  • Procrastination is the name of the game for this FTM. Thanks for starting this thread! I’m going to need all the help I can get!
  • Loading the player...
  • I haven't started yet! STM here and I just can't seem to make myself get anything ready yet! I'll be following along too!
  • Any other ftms out there wish they were pregnant as long as an elephant?!...no! just me? Ok.
I'm not ready...i get overwhelmed thinking of nursery, clothes, equipment, now bag items.
I need more time.  Thanks for starting this thread to give ideas.

  • Here’s what I’ve got so far. I’m a repeat csection so I don’t have stuff for laboring.

    Boppy

    Long iPhone charging cable

    Robe

    Prenatal/tums

    DS’s big brother shirt

Toiletries (deodorant, razor, dry shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, shampoo/conditioner, lotion)

Muslin swaddle (one that is nice for hospital pics)

    Warm blanket for car

    Nursing tanks

    Leggings

    Underwear

Pads (I don’t like the hospital ones)

Outfits for baby to go home in (newborn and 0-3 months)

    Shower flip flops

    Baby mittens

Pump? I am torn on this. I didn’t need it with DS but trying to get a good start on BF.

At the hospital tour the woman told us to not bring our pumps. However I've seen on here that people have specifically been told to bring their pump. I think I'm going to bring mine sterilized & ready to go just in case I have issues and need to get things moving.

DH and I were just discussing this today. We’re so anxious for baby to get here and meet him but at the same time we are not ready AT ALL.
  • We did a really long thread about this around Halloween.  It's called What's in your hospital bag if you want to take a look  :)

I thought we had... but then I thought maybe I was getting mixed up with other months.

Ahhhh I even checked with the search function and didn’t see one for our month. My bad!

It's like 3 pages back so it's pretty buried.  It has a ton of good discussion though!!
  • I haven't started,  and probably won't until it's almost time to go.  I don't remember packing a bag for any of my other deliveries...

4th time mom and I could go for a hippo pregnancy (8 months!) Actually, I'd be ready today if LO was ready to go (as in not premature with a nicu stay necessary.)
STM and also agree on the hippo theory above!

  • STM here.  I'm just packing pajamas, a nursing bra, and toiletries. And snacks for DH. I packed everything last time and used only the above. I was in labor for 30+ hours, and i didn't think about anything but labor and sleep! We only live 10 min from the hospital with family close by, so it's no problem to send DH back to the house or have someone bring food.

  •  Oh, and my FMLA forms. I faxed then from the hospital last time. I won't pack my bag until after the holidays.

The forms are a good idea.
  • @SquirrelsRWatching - ah I wish we were that close to our hospital.  We are a solid 45 minutes cuz local hospital is kind of a dive.  I would pack so much less if I could send DH home super quick for stuff!

  • I planned homebirths with my last three, so the whole bag packing thing was not on my radar until the other thread. My mom packed my bag the day I was induced, since I was sent straight to L&D after getting checked by my midwife. And I packed my bag the day I was induced with dd2. I guess the equivalent for a homebirth is the birth kit, which I ordered between 35-36 weeks with my last three.

Since I procrastinate like it's going out of style, I'll likely wait until, like, 37 weeks, or something. I'm hoping we can schedule induction day for 38 weeks.

    Yes!  1000x yes!

I've always had my OB fill them out before having the baby.
  • Repeat c-section mama here and I haven't even thought about starting to pack  :D I'm such a procrastinator!  I'll be packing some snacks something comfy to wear home, some non slip socks (although the hospital provides some and they aren't horrible but my sis is getting some really cute ones), take home outfit and some gown sleepers for LO, other normal baby bag stuff although again our hospital provides everything you could possibly need and I went home with a lot of diapers last time lol.  I personally liked the mesh undies and giant pads they provide so I won't be packing those this time.  I'm sure there is more I am forgetting, but I didn't do a boppy last time and didn't miss it as I just used pillows and that worked for me for feeding.

Why can’t you take care of those now and not worry about them at the hospital? Mine is already approved.

    Edit....words suck
  • Our hospital/provincial health care gave us a list of exactly what they expect us to bring, down to the amounts! We have a carry on size bag full and that’s just they stuff they told us to bring. It seems excessive....

  • TTM and 3rd CS and I haven’t even given it a thought. I use almost everything the hospital provides bc I’m lazy so I really only need are comfy PJs, toothbrush/toothpaste, socks, phone charger, maybe a book, a few coming home outfits in different sizes.  DH will probanly go home everyday for a shower and change of clothes and he’s on his own otherwise.

I was encouraged to pump with DS1 while in the hospital and they Let me use their pump and gave me supplies, which I got to take home.  I won’t take pillows or blankets of my own bc I’d rather get their stuff dirty, not mine. Again, lazy.
  • Something I’m packing this time that I didn’t last time is juice boxes/bottles. I wasn’t allowed anything but clear liquids the whole time I was there for my induction (except my OB had mercy on me about 12 hours in when I was still only at 2 cm, she let my DH get me Taco Bell) and I was there for 34 hours before DS finally made his entrance. The popsicles and jello they had were literally just colored sugar water and the only thing that helped was my mom going out and bringing me a big cup of apple juice. So I’m coming prepared with juice this time. Maybe it’s silly but that hunger was no joke.

  • I am bringing nipple shields because I swear if that old ass grouchy lactation consultant comes by this time, I might punch her in the face when she disdainfully tells me “you don’t need those, that’s a crutch”. My nipples, my baby- and I successfully BF DD for a year that way.

I’m surprised you want to use that again! I used one for DS1. While I’m happy it allowed me to breastfeed him for nearly 16mo, it was SO MUCH EASIER with DD when I didn’t. I’ll avoid it like the plague this this time lol.

  • I’m starting to think about my bag now that the holidays are over. Definitely bringing a pumping bra!! Didn’t have one first go, and had to pump due to tongue tie/latch issues, and pumping without one was a hot mess.
  • STM CS with Twins last time. We took so much stuff with us last time and we didn't need a thing. I'm really only planning to take a couple outfits for the new baby (picture kinda outfits) a take home outfit, blanket and I will take a paci. Our hospital no longer provides paci's, they only give them to the baby if mom insists. I'll leave my boppy and pump at home. For me I'm thinking PJ's like leggings and a t-shirt crappy underwear and toiletries.

I'll be taking some depend silhouette underwear, PJ's, take home clothes for baby, juices and snacks, and clothes to wear home for myself. I live close to the hospitals I'm considering, so my husband can go back and forth get stuff for me like he did last time.
