Saturday Ticker Change 12/16

1) How far along are you? How big is baby?

2) How are you feeling?

3) Any appointments this week/last?

4) How are baby preparations going?

5) Rants/Raves/Questions?

6) GTKY - What holiday traditions did you grow up with, and do you want to do the same for your kid(s)? Is your SO in agreement?

This came up on my other BMB a few days ago regarding Christmas presents and I was surprised by the variety of responses. Does Santa visit? Does he use wrapping paper? Are the gifts mostly from Santa or from parents?

Re: Saturday Ticker Change 12/16

  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby? 36 weeks - papaya

    2) How are you feeling? Better since I decided I am DONE with pants besides leggings for the next month+. SPD is killing me though, especially in/getting out of bed.

    3) Any appointments this week/last? Wednesday is my last biweekly appointment. Expecting a conversation about VBAC vs RCS and not sure what I really want to go for.

    4) How are baby preparations going? I think realizing we are only a month away finally lit a fire under DH's ass about getting the nursery cleaned out. I just really want to have space to set up the crib frame and move the rocking chair in, even if nothing else happens.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?

    6) GTKY - What holiday traditions did you grow up with, and do you want to do the same for your kid(s)? Is your SO in agreement? Sooooo yeah this actually turned into a big argument with DH last weekend. I grew up with most things from mom & dad and stockings & some smallish presents from Santa. Santa used tissue paper to wrap and labeled things in ballpoint pen (and my dad's handwriting). DH ordered several things for DS and was freaking out about (1) having them where DS might see them (2) even if they were wrapped, and (3) *everything* is from Santa. The one thing DS saw was "ruined" bc now it had to come from us. I was seriously dumbstruck at the idea that we *wouldn't* give him presents from us.

  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby? 37 weeks. Romaine lettuce.

    2) How are you feeling? Exhausted. Congested. Overall worn out.

    3) Any appointments this week/last? Weekly appointments. On Thursday the midwife verified that baby has dropped and is engaged in my pelvis.

    4) How are baby preparations going? All done. I'm ready. I'm doing a load of laundry right now of clothes I bought today and the cover for my nursing pillow. Nursery is done. Everything is in the car.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions? I'm just tired. Tired enough where I can't imagine having the energy to endure birthing lol

    6) GTKY - What holiday traditions did you grow up with, and do you want to do the same for your kid(s)? Is your SO in agreement? Santa brought presents that were wrapped and had tags with our names on them (in my mom's handwriting). My parents gave us a few gifts as well, but most gifts were from Santa, including our stocking. One tradition was being able to open one gift (from parents) on Christmas Eve. DH doesn't really have any hard traditions that he wants to replicate so he just follows my lead.

    1) How far along are you? How big is baby? 36 weeks, papaya or a Chihuahua

    2) How are you feeling? Pretty good, getting bigger. Things are definitely a lot harder to do. You know, the basics – breathing, walking, not crying over everything. Trying to mellow out!

    3) Any appointments this week/last? I’m on the weekly appointments with the maternity clinic now – just the usual with the added bonus of the GBS swab, which was not a big deal. Happy to report that the baby is still head down and my blood pressure (which was an area of concern) is considered optimal at the moment. I had prenatal massage today and I had an emotional breakdown. I was in a half sitting position which caused my lungs to be more squished and I had major shallow breathing. I was kind of embarrassed, but the RMT told me that it happens all the time.

    4) How are baby preparations going? bainidhedub the fire just got lit here too. We spent all day (after the massage) prepping the baby’s stuff – boxes and boxes of stuff. Everything is washed and folded or stored for later. I’m so happy! I feel like he can come when he’s ready. All the babies being born (and mamas hoping for 2017 births) started to really affect my anxious brain.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions? I have read that movements slow down. Anyone else experiencing this? My babe is totally moving but I’ve noticed his movements are a little more muffled or only at certain times of the day…as I type this, he’s of course moving up a storm. LOL. STMs, please tell me your thoughts! xo

    6) GTKY - What holiday traditions did you grow up with, and do you want to do the same for your kid(s)? Is your SO in agreement? We left a big plate of snacks and lots of booze for Santa on Christmas Eve. Santa had the same wrapping paper from the time I was 2 until about 20. I’m not kidding. My mom got a whole bunch of beautiful paper way back and just kept it hidden,- only Santa’s gifts were wrapped in that paper. Mad props to her – we moved so much and she kept that hidden. She was also really good at calligraphy but we didn’t really know that until the Santa thing came out. His letters were magical. Santa gave us a nice stocking (that we were allowed to open before the adults woke up) and one big present. Mom and dad got us a big present too. So two biggies and a bunch of awesome stocking stuffers. We’re planning on doing the same. DH had the St. Nicholas thing on Dec. 6 as a child (and Santa too).  Essentially a boot filled with candy by a fella who is similar to Santa. We’ve been together for 15 years and I do St. Nicholas for him – it signals the start of the Christmas season in our house and launches the candy train. We’re excited to share these traditions with a wee one.

  • @ollydolly I love the wrapping paper thing, that's amazing that she kept it hidden, and had enough!

  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby?

    36 weeks, papaya

    2) How are you feeling?

    Tired!!!!

    3) Any appointments this week/last?

I'm on weekly appointments now =)

    4) How are baby preparations going?

We're ready to go!! Our bags are packed, our toddlers bag is packed, and the second carseat is installed!

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?

My husband is the best!!!!! He has been getting up with DS (who wakes up at 5am every day) and let's me get an extra hour or so of sleep!!! I feel so much better today than I did on Friday. Hopefully I can keep my energy up for the rest of the day and get some pre-christmas cleaning done!

    6) GTKY - What holiday traditions did you grow up with, and do you want to do the same for your kid(s)? Is your SO in agreement?

I got to open one present every Christmas Eve growing up but DH and I have decided to do a Christmas Eve box for our kids instead. We're going to put their matching Christmas PJ's in there, some hot chocolate mix, stuff to make smores, some fun Christmas socks, and maybe something small for them to play with that night in a fun little box for them to open that evening. I did it for DS this year and for my parents who are coming to stay with us! I put some bourbon in the adult boxes so they can have spiked hot chocolate instead but it should be fun!!! DH thought it was a great idea and helped me get everything together last night! I saw something about it on Facebook yesterday morning and decided to get it together last minute but we're definitely going to keep this tradition going!

  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby?

    34 weeks. A butternut squash.

    2) How are you feeling?

Pretty good overall. The swelling it still present but I doubt that will go away anytime soon. Just exhausted after almost everything I do (including eating).

    3) Any appointments this week/last?

Nothing until the 27th at this point. Then we may go to weekly appointments or I may have one more biweekly wait. Depends on how the appointment goes.

    4) How are baby preparations going?

We are all done. Car seat base is in the car, diaper bag is packed. Hospital bag is 95% packed (just waiting for the last minute things to pack up). Just waiting on the little man to get here now.

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?

Feeling pretty good right now. Nothing to really question at this point.

    6) GTKY - What holiday traditions did you grow up with, and do you want to do the same for your kid(s)? Is your SO in agreement?

We haven't really sat down and talked about it. When I was younger, we always set out cookies and milk for Santa and carrots and water for the reindeer. We also got to open one gift before we went to bed on Christmas Eve. Our gifts were also pretty split on what we got from Santa (and the North Pole in general) and what we got from our parents. Our biggest thing that we want to pass on though is just the family importance and being grateful for having all of the family around that we do.

  • 1) How far along are you? How big is baby?

    38 weeks (HOLY CRAP!!!)

    2) How are you feeling?

Miserable lol. SPD has gotten so bad. Hard to walk, get up and down, roll over, and omg, putting on pants is the actual worst. My right arm is still numb and tingly allll the time now, not just laying down. Heartburn is still keeping me up at nights. Feet and cankles and whole general leg and body is so so swollen!

    3) Any appointments this week/last?

BP has been fluctuating a bit and there was some trace proteins in urine but nothing to be immediately concerned with. Just monitoring for now and i have twice weekly NST testing and once weekly OB now. They said “good news” is now that I’m 38 wks if it goes to high, they just keep me and I have this baby. That freaked me out a little seeing as I wasn’t ready at all lol (procrastinator -_-)

    4) How are baby preparations going?

See above. Kicked my ass into high gear. A good friend came over with stuff for my Hospital bag. Another came over and helped me finish sorting and washing clothes and getting room ready. Crib is set up. Hospital bag is now finalized and IN the car. Car seat I ordered on BF finally came. Needs to be installed still but that shouldn’t take too long. Soooo, for the first time, i feel like I can answer this question as pretty done!!!! Woohoo!! Asspats for me lol

    5) Rants/Raves/Questions?

See #2 for all my rants haha

Question though... so at my next appt on Tuesday doc said she’ll check me and stir things up if I want (strip membranes) now that I’m 38 wks. Which if my body is ready will kick things in gear, and if not won’t do anything. Well DS has last day of school on Thursday with holiday program (which of corse I don’t want to miss) But I don’t know if I’d rather her come before Xmas (if possible - I know she’ll come when she’s ready) or don’t strip and then she may come on/near Xmas and I might miss that with dS which I would be so so sad. He’s 5 btw. And EDD is 12/30 so theoretically she may come after Xmas anyway. But she’s super low and I feel like she’s gonna come early. Anyway, what would you do/ “wish for” ??

    6) GTKY - What holiday traditions did you grow up with, and do you want to do the same for your kid(s)? Is your SO in agreement?

We agree on all the holiday stuff. His is a small tree in Kids room plus opening 1 gift Xmas eve. I like the idea of the box! May try that (next year haha). I always did milk, cookies, and carrots for reindeer. Stockings are from Santa and can be opened First in AM. One big Santa present is unwrapped (whatever he asks him for at the mall). The rest are wrapped from Mom and dad. Sometimes we wait until the family gets there later in the day to open those. Sometimes we just open in the morning. Bc they bring more anyway. This year we decided with expense and stress and time etc to agree on just a kids Xmas.

  • @witchwai I'll be 38 weeks on Wednesday (EDD 1/3) and go to the doctor on Thursday... I have made the decision (for now anyway) to not have them strip me until after Xmas and then I'm all in. I'm trying to make my appointment for the 26th/27th assuming I'm a "good candidate" for stripping/stirring. I guess even though I would like the pregnancy to be over symptom-wise, I want one Xmas (if I can) with just DD. I know if LO is here it will be exciting in its own way, but ehhhh... Not sure if that helps, that's just the choice I have tentatively made :)
