I'm back to work this week, it was a real struggle to get out of bed this morning. This week should be pretty slow though not a lot of people are going to be here this week. SO looking forward to the slow week because I am on the struggle bus.
Couple of randoms on my end.. I ate so much food yesterday it was difficult sleeping last night. I physically felt like food was backed up in my throat worst feeling ever.
I also found out yesterday that my BIL set a date for his wedding which will be next December 30th! I’m so relieved they aren’t getting married this summer which was my initial impression. So I should have at least 5 vacation days to use in addition to the time off I already get around the holidays to travel to Europe for Christmas and the wedding. Hopefully we can squeeze a stop in somewhere else as well because I would love to go to Ireland or Scotland.
I’m going back to work tomorrow. Trying to savor my last day off, but it hasn’t been a great break because DS has been so sick. We ended up at the ER last night when his fever went above 105. Poor little guy
@JJMNO1616 a Christmas wedding in Europe sounds sooo amazing. If you’re bringing LO he/she will be at a relatively easy age to travel with, too! I’m jealous!
Back to work for me too . I'm pretty tired this morning. Last week was garbage...so busy, and I was dreading this week because one person is off this week and another is off for who knows how long on some worker's comp thing. So far so good...for today, at least.
I'll have another 3 day weekend this coming weekend which is nice. New Year's Eve is our 7th wedding anniversary. Too bad I can't have me a drink or 4! Lol.
@beach_mama no, just checked him out and sent him home. He tested positive for RSV which when I google says a “mild cold-like virus.” Fever that high doesn’t seem mild to me!! Oh well, better to be safe.
I am like a lot of you today back at work but I am hoping it's busy so it goes by faster and i can go home. my husband got to feel the baby move for the first time last night. it was so amazing.
@Puddlewonderful ugh, RSV is so nasty! For two of my kids, after the brutal virus itself they got secondary bacterial infections (one bronchitis, one pneumonia) that had to be treated with antibiotics. I hope your son heals quickly and doesn’t have any further problems!
@kmalls we have so many new toys in our house, I’m just like... play with them or I am going to return them. If they can’t occupy you for a single freaking day then I want my money back.

I’m sans kiddos for the week :’( they stayed with my in laws and I’m back to work. Second tri morning sickness seems to be a thing for me so I going to take advantage of the time to rest, but damn I miss my kids!!
I am off through tomorrow, but will be spending my Wednesday driving 12 hrs Home. Today I am out shopping with my aunt, cousin and sister. Husbands are at home with the kids. Enjoying the last bit of vacation until I work until baby arrives.
I’m luckily working from home today, but back to the office tomorrow. Hoping for a relatively quiet week at work.
I’ve got a random question... thoughts on getting a robe for the hospital? FTM getting sucked in by the pretty labor/delivery robes out there but not sure if it’s worth it. I think my biggest hesitation is that I’m going to freeze my butt off in the hospital and will want pants and fuzzy socks instead but honestly have no clue. This would be for the recovery day/days rather than actually birthing in it. Here’s the one I’m considering, with the sleep dress underneath as well:
@frenchiekinplusone do it! The hospital I deliver at has robes available if you ask for one, but I was glad I brought my own last time. I didn’t buy a fancy robe designed for labor, but it was pretty and it felt nicer than a scratchy hospital robe. You’ll appreciate it if you do a lot of walking during contractions — nothing worse than your behind on view when wearing those stupid tie-back johnnies!
ETA: I only wore the robe during labor. Post-birth I only wore capri leggings with tank tops and a zip-up sweater if I needed extra coverage. All that to say: maybe don’t spend a fortune on the robe!
@kmalls thanks!!! The robe is under $40 so it’s not crazy expensive. Great points - I didn’t think about the time walking around during labor before I’m ready for the epidural.
@frenchiekinplusone yeah I wouldn’t want to wear anything new and nice during labor itself, because well it’s just kind of a messy process. After labor, you’ll probably want to wear clothes that you would be comfortable wearing if you need to walk down the hall or want to walk to the cafeteria, etc. Like @kmalls said, I was most comfortable in yoga pants, a big t shirt and a large sweater or something over it.
If I were going to invest in new stuff to wear, it would be really comfy lounge clothes to wear post-birth. And just make sure anything you buy is on the large side. I’m sure you have heard this already but you will look approximately as pregnant as you look right now for probably at least the first week after giving birth, so just plan for it.

So as much as I love Christmas, I can’t wait to get rid of this f’ing Christmas tree. It takes up so much room and it’s dropping needles everywhere and I’m so over it. Plus DS keeps stealing things he shouldn’t have (like my phone) and hiding under the tree where I can’t get to him and it’s driving me nuts
Back to the office for me today as well. DH and I both swear that we are taking off the week after Christmas next year! I'm anxious to get back to the house and start finding places for all the gifts we received.... *First World Problems rant incoming*.... My MIL is the sweetest. She goes out of her way to make sure everyone around her is happy. She's also extremely generous. The only drawback to her generosity is that at Christmas, she believes in quantity over quality. Every single year, she gifts myself, DH, and DD copious amounts of toiletries. Toothpaste, cotton balls, Q-Tips, deodorant, nail polish remover, body wash, shampoo, chapstick, TAMPONS! It is overwhelming to the point where we just throw everything in a box and devote an entire day to cleaning out our supplies closet and replacing old stuff with the new stuff. Bless her heart, but I really, really don't need to unwrap a years worth of tampons while I'm pregnant.
@riversdoctor I'm sorry to hear you still have morning sickness!
I'm back in the office today. I normally get the days between Christmas and New Year's off, but I'm using those days off for our trip to visit my mom next week. I still get Friday off though for the company wide holiday, I can't really complain about a 3 day workweek. Our big goals for the week are to put all the Christmas stuff away, make a trip to our recycling center to get rid off all the Christmas waste (our recycling bin only gets picked up every other week), and finish Christmas shopping for my mom. Also, I seem to have caught DH's cold from last week, ugh.
@klburke88 I feel your pain! My in-laws have an extremely weird obsession with 'quantity' when it comes to presents. It stresses me out every year, because they all collectively get pissy like a bunch of ungrateful 2 year olds if they don't each get more than one present from a person. They sum up the prices of everything too to bitch about later how we don't spend enough on them. It's so antithetical to how I was raised. I get really embarrassed every Xmas when they make me unwrap like 10 to 15 presents. If they have to wrap post it notes, they will. I'm a 35 year old adult woman, I don't need that many presents.
DH took this entire week off to spend at home with us. I decided it was the perfect time to begin potty training for DS. Today was day 1 and so far so good. He's peed twice on the potty and no accidents yet! (no bottoms on at all, so so much playing with the penis).
Oh my gosh, @sapphires-and-diamonds, I have wondered about the diaper-free situation! Every time DS (18 months) is without one he plays with his penis nonstop. I’m glad to hear everything is going well. A good day one is huge progress!

I called my husband at work hysterically laughing/crying when ds was potty training. All I could say was, “evidently “no penises on the table” is something I say now!” Ds would run around naked and then stand in his chair instead of sit and it would rest on the table! Silly boy! #thingsineverexpectedtosay
I'm a nurse so I worked over Christmas. After this night shift I'm driving 8 hours up north to my in-laws for the next few days. I'm hoping I can sleep in the car to the halfway mark so that I can drive afterwards as DH needs to be on his phone responding to work emails...not ideal but no one would switch shifts with me!

Back at work today but no one else seems to be here!
@frenchiekinplusone I'm on the robe train! I got a robe and didn't wear it for delivery, but wore it the whole hospital stay. It was easier than actual clothes and I felt kind of human.

Scotland is amazing I highly recommend!! We went last year around Christmas it was beautiful
I am at work and falling asleep. Counting down the minutes until it's socially acceptable to eat my lunch.
just had a minor freak out about taking classes to prepare for this baby and how the hospital we are delivering in is 45 minutes away and all of the classes I want are on weeknights and run late. We will figure it out but gosh I am working myself up. Mostly just feeling overwhelmed that we haven't bought anything or done anything.
@ngolimento wow as adults that seems so silly! I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I think if I ever had an issue with my in-laws acting like that DH better say something or we wouldn't accept or give gifts.
Phew what a long week! I failed my glucose test so now I have to take the 3 hour test this Saturday morning. Oh and apparently my iron is low so my body is really fighting against me. We are on the potty training train too! DD is doing great but the 5:30am "I have to pee pee" and then deciding to be up for the day even when we keep the lights off is tiring. I'm trying to get over my second cold in a month but I think my body is just too tired to fight. I could use a nap-a-thon. I'm also team lets take the tree out now because I would like my living room back please.
@fernde we haven't done anything either, try not to feel too bad! We are just trying to make it through the holidays before we start working on our registry and the nursery. It's too difficult working on anything while the house is a mess and people are visiting every other day.
Holy hell, I really hate insurance companies. When I was pregnant last year, I was told genetic testing wasn’t covered because I was under 35. We are on the same exact plan this year, so I went ahead with genetic testing since I’m now 35 (and will be 36 at delivery). The claim has now been denied three times. Apparently even though our plan didn’t change, coverage in a few specific areas DID change. Like genetic testing. So dumb of me not to have double checked this pregnancy, but it never even crossed my mind that genetic testing for AMA patients wouldn’t be covered.
So. Natera (the company that does Panorama testing) billed insurance $8k. It was denied, so they billed me $775 out of pocket. I called back a few times and got the charges reduced to $449, then $200, then $160 if we paid today. This is why healthcare is such a fucking racket: insurance was billed $8k even though Natera will ultimately accept $160. So so so ridiculous and wrong.
@kmalls That's awful! I didn't think to check if genetic testing was covered either because I was told the same thing by my insurance company during my first pregnancy. Did they explain why they don't cover it anymore? I'm glad the testing company went down in price for you, but it seems ridiculous that they're charging insurance companies $8K!. I'll have to double check my billing statement, but I'm pretty sure I remember it said they billed around $1K to my insurance company. I had the MaterniT21 test. I still have to pay $70 out of pocket even with insurance coverage.
@irenejean no idea why it changed, all the benefits customer service person could do was read me what is covered by my plan, and it specifically stated that genetic testing is excluded under all circumstances. I’m truly baffled by this as MA is supposedly on the forefront of prenatal care, and this insurance company in particular advertises its coverage in this area. Apparently I just have an extra special plan
@kmalls - I’m glad you ‘only’ had to pay $160, but it is total BS that insurance is billed more than 40 times what the provider will accept. Wherever anyone stands on ACA, I would think most could agree that insurance and how providers bill insurance is sketchy at best, fraud at worst.

Edited for clarity.
I am with you on the insurance hiatus!!! We just had our insurance not pay for our last U/S because we haven’t met our deductible and during that visit the tech couldn’t measure his head and face because of his position so we have to go back. The charge is $250 from the last one and will be another $250 on this one we have to pay out of pocket. Deductibles are a scam especially when two healthy people never need to go to the doctors
Been MIA because my H and I went to Dallas with the inlaws. Just stopped by Waco on our way back to Houston to visit the Magnolia Market which was fun but the place was a zoo!
So to catch up on a few things...
This is probably a stupid question but what do you normally wear during the actual birth? Do most women just wear a hospital gown or can you bring your own atire?
@ngolimento@klburke88 Omg yes about the quality over quantity problems. My parents are like that too... they always give tons of toiletries and things that I would never ever use. I would much rather have a $10 gift card then open 10 little packages from the dollar store.
@kmalls I’m so sorry to hear your Insurance company changed things on you like that. I was completely shocked to learn that my insurance company actually covered the NIPT for me. I’m only 30 so I never even called to ask... just assumed the answer was no and prepaired to pay what the company charged for OOP. The completely insane thing is my Insurance got billed over 20K for the test and they actually paid out around $800. The genetic testing company was only going to charge me $100 if my insurance declined the charges.
@JJMNO1616 For the actual birth, I just wore the hospital gown, I didn't want to have to deal with cleaning up any messy clothes. My clothes were already pretty messy from my water breaking and gushing out the entire car ride to the hospital, I was glad that was the only mess I had to clean up.
@JJMNO1616 I'm pretty sure I just had the hospital gown on during the actual birth. Convenient because the back was open, making room for the epidural. I didn't do any walking around during labor since I progressed relatively quickly. I might opt to bring a fuzzy robe with me this time in case I do want to take a trip to the bathroom or down the hall or what not.
