I have been on celexa for quite a while and DH and I are considering TTC #3. Has anyone taken celexa while pregnant? I could taper off but I feel so much better taking it. Thoughts?

Qfp. This board is trying to get pregnant... As in none of us are pregnant... No one on this board can answer your question (unless they've been KU before). I'd suggest asking one of the trimester boards. Andplusalso talk to your doctor.

I have not been on SSRI while pregnant. I began treating my GAD with an SSRI (Paxil) after DS. I know Paxil is a pregnancy D, so when we decided to TTGP I tried to go off of it. That didn’t go well so I switched to Zoloft which is a C. There are still risks with a C, but I switched to Zoloft because after talking with my doctor I decided that was the best choice for me. To my knowledge there are not any A class anxiety meds and the only B class meds is Wellbutrin. As previously stated, you should talk to your doctor and make an informed decision. I recommend talking to your OB or a psychiatrist.
I've never been pregnant, so I don't know. I would definitely recommend talking to your doctor because a forum of internet strangers should not be making this decision for you. It is up to you and your doctor on what is best for you and if the benefits outweigh the potential for birth defects.

I was on Celexa for both pregnancies. I went down to 20 mg for the first one and stayed at 40 mg for my second. I don’t know if that is why but my second had trouble breathing when he came out and was slow to “wake up” FWIW. I did have doctor’s blessing each time. Hope that helps, OP.

@little_bren my doc told me that was a common complication of Meds.
Yep, it can be. You just have to weigh the risks. This time around, once I get pregnant again I plan to lower the dosage like I did with DC#1. It was honestly terrifying to have that happen with my second birth and I feel awful that I was likely the cause.
ETA: by “risks” I meant pros and cons of going off medication and taking medication while pregnant as should be evaluated with your medical professional. (Covering my toosh from being flamed ha)

@little_bren Absolutely! It was such a hard choice to stay on meds while TTC (I will also try to lower my dose if I get pregnant), but ultimately I won’t function med free.
