Infertility

I made my choice. Now I wait...

I posted a question a couple of weeks ago asking for opinions on if I should do IUI through my OB or gob to ac fertility clinic. Today I cancelled my appointment with my OB for the 9th. I decided to go with an infertility clinic. The thought of basing all of this on my crazy natural cycles and the chance that she might be in the office or might not was just too much stress and anxiety.

I have an appointment with the physician assistant at the new clinic on January 22nd and then I have to have some testing like ultrasounds to make sure I have no polyps and stuff. Then after the clinic gets those results, I have an appointment with the actual doctor and they decide on a plan. Instead of me tracking my own ovulation with an over the counter OPK, they will track it with ultrasounds and bloodwork to make sure everything is accurate.

This clinic is about an hour away and I will go down to their main clinic (about 1 1/2 hours away) for the actual IUI. It's going to be more expensive, more driving,  more testing, more appointments, and will take longer to get started, but I feel it will improve my chances greatly and will give me more confidence and peace of mind.  And being taken care of by someone who has more knowledge, education,  and experience could be invaluable.

My doctor is a great OB/GYN but at the end of the day she's an OB, not a fertility expert. Thank you to those of you that gave me your thoughts and opinions.  I'm excited but nervous about my decision. over the next couple of months I'm just going to focus on getting my body as healthy as possible for a baby.

  • @aaej4 You definitely made the right choice. Wishing you the best of luck with your IUI! My RE is an hour away as well (I switched from an RE that was 10 minutes away) but it was a better fit for me, and in the end, it'll all be worth it.

  • Hi- you made the right decision.

When I was trying to conceive, I used to go to OBGYN, but later on, she advised me to consult with fertility doctor. I had expensive treatments but thankfully I became pregnant. I will look forward to your post, I pray that you will have your heart’s desire to have a child. Update us please, thank you for sharing.

  • Thank you!
