My former OB told us we could predict if baby was girl or boy by the fetal heart rate. Anyone have accurate (or inaccurate) results from this? So far, I’m 3 for 4 with fetal heart rates accurately predicting girls.
Baby's heart rate fluctuates wildly throughout pregnancy, but also time of day, so I have no idea how you'd know which one of those variations is the one you're supposed to go with.
DD was in the 170s usually and DS was in the 140s-150s. This one started higher and at my appt on Tuesday is was 156! We shall see in about a month!
BFP #1 October 2008 | m/c Thanksgiving weekend | November 2008 | 7 weeks 2 days BFP #2 February 2009 | m/c March 2009 | 4 weeks 3 days
Testing on mom and dad for possible reasons all came back normal.
BFP #3 8/4/2009 | DD born 3/28/10 @ 38 weeks
BFP #4 5/13/11 | m/c 6/15/11 | 8 weeks 6 days
BFP #5 2/13/13 | CP 2/19/13 | 4 weeks
BFP #6 3/21/14 | Heard the HB on 4/16 | m/c 4/21/14 | 9 weeks
Testing results all returned normal and baby was a GIRL.
More testing on mom and dad for other issues all returned normal results. BFP #7 10/15 | DS born 6/4/16 @ 36 weeks BFP #8 9/28/17 AHHH!!! | EDD 6/6/18
"Dear Lord, I would have loved to have held my babies on my lap & tell them about you, but since I didn't get the chance, would you please hold them on your lap & tell them about me?" All are welcome!
Wrong for both mine. DD heartrate was in the 130s and this one was 170s. We were told boy for this one (which I guess could be shown to be incorrect next month during the anatomy scan- but I always thought boy for this one.
My son always had a high heart rate. Even further along in the pregnancy when the heart rate should be a bit lower it was still typically 150+. So by the heart rate theory he should have been a girl I suppose. He is definitely a biological male though.
I know it is an old wive's tale--but I think some of them are entertaining while you're waiting to find out (if you take them as fun and not scientific fact). Anyone else have family members who would do the 'show me your hands' trick or the needle and thread over your belly? There's so many.
It made us all laugh because my Mom-Mom had 9 children---and accurately predicted the gender of every pregnant woman in our family. She was never wrong. No card tricks--no claims of supernatural powers. She was just a sassy old lady who told you what you were carrying. She would have been 99 this year and I am sure she would have guessed mine. She may have been a great guesser--but I think giving birth so many times helped her lol. .
@missylaneous419 That's crazy! My mom has a track record of being wrong 6 out of 6 times. There is a running joke in the family now that if mom guesses the sex of baby you know what it is because it's the one she didn't guess. She thinks I'm having a girl so probably a boy. Who knows though. Maybe this will be the first time ever that she is right.

Just want to add I don't think anyone is saying that using the fetal heart rate is a "scientific" way to predict the sex of the baby. Just a popular old wives tale that doesn't have to be taken too seriously
@NamelessAria that is great :-) Congrats on your boy! lol I have to ask my Aunt---I know she made over 30 predictions. After my cousin's ultrasound with her first, she announced she was having a girl. My Mom-Mom told her she was having a boy. She tried to politely argue that she had faith in the ultrasound. She gave birth to her first boy that December. Too funny. I wish that gift were passed on to me. Actually, I'd rather predict lottery numbers than baby gender.
My husband doesn't believe in old wives tales {boo-urns!} but the fetal heartrate has been in the 150s since week 7! So we'll see {3 weeks until we find out!! dyingggg}
