Blocked tube, redo HSG?

I had my initial consultation for IVF today. After all the testing with my OB, we found I had one blocked tube and did 3 rounds of clomid before seeing the specialist. This specialist felt that he wanted to redo the HSG test as he has good luck opening blocked tubes. He also has me doing a few additional tests (day 3 testing which we hadn't done yet).

I get the additional tests but has anyone redone the HSG test to open a tube? My OB was "in there" during her attempt on the HSG trying to open it, $800 out of pocket later is redoing it really beneficial? If he can't open it he wanted to do more clomid and just monitor more closely. I'm like just sign me up for the extreme treatment here!! If 3 rounds of clomid just made me cranky and bloated, what's 3 more going to do?

Ugh sorry just curious what others did with the one tube diagnosis.

Re: Blocked tube, redo HSG?

  • Hi
so sorry to hear about your situation. I can relate, I have a right blocked tube as shown in my hsg as a result of an ectopic pregnancy this past summer. I guess my body healed the tube shut, thats what my RE doctor says.
he said take more clomid, or open the tube using cannulation, or go to IVF.
i am just trying to give myself time to see if I ovulate on the left on my own without clomid bc I no longer want to take it , to me I feel its what caused my ectopic.
I guess to answer your question, I have not done anything with the blocked tube diagnosis , I am trying to get a second opinion from a High risk GYN on what I should do. Its tough to figure out what is the right decision. I am afraid to open up the tube and get another ectopic.
In time you will know what is best, trust your gut instinct.
    Best wishes
  • I had a potential blocked tube on my first HSG and then my new RE wanted to redo it- same thing- wanted to confirm, see if they could flush it open with the saline, etc. Turns out the second HSG showed my tube was actually open! I also had a 3rd HSG before doing IVF because they think it helps flush everything open before transfer. So having a second one is definitely not unheard of! Good luck!
