Pregnant after 35

40 Next Month and Expecting!

Hi everyone.  We just found out we are expecting completely unplanned.  It might still be a little premature at 5 1/2 weeks to get too excited, considering I've had 3 previous miscarriages and never actually given birth to a child before.  Somehow I still find myself hopeful!  We really gave up on this 2 years ago after failed fertility treatments and 7 surgeries to remove a ton of fibroids.  The female problems go on and on for me.  In fact my hubby and I have been fostering 2 little girls for the past year and a half with the hopes of adopting them soon.  So, I know there is a lot of risk for me and I have a couple more doctor appointments in the next week to see if things are going ok.  So far my numbers are looking great, I'm feeling quite a few symptoms, and hoping for a miracle!!  I'm very nervous about what a pregnancy might look like for me taking into account my history and age.

Re: 40 Next Month and Expecting!

  • Congrats! I wish you the best of luck.  It's really nice to see someone else about to turn 40 here.  I have two children but have had several losses as well.  When can you get an ultrasound?

  • Yay! We just got an ultrasound too, Thursday.  6w4d hb 155.

We are both in a much lower risk category now!

I had also kind of given up, I figured 40 was the end.  I'm really glad it isn't.
  • Congrats on a positive first u/s - rainbow babies are so exciting  :)

  • Hello!  It’s quiet over here.  Just wanted to pop in and add that I I turned 40 last month and just got here (2nd beta was yesterday).  I was anxious even before *TW* loss (at not quite 12 weeks), but one step at a time...

  • Hi @artemis618 congrats on your positive!  I’m waiting for my 2nd ultrasound next week.  I’m extremely nervous, as I’ve never made it this far along.  I don’t have any real reasons to think anything bad should happen, no weird symptoms or anything.  I just can’t seem to convince myself that I’m still pregnant though.  My symptoms come and go too, so I’ll go a couple days and feel nothing and then suddenly they come back.  I’ll report back after next week.  Hopefully all is good!
  • It's so great to find some similar families. I had my dating ultrasound early at 6w4d but now I'm in limbo waiting for an appointment because we moved and I didn't have someone lined up yet.  It's nerve wracking.
  • I'm 39 will be 40 in January me and my hubby are actually trying to get pregnant with a girl..but we are waiting on the preconception appointment and waiting tell after the holidays me n hubby will be together 20 years in February And we have 3 other kids 2 boys 1 girl our oldest is moved out he going on 19 and our daughter is 17 and son just turned 6 we been wanting to have another girl for some time now and even our daughter and son wants a baby sister..any suggestions with out having to see a specialist can't afford a fertility doctor...
  • ^^ your OB will be able to run some basic tests and give you some ideas whether you need a specialist. They could even prescribe clomid. (Which is supposed be monitored, though, which OB's don't seem as likely to do as specialists).

To check in, I'm 32 weeks and officially panicking. Don't feel ready for delivery, for a newborn, any of it. But at the same time I'm getting huge and uncomfortable and ready to be done.

Because I'm 40, I had an ultrasound at 30 weeks and the tech took a few 3D shots. It was awesome and so crazy, he actually looked like a fully formed baby!

  • mindaa,  you never freely ready.  There's never a *convenient* time, lol
  • Good luck @mindaa with the rest of your pregnancy!  You are so close to the end.  We had our 2nd ultrasound last week and I’m now almost 12 weeks.  I can’t believe baby is growing!  I guess we are not too old for this lol.

Hi! I’m 41 and will be 42 at delivery. After years of infertility, I discovered I was 8 weeks pregnant on Nov 30. What a shock! Our son is 6 and we had made peace with our one child.

I wish you a healthy pregnancy!!
