Any STM+ have an episiotomy? I did with my first and I'm just wondering if there is any correlation between having one then getting one with subsequent pregnancies or bad tearing. I obviously want to avoid it at all costs, I just want to know what to expect.
@maueraa07 I didn't personally, but one of my good friends just had her third baby last week. She said she did not need one with her first baby, she DID with her second (and it was BAD) and then, she didn't need one and didn't tear with her third baby last week
Anyone with younger LOs feel like they can sense baby coming soon? DS is 2 and doesn't fully understand he's going to have a little sister. He knows there's a baby in my belly and he will kiss and hug it but that's the extent of it. I try to tell him soon the baby will be here and no longer in my belly, knowing he doesn't fully understand but trying to prepare him as much as I can anyways, haha! Lately he has been so sweet and wanting me to hold him more often, he wants to hold my hand at random moments, and wants me to stay with him until he falls asleep, which he has never done before! He's never been a snuggly cuddly child! Not sure if it's related to baby coming soon or if anyone has noticed anything like this with their kids?
@leeeahyo DS is 2 as well, has no real clue that a baby is coming. He hugs my belly but thats it. He thinks it's a pillow. But he's also been super snuggly and hand holdy too. He's never like that.
@leeeahyo Aww that is so sweet. DD is a little over two and has been sweet to "baby brother" this whole time, but I have not noticed any change lately. That said, my dog the last three nights has been EXTRA loyal with me, which is especially noble as I've been loudly hacking and puking throughout the night. I don't know if that means this LO is coming especially soon, but I do think she senses that I'm in a particularly vulnerable spot. She literally sits right by me as I puke at 2 AM. It's really, really, really endearing.
@leeeahyo same here. DD is 18 months and always been very independent. The last few days she has been super affectionate with me. Running to hug me and wanting to sit on my lap. She also has been lifting up my shirt and petting my belly. I'm sure she has no clue but I think she definitely senses something is different or changing
@leeeahyo My DD is 3.5 (so not a super young child) and definitely knows that little sister is in my belly and will be coming soon. I wanted to say that the last few days she has become VERY clingy and I think she knows that it could be any time.
@leeeahyo@EmilyLove25 FTM here, but I'll second the pets getting clingy. We have outdoor farm cats, the the momma cat was with us when she got pregnant and her and I bonded through the entire experience. But 2-3 days before she delivered them, she got exceptionally clingy and always wanted to be held. Since then (3 years ago) her and her son have gained their independence and normally fight being held. With all that said...this week they both cry to be held constantly, and once I pick them up they cuddle into me refusing to be put down! I think animals and children sense things like this.
@leeeahyo, DD is not quite 2, and knows that "Baby Brother" is in Mommy's belly, and that she's the "Big Sister." I have had two sisters and one SIL give birth this year, so I think she understands the concept better than I expected. If anything, though, DD has been a TERROR the last week. She's normally really happy and easy to reason with. But lately, she has been throwing tantrums at the tiniest little things. It's driving me CRAZY! I don't know if it's because she knows that change is coming...or because she's currently getting three teeth. Probably the latter. But all I know is that I want my sweet girl back! I would love cuddles and hand-holding.
@EmilyLove25 what a sweet pup!! @burnsmommy27@missblaze I wasn't sure if it was just coincidental or not! Thanks for validating! @TInman87 how neat! I had always heard this about animals and knew children could sense things (DS has been saying "ghost?!" lately..) I just didn't expect this sweetness from him with nearing the end of pregnancy!
Okay, this is going to sound really stupid, but a couple hours ago my abdomen (around my belly button) got really tight on/off and sore for a few minutes at a time, and now it's gone away. I was complaining to DH about it, and he's like "Are you having contractions?" and I'm like "Uhh...I don't know, how am I supposed to know?". So it occurred to me, for all my reading about contractions and what they are like, I have no idea if I'm having one or not. And if I am having one, I can't tell when they start or stop, so how am I supposed to time them? When they teach you about this stuff, it seems like it makes so much sense, but now I'm just freaked out that I can't tell what the hell is going on! When contractions start, will I just know or is it possible I might start labor and not even know it?
@gilsam1 When I started having labor contractions, I definitely knew it and they were very time-able. I'm not sure that's it's like that for everyone but there was no doubt with me. You may have been having a Braxton hick?
@gilsam1 I think most people definitely know when they are having contractions. When I went into labor with DD, I didn't know I was in labor during the early stages. I had pretty consistent period cramps and some BH-like tightening but they weren't extremely uncomfortable or time-able, really. However, I will say that when I had irritable uterus at 32 weeks this time and was having contractions every 2 minutes I knew something was up. Although still, not feeling horrible and I had no idea how to time them either. I've since learned
Yes, my DS has been super clingy lately, too! I think he does sort of have a sense of what's coming, but we've also been talking about the new baby for so many months now, he's probably also wondering if it's ever really going to happen.
I definitely knew when I was having actual contractions... But my water also broke first, before they started. Mine were not really timeable. My labor was so fast, the contractions were just kinda right on top of each other.

DD (3.2) has been super clingy too, but I am no where near due. I have at minimum 4 weeks to go. She keeps saying, "Hold me" or "I want to sleep in your bed" or "Stay with me". If I grimace because her brother is moving funny or lots of BH, she will say "Be nice to Mommy brother and stay still."
My 16 mo old knows something is going on, she rubs my belly and kisses it, she also brings her doll bottles to my belly to try to give her brother a drink lol. Other than that, I haven't noticed any changes in her behavior.
