I am so upset! My clinic overlooked something huge!
This afternoon I called the company running the genetic testing on the embryo biopsies sent from my clinic. I wasn't given any information on the testing facility, however I like reading up on anything and everything regarding this process so I requested to know the name of the company and their contact information. They gave me the company's brochure.
I received a phone call on Tuesday from the nurse at my clinic informing me that 4 embryos in total were biopsied and those cells were shipped to the testing facility (out of state) that day.
I asked the nurse two questions. 1, does the clock start at this time for the two weeks we need to wait for the results? The answer was yes. 2, do I need to reach out to the testing facility for anything? The answer was "No, they will be calling you to collect payment for the testing fee"
I decided to reach out to the testing company since it had been two days and I had not heard from them to collect payment. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss their call and delay the testing process.
Come to find out, the lab must conduct a 30 minute phone call and have me sign a consent form after this call is complete BEFORE they will begin testing! I was not told any of this at by clinic. I let the testing facility know I signed consent forms at my clinic, but they said that is a separate form they need for themselves, and that unfortunately I am not the first patient that has encountered a problem with their clinic not notifying them of this step a head of time.
Since they are busy, the testing facility informed me that the earliest they can get me an appointment for this call is in TWO WEEKS!
I was thinking by New Years Eve that we would have an answer, and now I learned that because my clinic recently changed to using this testing facility that I will not have an answer now for another month!
Let this be a lesson to stay on top of every single step in this process and never assume everyone is going to do their job right.
I have been with my heart in my throat waiting for these two weeks to pass not knowing that those cells haven't even begun the testing process. I couldn't reach my clinic after my phone call with the testing facility, but I will be reaching out to them first thing in the morning!
