Re: Fit Mom Friday 12/22

  • I started this because I’m currently lazing on the couch watching Netflix working up the will power to exercise.

So far I’ve exercised 3 days in a row this week. Hoping to keep the momentum going. I get a little more lightheaded than usual, so I’m just modifying as needed.

I’m getting some new workout equipment to hopefully start the newest Beachbody Program when it launches. This was my plan before my BFP, so I’m still going to try my best and modify as needed, as it’s supposed to be pretty intense.

With all the holiday goodies I’m hoping that working out will help me maintain some balance!

  • I'm excited that I've been able to keep up with my running! I stopped pretty early on with DS, and I'm hoping I can keep it up into third tri this time. Good for you @lalala2004 with the 3 in a row!

  • @lakesideknitter Way to go on your running!  And great job @lalala2004! You guys are helping inspire me.

I needed this thread. I've had overwhelming exhaustion. And when I do run, I puke. It's so different from my first pregnancy. I was able to run well into my second tri last time. I've slowed down a lot, I get a banana as soon as I wake up, but it's not helping the energy levels. So, I've changed my workout goals to just be getting a minimum of 10,000 steps in every day. That way I can really space it out over the day and it's making me feel much better. I walk a lot anyway, so taking the long way to get to the subway or taking the dog for a few extra blocks walk is pretty easy to work in. I'm still holding out hope that i can pick up some running again in the second tri, but we'll see.
I do need to motivate to get up and do yoga or other strength training in the mornings again. But, no matter how early I go to bed, I'm still bone tired in the morning.
  • @westphilly good for you for listening to your body! I always highly recommend Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube if you're not able to make it to a class. She's fantastic, and most of her videos are Hatha focus, so they can be 'easier' and don't elevate your heart rate as much as a vinyasa flow class. Although, she does have some good flow videos as well!

  • I've been doing Beachbody's prenatal workouts and yoga, which I've really enjoyed so far. Definitely need some more good prenatal yoga videos though... I'm going to need to mix it up. Does anyone have any recommendations for free ones?
  • I had to tell my personal trainer I'm pregnant this week, so my workouts with him are on hold until I see my doctor in January. I had been lifting increasingly heavier weights so I don't want to do anything like that without the doctor's okay. So far this week I've just worked out on the elliptical, but I have Beachbody on Demand so I'm going to check out the prenatal workouts too.
  • I haven’t changed my workouts at all yet since finding out I’m pregnant. I am really really trying to keep up with 5/week and eat well as my
last two pregnancies I kind of fell off the wagon after 9 weeks due to morning sickness and the fact that I will gain weight no matter what I do really gets in my head and makes me lazy haha. I lost all of my baby weight and then some after my second and really need to motivate myself to keep it up. Praying morning sickness doesn’t hit hard coming up as I’m only 4 weeks right now and feel great. Does anyone know if you can still buy the prenatal beach body DVDs or is it only beach body on demand now? Our gym is setup with a DVD player so that would be handy.
  • @kdc8818 I did this one some during my first pregnancy: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B87FpWtkIKA

  • I haven't made it to the gym since last Monday :(. No i'm not proud of that. DS has been sick since last Wednesday so I can't take him to the care center and if I take him to my moms thats and extra 40 minutes that I just haven't had. The not sleeping also it screwing with my ability to do anything at home in the afternoons. It's a vicious cycle though because I know i'd sleep better if I was getting in my exercise. Hopefully I'll get in a good walk Christmas day and then get back to my gym routine.

  • @lakesideknitter I'll definitely check out that Youtube channel! Thanks!
I have a Rodney Yee Yoga For Athletes video that I love. It focuses on the hips and opening the front body, so it is great for pregnancy target areas too. But, I do get the heart rate going sometimes, so an alternative that is slower would be nice.

  • I made 3 yoga classes this week, (Tuesday/Thursday/today). I’m hoping to get to the studio tomorrow too. They are vinyasa classes. I second yoga by Adrienne on YouTube. That’s what I do if I want to practice but can’t make it to the studio.

I’m also more dizzy than normal, so I’m modifying as needed and taking it slow. I usually do hot power flow classes but am backing off those for now. Hoping to start doing at least one hot class a week once I start feeling a bit better. My studio only heats to 95 degrees, not 102 or anything.
  • Struggling but still working out as much as I can. Had an amazing workout yesterday and ate like  whole pizza for dinner. So.
  • I've only worked out once in the past two weeks. Fail. I was doing so good before but I got so sick and the cough is lingering on forever. I tried to work out on Tuesday and it did not go well so I'm just waiting to try again until next week. Hopefully the cough goes away soon so I can get back to it.
  • @firemanswife11. Yum! Pizza.
@amac12999 Yoga fan here too, but I don’t go as often as I’d like.
@lakesideknitter. Hello fellow runner! I ran through my other pregnancies and really hope to do the same. I actually have a few races I’m already signed up for this spring.

I just got a bfp this week, but I’ve been running and lifting weights with the occasional yoga class. The fatigue hasn’t hit me...yet.  :#
  • @lalala2004 What's the newest Beach Body program? I have T25 and really like it, although I usually modify it because all the jumping makes my knees hurt!
@lakesideknitter I love yoga with Adrienne! It's so great.
@juliebird6 So sorry you've been sick! It's good to take time off of exercising to rest sometimes when you're sick. Hope you feel better soon.

AFM I'm on vacation visiting my parents right now but I've been trying to go for some walks and I've been doing a few laps in the pool. I'm hoping to get back into a good routine when I get back home. I'm a little worried to do too much exercising *TW* after my 2 previous losses, so I'll probably take it easy for a while by doing some less strenuous work outs. *End TW*

  • @lalala2004 Is that Autumn's Obsessed program? I've been seeing ads for it - or did that one already come out? I have the 21 DFX and the Hammer and Chisel programs and I like them - I only do them when I want to workout at home though.

I went to crossfit 2x this week and I think now that's a good fit. Told my coach I'm pregnant so we've been modifying things - not lifting heavy and keeping my HR low per my dr.  I also went to dance for 2 hours on Wednesday, and did some cardio on Tuesday. I'm about to jump back on the elliptical tonight for another 30 min session of that.

I think I'm going to start back up my knocked-up fitness membership. I had it for a month before and the workouts were good and more than what was on beachbody. I think she has like 20 different workouts - some yoga, kettlebell, and pilates stuff. I think it's like 35$ a month? I may turn that back on after the first tri.

My real problem is food. This week has been terrible! Every day my students are bringing me treats or the office has some treats for us or someone has cooked something for us - which is super nice, and if I had stronger willpower I would say no thanks but I just don't. The holidays I tend to get a bit crazy. After xmas I need to ditch sugar really badly.

  • I’m a fitness instructor on the side of my day job and I had to tell them I needed a month off to see if I’m feeling better. My anxiety about being in front of everyone if I’m not feeling great was just too much. It’s been a week since I exercised personally and I feel guilty but just am not In the mood. I don’t want to lose my muscles though!
  • I had a great weight-lifting day yesterday and then a nice cardio day today. I have also been doing some long walks with my dog. I so so so want to keep this up. Last time the fatigue just became too much, though, and once I got out of the habit of going to the gym, I STAYED out of the habit of going to the gym. Boo! Trying to be different this time around.

  • ^^^ Same! I didn’t work out hardly at all my first pregnancy, despite being active prior to that. I refuse to let that happen. I became addicted to yoga when DS was like 4 months and refuse to let my practice go. It’s tough getting there, but it makes me feel better. I hope to start getting some walks in once I hit 2nd trimester and am not so exhausted.
  • @offtoneverland @hezzer78 80 Day Obsession, yes it’s Autumn’s new program and it comes out January 13th I think.

  • I was doing great keeping up my workouts until the nausea hit last weekend. It's been constant and there's no way I can go to the gym feeling this way :( This happened my last pregnancy...I was sick the entire first tri, then when the nausea left by the 2nd tri I only had the stamina to take walks.

Normally, I lift, do TRX, kettlebells, yoga and sprinkle in some cardio. Fingers crossed I can get back to the gym soon. I need it for my mental health.
  • I think I’ve worked out twice since my BFP and I’ve missed a few of the Fit4Mom classes I teach. I’ve just been feeling like crap and have no energy. I was so lazy when I was pregnant with DS and I really want this pregnancy to be different but I am not off to a good start.
  • I’m only 5 weeks, but I did 4 days of a slightly toned down version of HIIT training and one of those days added in some running. With my daughter I was extremely ill 6weeks-16weeks with HG so I’m enjoying being able to stay active while I can.
  • I had to push through some serious nausea today, but I did it. I think I’m motivated by how out of shape I got last pregnancy. And I’m using this extra time off I’m getting over the holidays to keep up the momentum.

  • Started out the week strong. I belong to FXB and instruct two nights a week.. Made it to Kickboxing a third night but fell off the wagon Thurs and Fri. Since week 6 I've been feeling more tired and morning Nausea which makes it hard getting to the gym.. But I know I feel Better after. Modifying my workouts to ensure me and baby are safe. Hope to get back on the gym train after Christmas Monday!
  • Really needed to see this post. I did manage to work out twice this week, one of which was a 6 mile run. However this is very difficult for me since I was working out 5-6 a week before I got pregnant. Since the six week mark, I have nausea all day and no energy. I feel lazy not working out, hopefully the nausea will pass soon!!!
  • I live out in the sticks with a long private driveway (~ 1 mi) to the nearest county road with our mailbox. It is rolling hills and partially wooded, so it's a really nice walk. I've been forcing myself outside to walk to the top of the big hill in the middle and back every day, if it's sunny I'll continue on to the mailbox to get the mail and then back to the house.

I hate exercising in a gym or on treadmills, I need the fresh air and/or sunshine every day. I don't see how people can do it. Heh

I'd like to find a yoga program for pregnancy, to help me stretch and open things up, as I'm not the most flexible person ever. So if anyone has recommendations on that, I'd appreciate it.
  • I did a Les Mills BodyPump (weightlifting) class at my gym for the entire duration of my last pregnancy. I was in class the day before my due date last time haha. I'm hoping to do the same this time around, but my attendance at the gym has greatly suffered since my son was born. Boo for my husband working an opposite schedule as me and never having a sitter.

  • I just made myself do 30 minutes of weights and the bike. It was so sad but I did it so that’s all that matters!

That is awesome! I love the classes and I definitely freaked out so many people in the class being there so pregnant :) But my instructor knew and gave me all the modifications I needed. Though toward the end I just used the chest track to sit back and do nothing haha

I love body pump. And my sister is also an instructor!! Yay for body pump!

As for me, I lift weights with my husband.  I've been getting to the gym a few times a week. Trying to go light. I usually squat and deadlift well over a hundred pounds so going light and more reps is a big boring for me but still makes me happy to stay active.
