Re: EDD end of Jan - Feb 4 week of December 18

  • 1. Any appointments this week?
No appointments this week. I had one last week and I'm just waiting for the office to give me schedule for my weekly NSTs and regular appointments that will either start next week or the week after because of holidays.
    2. How are you feeling? Just tired. Every afternoon I wish for a nap which isn't possible between days I'm working or home with our DD. I wish I could drink coffee to power through but can't do that either right now. Otherwise feeling pretty good.
    3. What do you have left to do for baby? We plan to set up the full nursery after the holidays. We will be converting a room our DD plays in to the nursery and moving her toys to her room.
    4. This week's holiday plans? Going to in-laws for brunch on Christmas and getting together with my side later in the week.
    5. Anything else you wish to discuss? We have a really small group,  so have at it!

  • 1. Any appointments this week? I have a 32 week appt today.
    2. How are you feeling?  I'm ok.  Finally seem to be getting over my cold of 2 weeks, which is a relief.
    3. What do you have left to do for baby?  I started folding old baby clothes I got out of storage and washed.  I forgot how annoying baby clothes are.  NB, 0-3, 3 months, 3-6 months, 0-6 months, etc etc etc.  And different brands have different sizing so some 0-3 months are as small as other brands newborn so I'm getting twitchy trying to neatly organize the drawers by size.  I should really just organize by type of outfit (sleeper, onesie, pants).  Maybe I just solved my own problem in ranting about it here lol.
    4. This week's holiday plans?  Christmas Eve will be at my parents house, but just immediate family so super low key.  Christmas day will be at our house and again just immediate family and low key.
    5. Anything else you wish to discuss? We have a really small group,  so have at it!  Any STM have any good ideas for small items to put on a registry for a sprinkle?  This baby will be 5 years younger than my son so we don't have a lot of baby stuff leftover from DS.  I bought most of the big stuff over black friday/cyber monday so I'm just trying to think of the little stuff.  (My friends mostly don't have kids so they asked me to create a registry!)

Also, I had DS take a sibling class at the hospital and it was so useful!  I totally forgot about the whole toilet paper roll rule for toys.  DS has approximately 10 million legos so we have to be vigilant about clean up.  Also they showed a video of how the hospital will work so I think it was really helpful to DS to see how things would work when he comes to visit.

  • 1. Any appointments this week?    Just came from a biophysical and got a 3d pic, which was cool. He looks so squishy lol. Friday is my measuring appt.
    2. How are you feeling?      Overall I'm good still. Except sleeping, which is hard on my hips and stomach. Need to get more walking and stretching in, too.
    3. What do you have left to do for baby?   So much... still have to wash/sort the hand me down clothes we got. Wash and put on sheets (though probably won't do this til closer to due date). Figure out what to do with random stuff in the bedroom so we can make room for the changing pad and supplies.
    4. This week's holiday plans? Not much, actually. We're hosting our parents/fam at our house. I should probably plan a menu for that!
    5. Anything else you wish to discuss? We have a really small group,  so have at it!
Whats everyone's opinion on newborn pictures? Is it something we can just DIY? They're kind of pricey but at the same time, I'm so afraid of breaking baby trying to position him cuz I may be kinda zombie-like those first couple weeks. Worth doing? It's our first kiddo.
  • @clc515 are you good with a camera?  I think a lot of it is props and lighting and having a nicer camera.  We have a DSLR camera so pics in full light look ok with our lack of skill, but inside without extra lighting equipment, I wouldn't trust myself to do them and expect decent results.

  • @Megzb510 Both me and the Mister are pretty good with a camera... but never taken pics of babies, so it's like, do we leave that to professionals? I hear they sleep a lot ,though, so maybe it's easier?
  • @clc515 we did our own newborn photos for DD. My husband has a good camera and likes taking pictures. If you do it in the 1st 2 weeks they are easy to position and that's when most newborn photographers will want to do it too. We set DD up in basket on pillow with and without a swaddle and they turned out great!
  • @Megzb510 possible ideas/items for sprinkle - things you maybe don't still have - diapers, swaddle blankets, grooming kit, monitor, boppy, bottles, teething rings, infant toys...

  • 1. Any appointments this week?
    Nope.

    2. How are you feeling?
Tired and heavy. overwhelmed and emotional.

    3. What do you have left to do for baby?
It feels like everything! Or nursery we planned has not been started, we don't have any of the furniture for it.  we don't have most of the thing's we need.  I have s small grocery sized bag full of clothes.

    4. This week's holiday plans?
My mom arrives today for the holidays.  We will do Christmas eve (German Christmas) are my mil &fils along with 2 church services,  and then Christmas is at our house.  No one is sure when/if my sil and family will show up because she has a 1  year old and doesn't want to do anything that would conflict with nap or meal times.

    5. Anything else you wish to discuss? We have a really small group,  so have at it!

I know showers are not expected,  especially for not 1st births,  but I'm a little disappointed.  Mil insisted through early pregnancy she was throwing a shower for the baby,  and that it would be co-ed because this is dh's first child,  and hasn't mentioned anything in the last 2 months or so.  And now I'm kinda bummed. I would have planned a  lunch with my friends to celebrate if i knew we weren't having a shower,  and now it just feels to late to plan anything.

  • @clc515 i think you can totally do newborn pics if you have a good phone/camera .  You just need a few good pros to make it look professional and try to keep it simple.  Like a large blanket to drape on stuff and position the baby on,  maybe a basket, and a co-ordinating swaddle and patience.

@Megzb510 diapers, cups/bottles, onesies,  teethers would all make good sprinkle gifts.  I'd say for a sprinkle you could put most anything that is at a lower price point,  like if its under $10 put it on the registry,  and maybe a few items up to $20. But nothing over that.

  • @mamaof5already that is so frustrating that your mil said she was going to do a shower and then nothing. Maybe she's doing a surprise one? If not - even though it's later you could still have a lunch with your friends early in January if you're feeling up to it. But if your mil said she was doing something and isn't anymore that is so wrong.
  • @mamaof5already I'm sorry your MIL isn't coming through for you. My first guess was also maybe it's a surprise... have you asked your husband about it at all? I hope she "surprises" you with one *crossing fingers*

I did mention it to him to see if she had been planning with him.  He knows less than I do and asked if we could just throw our own. I think he was looking forward to it as he has gone to his sisters shower,  and several of his guy friends had co-ed showers he had attended.

@msunshine123 i might see how everything is after the holidays,  but don't know if I'll be up to planning and arranging something and driving back and forth on my own at that point.  We live at least an hour away from almost everything.

    1. Any appointments this week?

    None until next Wednesday

    2. How are you feeling?

I have honestly, and thankfully, had a very easy pregnancy so far (which I won’t take for granted because I have heard subsequent pregnancies can vary). But this week I have started struggling with some insane insomnia. I work 12 hr shifts at night from 7p-7a. Unfortunately, for the next few weeks I will be working 3 shifts in a row every week. Meaning the days I do have off I can’t seem to sleep at night. At most I get 2-3 hours in a row and usually end up snoozing on and off on the couch until dawn. Then am exhausted the rest of the day.

Anyone have any suggestions. I did take a benadryl a couple nights last week due to a cold and it seemed to help me sleep. But I am hesitant to use that as a sleep aid.

    3. What do you have left to do for baby?

Not much. Everything is bought. Nursery finished. Just wash and sort hand me down clothes from my sister, and find a pediatrician.

    4. This week's holiday plans?

My fiancé and I are both working through Christmas Eve. We’ll get home around the same time Christmas morning. Exchange gifts. Sleep. And then have dinner at my parents house that evening. Low key, but exactly what we need. I am excited to give him his gifts :)

    5. Anything else you wish to discuss? We have a really small group,  so have at it!

Did anyone else forego birthing classes as a FTM? It isn’t a matter of want but a problem with scheduling. I work every weekend and SO works 24hr shifts with 48hrs off in between. Thinking of doing online?

  • @Megzb510 i would ask for diapers in various sizes or $10-$20 amazon gift cards. Your friends could buy those is any grocery store, and then you can use them to get whatever you end up needing.

@mamaof5already that is so disappointing. If you don’t end up having the shower or planning something yourself, perhaps plan a get together after baby is born (I think they’re called ‘Sip and See’). That way you can still celebrate with friends/family and DH won’t feel like he missed out on any milestone.

I dont take any classes before my first baby i delivered 4 weeks early and they hadn't started  yet. You'll be fine,  but you can read up in books,  or watch videos if you think you want something.

  • Just got out of my measuring appt. Kiddo is 5lbs and 10oz OMG - I'm 34+1. 76th percentile, which is "okay" and they know that they can be off by a few oz.

@nightnurse92 I haven't signed up for a birthing class yet either. There's one left before my due date, so may jump on that. It's allll day though. Other moms - are they really helpful/necessary? I don't think I can get a breastfeeding class in because there's only one left and it's like 4 day before my due date.  They have lactation consultants at the hospital so maybe I can get a crash course there.

I didn't do any breastfeeding classes and basically learned hands on with the lactation consultant. I think that's something best learned hands on.
For our DS we had sone the Bradley method classes and found them to be helpful, but I'd say if you're unable to attend a class - reading up online&/ watching videos is better than nothing maybe just have some ideas.
