Parenting after a Loss

bawling from "A Baby Story"...

The woman on there had a natural birth and it reminded me so much of my own experience. So weird to watch it third-hand after going through it first-hand. Brought back all the trauma and intensity of it. I was holding DD watching it and realized I was BAWLING. She was just looking at me like "huh?"

As much as I SWORE I would never in a million years go natural again (or have a baby again for that matter!) I think I just decided that I will try to go natural with #2.?

  • I secretly think you're nuts, but wildly applaud you for it.  I'm all like, bring on the c-section! Lol!

  • Ali&Luke -- thanks so much for sharing that. I was hoping #2 would be a little bit quicker/easier. I had 19hrs of labor (I was home for 14 of them) and about an hour of pushing.?

I also hadn't dropped at all before labor and was not at all dilated at my appt the day before. I feel like if I got through it once I can do it again.

  • My SIL had 3 unmedicated births.  I give you and her credit.  I *thought* I had a high pain tolerance, but pitocin, back labor and an epidural that only numbed one side taught me otherwise.  I ended up with a c-section with Joey and I was thrilled to have a scheduled c-section with Allie.

I think my longer pushing times and tearing is related to the fact that both kids never dropped before labor; I pushed them both all the way through the birth canal.?

Wow, I never heard that or thought of that before. I ended up with a 2nd degree tear and was wondering if I could have done anything to avoid that. I guess having a 9-pounder born quickly doesn't help. I don't think she fully "dropped" before my water was broken either.

I would do a med-free birth again in a heartbeat, even if it was harder and/or longer the next time around. But it sounds like it gets easier in most cases :)

  • I feel the same way.  My duola claimed that 2nd births are easier than firsts, though... so hopefully it won't be nearly as long or painful!! :)

  • I don't know if I could have done it! She was still sunny side up when I went into labor and the contractions in the back were pretty horific. Because she was sunny side up, I never dropped before labor and I did end up with a 2nd degree tear. That was booty. I am thinking about it for #2, if the kid ends up facing the right way!! My epidural with Josie only took on one side, despite me flip flopping onto both sides to get it to "even out". Then it ran out just when I started pushing [which was only 3 hours after I got it].
