This is actually a great idea for a thread used to post all the listeria (and related) recalls we come across. I follow the FDA on FB and am astounded how many listeria recalls I've been seeing lately.
Yes I would be interested in a thread of recalls!! I seriously had no idea about it until I was pregnant with my DS! How does that shit live on frozen waffles lol
Anyone know the dates or code I'm looking for on the French toast? I didn't see it and have some in my fridge. Well, I have the regular French Toast not the one with the sausage.
Thanks for the head's up! This FDA site has a listing of recent recalls - I just filtered by Food and keyword "listeria" and there's a scary number of listeria recalls in the last two months..! Aunt Jemima is the most recognizable/mainstream one on the list.

tl;dr : most mac and cheese with powdered cheese have levels of phthalates, which are banned from kids toys because they are harmful, that are higher than levels you would find in your body naturally. "The chemicals, called phthalates, can disrupt male hormones like testosterone and have been linked to genital birth defects in infant boys and learning and behavior problems in older children. The chemicals migrate into food from packaging and equipment used in manufacturing and may pose special risks to pregnant women and young children."

@cait5413@ktcakes87 You'd have to eat mac n cheese nearly daily for there to be a real risk. I don't know about you guys, but I can tell you that as a mac n cheese lover, even I can't eat it daily.
At the same time though, because they're saying the phthalates are passed into the food via its packaging, you might as well just not eat anything packaged by a machine. Which is practically everything you do not make, grow or raise yourself.
Omg homemade mac n cheese Is so much better with your own cheese sauce and maybe bread crumbs mmmm ok so lol I'm just flaming y'all just kidding I like survived on velveeta mac n cheese shells back in the day. Lol if anyone needs to gain weight quickly that's the way to do it lol eat velveeta mac n cheese everyday for like 2 month
Absolutely not too tricky to make Mac & Cheese from scratch, nor to keep the staples on hand so you can whip it up! This is one of my favorite recipes:
While homemade Mac and cheese is better for you (and better tasting), convenience wins 8 out of 10 times. Between food aversions, morning sickness, having a toddler running around and screaming, the last thing I'm doing is making it from scratch.
Like i said earlier. Every once in a while won't kill you. Don't live your pregnancy in a bubble.
OUTBREAK ALERT: Do not eat, serve, or sell Caribeña Maradol papayas. Throw them out. These papayas are linked to an outbreak of illnesses—serious, sometimes fatal—in Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. Additional brands are expected to be announced as more information becomes available. To prevent cross contamination, wash and sanitize refrigerators or any surfaces where you may have stored or placed the papayas. For more information about the investigation... https://go.usa.gov/xRkCh.
Update on Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Papayas: The FDA is warning consumers to avoid all Caribeña brand Maradol papayas. Grande Produce has informed the FDA that the company initiated a limited recall of their Caribeña brand Maradol papayas distributed nationwide from July 7 - July 18, 2017. As of July 25, 2017, Grande Produce has not issued a press release to notify consumers of their recall. Therefore, FDA is advising consumers to avoid all Caribeña brand Maradol papayas. The FDA also noted that there are illnesses in states where Grande Produce did not distribute papayas and is continuing its investigation. https://go.usa.gov/xRRn2
FYI in case you all didn't know, make sure you read the packages on your steaks if you are planning on eating it less than well done. 'Mechanically Tenderized' steaks have been punctured to the center with hundreds of needles, potentially shoving pathogens from the exterior of the meat into the center. ALL of the steak at our local Costco is processed this way, and a lot of people don't realize it is a health risk. The reason steak is safe to eat rare/med rare is because in theory the pathogens remain on the exterior of the meat and get killed when it is seared.
ALERT: Do not eat—throw out or return—select pints of Comfy Cow ice cream, found to be contaminated with E.coli. This germ commonly causes diarrhea and dehydration in most infected people. However, it can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections. For a list of the recalled ice cream and who to call with questions… https://go.usa.gov/xRywY.
WARNING: Do not eat certain egg salad sandwiches, ham salad sandwiches, and seafood stuffing distributed to Hannaford Brothers, American Food and Vending, Target, Turkey Hill, and Walgreens in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Rhode Island. These products recalled by Greencore should be thrown out because they could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a germ causing serious, sometimes fatal illness in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with chronic health conditions. Although healthy individuals might suffer only short-term symptoms, the germ can cause pregnant women to lose their babies. For more information, including a list of recalled products with use-by dates: https://go.usa.gov/xnCY9.
RECALL: Do not use Kroger’s Comforts FOR BABY Purified Water with Fluoride Added with sell by dates from 4/26/2018 to 10/10/2018. The gallons of purified water were distributed only to Kroger and affiliated stores and may contain mold. For more information about this advisory: https://t.co/qvolPoV71N
This isn't a listeria recall, but I was totally surprised to read that the FDA recommends not eating raw dough even if it doesn't have eggs because the raw FLOUR can be contaminated with salmonella. https://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm508450.htm
Meijer recalls select brand packaged products due to sliced apples within the products being potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. https://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm590131.htm
