GTKY: Christmas with the kiddos

Merry Christmas everyone!

For STM+: What are you looking forward to this Christmas with your kids? Is there a gift you got for them which you are particularly excited for them to open?

For FTM: What Christmas traditions are you looking forward to sharing with your LO when they are older? Is there anything you just couldn’t resist putting under the tree for baby this year?

Re: GTKY: Christmas with the kiddos

  • AFM, we bought our almost three YO DD a Disney princess bike and I think her mind will be blown. We are currently watching Toy Story and waiting for grandparents to come over at 7:30 so just trying to keep DD upstairs. We really try not to go overboard because her grandparents don’t quite follow that rule (but that’s their job I guess!).

Couldn’t resist a couple things for baby boy too and I know my mom has a bag of stuff for him!

And for the important stuff- Dinner tonight is filet mingon, crab legs, twice baked potatoes, roasted broccoli, corn casserole and carrot cake for dessert. I’ll be missing my cranberry Moscow mule that is my Christmas drink of choice, but a few sips of wine are likely, especially after my FIL makes an unsolicited belly comment.

  • This year is the first year my son (age 5) has a little Christmas tree in his room. We snuck a little train under it last night with two little stocking present so that did not fit in his stocking for him to find when he wakes up. I am just laying here, waiting for him to wake up now... I might need to go in and wake him up because I can’t wait much longer. He is normally up at 5:30 each morning and it is almost 7!
  • We opened gifts on Yule, the 21st, as the big kids left on the 23rd to visit family out of state. Dd3 opened a few gifts this morning. We all have a cold and she was congested most of the night and was up at 5:00 am, so we got up and figured it was time. She got a My Size Potty, Pony Up Daddy Saddle and Star Wars figurines. They're all big hits. I was most excited about her opening the guitar and table top easel. Surprisingly, the Paw Patrol chapstick and Charlie Brown/Snoopy fannypack were huge hits.

Dd1 - Gel nail set with holographic polish and accessories, graphite art supplies and books.
Dd2 - Chewbacca sweater, books and nerdy/geeky clothes and accessories. She and dd1 also got an Echo Dot
Ds2 - Kinect + games, Echo Dot, R2-D2 Bop It.

Growing up we often saw a movie at the theater on Christmas Day. We may do that later today. We have our go-to movies that we watch at home as well. These last couple years we visited my in-laws on CE/CD, but they're out of town, so we're just hanging out and relaxing.

  • 15 yo DD woke us up at 8 to prepare us for when her baby brother wakes up super early. She made him a special book that told the story of our family and had some advice from a big sister to a little brother. Yes I cried!

  • FTM: We didn't get anything for the baby ourselves, but my family did. :) We got some things off our our registry (such as a bathtub, muslin loveys, a baby book, etc), and some fun things like a soft blanket, and an adorable raccoon stuffie to go with the nursery theme.

We spend the day with both families (we go from our house to my family, to DH's family), and it will be fun (I think??) to do that with baby next year!  We haven't figured out what traditions we'll want to start, but it will be fun to think about that!
  • We had slow cooked honey, brown sugar and pineapple glazed ham, green beans with farm fresh bacon, acorn squash stewed with butter and brown sugar, au gratin potatoes, fruit salad and rolls. Heading to my dad's now for dessert.

  • The boys were really excited this year and it’s been fun to live through them.  Both boys got a ton of stuff and are still trying to plow through it all. We did gifts in the morning with MIL and then all went to my parents house where we had a second Christmas with my sis and her family then a large dinner. That has become the tradition for us.
