TTGP Grad Check-in w/o Dec 21

How far along are you?

How's this week going generally?

Any R/R/Q?

Which holiday are you most excited to celebrate with LO once he/she is born? (Or were already excited to celebrate if you're a S+TM :)) Why?

Any activities you're excited to see if LO likes once he/she is old enough? (e.g., specific sports, dance, music lessons, etc.) Are they different than what your SO is curious about?

What's your wrapping style this year? (ie, lazy, super duper into it, gold/silver, bright colors, bags over paper, newspaper, etc.)

How's this week going generally? slow. I am so not interested in working but I have to

Any R/R/Q? Rave-we met a doula last night and sat in on the first hour of the Bradley class. We liked her a lot and the class seemed organized and well rounded so we are definitely going with her for the classes and more than likely as our doula as well since we will get to know her over the ten week class. Rant-I wanna take a nap! Q-from last nights class on breastfeed that I was too shy to ask because I was just a guest and they were all at 30+ weeks but how do you know when a feeding session is over? Do you go until the baby just stops? Or do you go until your breast milk seems to be slowing down? And if that is the answer then how do you know when it's all gone?

Which holiday are you most excited to celebrate with LO once he/she is born? (Or were already excited to celebrate if you're a S+TM ) Why? I think Christmas is probably an obvious one because of the magic of the season but I might be more excited for 4th of July or Memorial Day. For the Fourth we always go to my dad's lake house and go boating and spend time outside and have cook outs and fires. For Memorial Day we always go camping and I am excited to go camping with kids. They have so much fun just being outside, playing and getting dirty!

Any activities you're excited to see if LO likes once he/she is old enough? (e.g., specific sports, dance, music lessons, etc.) Are they different than what your SO is curious about? I was in dance and I will admit that I will be a crazy dance mom and enroll my 3 year old (boy or girl) in ballet. If they say that they don't like it I wont force them to do it but if they don't want to keep doing that they will have to choose something. I think at least one activity, group or sport is important.

What's your wrapping style this year? (ie, lazy, super duper into it, gold/silver, bright colors, bags over paper, newspaper, etc.) This year and every year I am pretty into it. I like to get different ribbons and bows and fancy tags. I prefer wrapping in boxes and I am obsessive about making sure the folds are perfect and the paper is lined up. This year I am on a plaid paper with gold ribbon and red and green bows kick. I have a few different styles of paper that I mix together but that is the main one I have been liking.

How's this week going generally? Good, I think I'm finally over my cold, and DH's work seems to be wrapping up so he's in good spirits. Had a crazy fight with my mom yesterday, but I think we're over it today. It's the same fight we've had literally once a month since I was like, 11-years-old. Sigh.

Any R/R/Q? Mmmm just jelly that @krashke has her birth classes sorted and I still feel overwhelmed lol. I just feel a lot of pressure to choose "the right" class because they're all so long, and DH's work schedule is so nutso, and they cost money, so I feel like if I choose the wrong one, or a bad teacher, or the space isn't comfortable, or it's at a weird time that we'll both be pissy about it. Sigh. Gotta just pull the trigger soon or it'll be too late.

Which holiday are you most excited to celebrate with LO once he/she is born? (Or were already excited to celebrate if you're a S+TM ) Why? I think Halloween mostly because KIDS IN COSTUMES ARE SO CUTE! I think kids should have to wear costumes every day.

Any activities you're excited to see if LO likes once he/she is old enough? (e.g., specific sports, dance, music lessons, etc.) Are they different than what your SO is curious about? I would really like our kids to be dancers mostly because I think they're more likely to have my body type, and everyone always tells me I should've been a dancer. I took ballet when I was in preschool but then refused to keep going, my mom didn't fight me on it, yada yada. But seriously, like, even my first three toes on each foot are all the same size. I could've done point! (I mean, if you get over the fact that I had/have zero coordination... but still!) DH also thinks our kids will have my body type so he has his heart set on volleyball players (sigh). Thankfully even if we have boys later he's deadset against football, lacrosse, etc. No contact sports at all, which is merciful since he played ice hockey very competitively until he broke his collarbone at 16. I just don't want anyone to play baseball because I don't want to watch baseball games. My mom thinks we'll have pianists - she regrets never putting me in piano classes because I have such long fingers/large hands. She saw our 12 week ultrasound photo and said (and I quote), "Look at his/her long fingers! A future pianist!" Sigh.

What's your wrapping style this year? (ie, lazy, super duper into it, gold/silver, bright colors, bags over paper, newspaper, etc.) I am very rarely into it, but I am a neutral metallic girl when I am. This year I'm just going to use whatever wrapping paper my mom has lying around, which she keeps claiming she has, but I have yet to see. So... who knows. lol
  • @doxiemoxie212 I would highly recommend asking to sit in on a class if you're worried about picking the right one. The doula/instructor was really nice, young and normal. I was concerned with natural birth and doulas that I would get some crazy 1960's hippy. Like Ina May lol. I respect her and her teachings but I'm not sure I could handle her for two hours every week for ten weeks.

Around here we are probably going to end up with hockey kids. We have a friend that built an amazing rink in his yard. I will be of no help through because I can't skate if my life depended on it. We tried it a couple years ago and I was that lady clutching to the wall and MH the whole time.

  • @krashke I don't think they do that sort of thing in NYC. There just isn't space since most people seem to teach in their apts? And they're very small. And honestly there don't seem to be THAT many classes unless we want to travel out to Queens or Brooklyn, which DH will refuse to do.

Hockey makes me so nervous. I also cannot skate for isht, so I know that's part of it. But I've also watched DH play in some rec leagues, and it's SO violent. DH has so many weird injuries from hockey (he's permanently slightly duck footed and round shouldered because he played SO often starting at age 4, not to mention weird scars and broken bones), it just freaks me out. Thankfully if we move to CA it won't even be an issue. No ice rinks anywhere near where we'd live! lol
  • @doxiemoxie212 maybe you can just meet with the instructor for coffee? Get a feel for them and maybe ask a few questions about their teaching style/class contents. I really liked that they instructor last night although very clearly "breast is best" and "the only way to get 8 hours of sleep with a baby is to co-sleep" she still wasn't pushy and discussed other options as well.

  • @krashke maaaybe. I don’t think they’ll be open to it tho lol. All the reviews for literally every class here says the downside is instructors are impossible to contact outside of class times lol. Welcome to New York?
  • @doxiemoxie212 everything I'm hearing about NYC does not sound fun. I hope YH finds a job in Cali! The instructors I have talked to here have all been like call me any time! They don't respond to emails as quickly as I would prefer but I'm on my computer literally all day and I have unrealistic expectations. Maybe the reviews can offer you enough insight. Also, it sounds stupid, but I facebook stalked the instructors I was looking at. It will probably be different for the ones in NYC because they're probably too cool for social media but I was totally judging their books by their covers.

  • How far along are you? 17 wks today

How's this week going generally? Slow! So effin slow! Everyday feels like it should be a Friday. I'm also finally spending atleast half my work days training in my new position so i can transition full time after the holiday. Here and there I keep thinking wtf was I thinking, this could be over my head. Oh yah, thinking $ plus new baby.

    Any R/R/Q?
my rant is my hormones today. There's issues with DS' school due to his ADHD behavior. Normally I'm on their side but mama bear claws came out today when DH told me. Not how I wanted to start Xmas break.

Which holiday are you most excited to celebrate with LO once he/she is born? (Or were already excited to celebrate if you're a S+TM ) Why?
christmas is just awesome. The look in their eyes is amazing. I keep fearing we only have a few years left before he starts questioning something.

Any activities you're excited to see if LO likes once he/she is old enough? (e.g., specific sports, dance, music lessons, etc.) Are they different than what your SO is curious about?
DH and his whole family have always been all about wrestling and soccer. I'm hesitant on wrestling cause in the 14 yrs we've been together, I've seen him have 5 shoulder surgeries cause of how jacked up they are from wrestling. He'll probably need them replaced one day. I'm ok with soccer tho if ds wants!
I always just looked forward to running him to any activities but no idea when that'll start cause his attention is that of a flea so until we get that under order..

What's your wrapping style this year? (ie, lazy, super duper into it, gold/silver, bright colors, bags over paper, newspaper, etc.)
ds' paper from Santa has to have Santa on it. Everyone else's... doesn't matter. No ribbons, bows. Not the neatest wrapper but it's good enough.

    How's this week going generally?

Good but stressful, DS' birthday was yesterday and DH's birthday is tomorrow. It's a busy week in our house! I can't believe my baby is 3 now. We had his party last weekend so yesterday was lower key but we went to see Christmas lights in the evening, he loves them.

Any R/R/Q? I got my NT scan results yesterday - all came back screen negative so that's good.
Also jumping in the doula convo,I asked the Doula we used with DS and she agreed to be our doula again so I'm really excited about that!

Which holiday are you most excited to celebrate with LO once he/she is born? (Or were already excited to celebrate if you're a S+TM ) Why?
I love celebrating Christmas with DS because it gives it a special joy. I'm sure it just multiplies with more kids so that'll be fun to see with this one too.

Any activities you're excited to see if LO likes once he/she is old enough? (e.g., specific sports, dance, music lessons, etc.) Are they different than what your SO is curious about?
I'm curious to see if they're into similar or different things than DS!

What's your wrapping style this year? (ie, lazy, super duper into it, gold/silver, bright colors, bags over paper, newspaper, etc
Just to get it done halfway decent!
  • This week was busy and I was unmotivated, which is never a good combo.

Im 17+1 today. I told my coworkers yesterday after I had my review and comp discussion. It was such a relief to tell them (and get my review done).

We are relling my ILs today. This will be the first time we see them since I was 4 weeks pregnant and we wanted to tell them in person.

DS doesn’t really get Christmas yet but I love seeing him experience things that I remember from this season - the first snowfall, watching frosty, the Christmas tree. Unfortunately he came down with a cold yesterday and is pretty miserable. I hope he can rally for Christmas.
  • @izza2 I'm so sorry about the spotting, that is scary and never something you want to see while pregnant. I'm so glad everything is ok! We were going to announce yesterday too but didn't for the same exact reason, I know the holidays are hard for so many and I can certainly wait a week or so if it makes it even a smidge easier. Christmas last year was so hard for me because we had just started IF treatment and literally 13 of my friends announced on Christmas. So having been on the other side of it, I know the awareness is appreciated.

I'm trying to think of a clever New Year announcement, any ideas?
  • @izza2 ugh spotting is such a mindfck. Hopefully it was just this weird random thing that doesn't happen again. I'm sorry you had to deal with that, though. :(
  • @TravelingCouple - I'm trying to think of what we can do for a New Years announcement. So far I've thought of a picture of an announcement card with an u/s picture on it, and something like "New Year, New Addition".
I suck at creativity, though. H has more creative bones in his body than I do!

  • @izza2 I found some ideas online, still mulling around... We had family photos done a few weeks ago so I'll prob use one of those with my hand on my belly and maybe make a collage with something like this:

    Or this:

But thinking which is less cheesy?? Haha. It's all cheesy. And then I'll put the ultrasound too.
