.

What would your dream vacation be and why?
Take a summer vacation to travel through Europe. Try different foods, see different culture and love old architecture.

  • @dluv0676 of course you did!  LOL but congrats to you <3  Do you have to do anything special/different because of the tummy tuck?  Will this negatively affect it?

  • @Crystal321 What are your SCH experiences? I just found out yesterday I have a 8cm SCH. Causing intermittent heavy bleeding. I was told it could cause loss, but will most likely go away. That's not really all that comforting! I'm 13w1d with mo-di twins.
  • How far along are you? 12w3d

Why are you considered high-risk? lots of fibroids, now apparently also a septum in my uterus or as I like to call it janky uterus with too many spare parts, I'm also 34 so almost AMA

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? Just the NT scan, my scan will be longer to assess the other issues and come up with a plan

    Any questions/concerns/news currently?
I try not to stress as I had an easy pregnancy last time and I stay away from google but I get so nervous before appointments and will likely be on the verge of a heart attack before the NT scan.

What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today/this week?
To start, I'm pregnant and baby looked great at the US last week.

GTKY: Where would your dream vacation be and why?
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with hubby, followed by a safari, Ngorongoro then finishing off on the beach in Zanzibar. it's a trip hubby and I were planning on taking before we found out we were expecting baby #1 so it's been pushed back in a few years.

    Why are you considered high-risk?
    Previous Loss, GD, Twins

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Probably not this week. Had my NT scan this past weekend and the GD test and just barely failed. They tested early due to having GD last time and being overweight with twins. My endo is out of town so just trying to start following the diet again but waiting to know if I need to come in and see her or do more testing.

    Any questions/concerns/news currently?
Anyone else really struggling emotionally? I’ve been a wreck lately and the GD diagnosis kicked it up a notch. DS was born full term but with collapsed lungs due to GD and it terrifies me that it started so early and might affect the twins. Trying to be positive and remind myself I got so healthy last time and came out weighing less after DS was born... I can do this.

What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today/this week?
I still have two healthy babies and a slowly growing bump. I can sometimes feel them move since it’s my second pregnancy <3

GTKY: Where would your dream vacation be and why?
Ireland and Italy, or one of those beautiful tropical islands with the tiki huts over the water. That dream is at least 10 years away now  :D

  • How far along are you? 14 weeks 2 days

Why are you considered high-risk? Diabetic and hypothyroid

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
I have an appointment in 2 hours to get a retest on my blood and see if my A1C has come down at all since November. Fingers crossed.

    Any questions/concerns/news currently?
Well the past few days I’ve had a pretty bad stomach bug and it’s dredged up my fears of losing the baby again. Worried that some damage has been done but don’t know how likely it is.

What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today/this week?
Well, as far as I know I’ve made it to second tri and that is HUGE.

GTKY: Where would your dream vacation be and why?
My dream vacation would be to New Zealand with my mom and sister. It looks absolutely beautiful and would love to spend some time there with my family.
  • How far along are you? 13w1d

Why are you considered high-risk? Mo-Di Twins, SCH, Placenta Previa

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? I had an appt for u/s yesterday. Monitoring growth of SCH. Another appt on Tuesday next week.

    Any questions/concerns/news currently?

What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today/this week?
Babies are rockstars in there! Jumping and bouncing like crazy every time we have an u/s. I love them already!

GTKY: Where would your dream vacation be and why?
Maine -- I've always wanted to stay in a seaside cottage for a week.
  • @bradybunchmom89 I was put on strict bedrest for 3 weeks until it started to dissolve (only get out of bed for bathroom). Basically it will either dissolve, or pass as a clot. The problem with it passing is if it is large, it may have enough force to push baby loose and cause a MC. The MC is more likely if the sch is located behind the baby. Luckily mine was next to the birth canal so I wasn't at a huge risk of MC if it did pass, but mine ended up starting to dissolve while on bedrest.

I still am on restriction about lifting, I cannot lift anything over 10 lbs. The SCH did not start dissolving though until the 2nd week of bedrest. At one point it was larger than the gestational sac.

Please be careful and rest! Do a lot of laying down if you can!
  • Has anyone with diabetes experienced lower blood sugar in the second trimester. I had food poisoning for a few days and have only noticed it since then, so it could be that, but of course I googled it and found one random post about poor placental health. I might call my doctor tomorrow but just wondering if anyone has experienced this at all?
  • How far along are you?
    12 w today!
    Why are you considered high-risk?
    Twins Mono do we think
Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
    No
    Any questions/concerns/news currently?
Hoping to learn about the number of placentas on Monday hoping two!

What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today/this week?
    First tri is almost over!

GTKY: Where would your dream vacation be and why?
there is a pink sand beach I’d like to see, I love the ocean
  • @crabcake18 Good luck at your appointment on Monday! I just found out today I am having Momo Twins. It is very scary, but just praying to God that everything will turn out fine. I am 13 weeks 5 days.
  • How far along are you?
    I am currently 13 w 5d

    Why are you considered high-risk?
    i am having mo/mo twins

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Nothing this week but starting in 3 weeks I will be going in weekly for an ultrasound.

    Any questions/concerns/news currently?
Some potential good news is that the umbilical cords are close together so one twin shouldn’t be able to steal nutrients from the other.

What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today/this week?
I have been having a pretty easy pregnancy. No morning sickness. I just got my energy back too. Feeling good physically!

GTKY: Where would your dream vacation be and why?
Everywhere and anywhere. Haha. I would like to go to Ireland or somewhere tropical that is not over commercialized and crowded.
  • How far along are you? 13 + 4

Why are you considered high-risk? Previous history of HTN and AMA

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? CRAP - this thread just reminded me that I'm supposed to go pick up a 24 hour urine test from the lab to complete and take back up there before my next appointment.  Sigh.  NOT my favorite thing to do.

    Any questions/concerns/news currently?
If my BP creeps up, my doc wants me to take a daily baby aspirin. And I don't want to.  I've already told her this, so I'm just supposed to check it daily for now. If it happens they're also going to induce 2 weeks early (we didn't induce my last until 1 week late).  Sigh.

What positives are you seeing with your pregnancy today/this week?
I haven't decided if this is a positive or not, but I'm starting to look pregnant!  LOL

GTKY: Where would your dream vacation be and why?
I really want to go to France. Ideally I would like to go with my grandma (who was born and raised there) and my mom.  But that's never going to happen because my grandma renounced her citizenship (she's a US citizen now) and feels that they would arrest her if she tries to go back in the country.

    The Bump ate my post....

    But @Crystal321 --

What I was saying is thank you for your thoughts! I feel very alone in this. I've never been through anything like this and it's my 4th pregnancy. I am on pelvic rest and taking it easy as much as possible with 3 children and a full time job! :) It's a desk job, though, so that helps. I am going to ask a lot more questions on Tuesday -- we have another ultrasound. My dr is very concerned and that was enough to make me break down!

I would be surprised if placental issues where to blame this early in pregnancy. I would suspect the food poisoning and possible weight loss are to blame? I saw fluctuations in the first trimester in both pregnancies but gradual increased for my first at probably 14 or 15 weeks. It never hurts to consult your Endo or MFM though :)
  • @bradybunchmom89 yeah I have a toddler and had to have my mom come watch her until I got the all clear to get out of bed. I'm super lucky she was able to help us
  • Thank you for replying!
I am going to call when the diabetes educator gets in at 9. She’s only there twice a week, so I have been waiting to call. I’m starting to wonder if it’s something else entirely because I have now not been sick for a couple of days and still experiencing lows to the point of not needing insulin at all even with high carb meals. The doc had started me on metformin, to compliment my insulin, before bed about 3 weeks ago and I’m hoping it’s just that! @TalesOfASocialIntrovert
  • @hayhay93 I'm not super familiar with Metformin but I could definitely see that contributing to lows! It would also probably be worth asking if some people experience nausea (or whatever your symptoms are) when taking it. Maybe they could adjust your dose? Are you taking it with food? That might make a difference as well with side effects. I hope they have some answers for you!
  • Thank you :) I might ask her if it’s possible that my “food poisoning” was actually a late reaction to the medication. I generally eat a bedtime snack with it. I didn’t take it last night, just to see if my numbers normalize at all today. @TalesOfASocialIntrovert
  • Well, I didn’t take it last night and still woke up with a “normal” blood sugar, before I would have needed 70 units before bed and metformin just to wake up with a high reading. :/ Feeling like something is wrong here, thank you for your help and insight though. @TalesOfASocialIntrovert
