Babies on the Brain

Waiting Room Wednesday 12/6

I’ve never started a thread before so I hope this is ok! I changed the questions slightly to what was discussed last week.

***General TW that this thread might contain discussions mentioning MC and loss.***

Welcome to Waiting Room Wednesday!

You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on not TTC and connect with others who are in the same boat. TTC can be a long journey, and having to wait makes it feel even longer -- even if it is for a good reason. I invite you to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this like an ongoing conversation.

Benched = involuntarily not NTNP/TTC and "out of the game," usually due to medical reasons

TTA = avoiding pregnancy by using protection or FAM, usually for non-health-related reasons __________________________________________________________________

When do you think you will start TTC?

Any R/R?

GTKY: Are you related (even distantly related) to anyone famous?

Re: Waiting Room Wednesday 12/6

  • When do you think you will start TTC? Hopefully May/June 2018

Any R/R? We got the weird tapping noise from our wall (mostly) fixed! A motor in our furnace needs to be replaced and supposedly the sound from the motor was traveling 2 stories up to our bedroom wall... but the noise has stopped and I can sleep in silence again!

GTKY: Are you related (even distantly related) to anyone famous? My dad claims we are somehow distantly related (by marriage I think) to Lucille Ball from I Love Lucy, but we haven’t been able to trace the exact connection!

  • @dogmomma271 thank you for starting this!! I honestly forgot because today feels like Friday to me, which is sad because it's only Wednesday  :s   Also, TOTES JEALOUS OF YOUR (albeit potential) RELATION TO LUCILLE BALL!!!!!! I Love Lucy is like my favorite show ever!! DH and I (and by default DS) have been watching it this week actually, it's been a while since we have!

When do you think you'll start TTC?
    Probably around April 2018

R/R: I haven't been sleeping well lately (no effing idea why either...), so I'm just tired, lol.

GTKY: I'm distantly related to John Adams and John Quincy Adams!

  • @CecilB93 I wish today felt like Friday... definitely feels like a Wednesday. I haven't watched I Love Lucy in a long time but it is hilarious! :)

Question: Is anyone that is not currently TTC already taking PNV and/or stopping birth control?

My period has been weird the last few months, and it's usually very regular on the pill, so I decided to not take it this month and see if it will go back to normal. Debating whether to just stop taking it altogether (still using condoms) since we're thinking about TTC in late spring.

Also debating starting PNV after the new year since I don't regularly take a multivitamin anyway and have heard they're good to take even if you're not TTC. Just curious what others are doing to "prepare" in the months before starting TTC.
  • @dogmomma271 I stopped BC two years before actively TTC. I had been on it for over a decade for irregular periods (sometimes two in one month) and I wanted to see how my cycles were. Luckily, they were pretty regular. We used condoms until TTC. I also took PNV's for about 4-6 months in advance of TTC. I'm still on them because I'm currently BFing. I've heard it is good to get your folate stores in order months ahead of time, so I think your plan is a good one!

@CecilB93 I hear you on being tired. I could sleep all the time and still be tired! That's cool you are related to the Adams-es!

Question....does talking about kids require TW here? I'll use one today to be safe.

When do you think you will start TTC?
Not sure yet. Definitely not until the new year, and I'm thinking closer to DS's first birthday, which is in March.

    Any R/R?

    *TW...kids*

DS has had some raging constipation since really upping his solid intake (which is not a whole lot by any means...he has 2-3  1 ounce servings of something a day). Today I begged his pedi for a plan and now he's on daily Miralax. Poor kiddo. *End TW

Self-related, my busy workweek has seemed to calm down somewhat. I really need to get on Christmas shopping, but I don't know what to get ANYONE!

GTKY: Are you related (even distantly related) to anyone famous?
I don't think so. My grandpa used to be a sportscaster here in my hometown, so he's locally famous! Haha!
  • @dogmomma271 - While I'm currently trying, I stopped BC ten months before trying and started PNV at the same time. I saw this as a time to prep my body for pregnancy and get to know my cycles before actively trying. This let me get the BC weirdness out of my system and learn if I would have a more regular cycle. Like @Wishilivedinflorida, we used condoms and I tracked my cycles to avoid intercourse on fertile days. It's a great plan, as long as you and YH are on the same page about it!

  • @dogmomma271 I stopped BC after I was done BFing DS and we started using condoms. Mostly because I've had issues with irritability and depression in the past and I have to Ben careful with BC, after being pregnant and all those hormones, I figured I'd just stop for now at least. I started taking PNV a few months ago, our original TTC date was August/September. Then we had to push it back to November, but because of my cycle wasn't gonna be until December. But the finances caused us to push it back to April 2018 now...so I've been preparing for a lot longer than most, lol.

@wishilivedinflorida we haven't had complaints about no TWs on this thread re: kids, but I don't think it hurts anything to include it ;) I'm sure you've tried things, but have you given your son apple juice at all? That can help loosen things sometimes!

  • @Wishilivedinflorida @catlady2015 @CecilB93 Thanks for the input - that’s exactly what I was thinking. I’ve been on the pill for almost 10 years so I wanted to give myself some time to adjust to not being on it. Of course when I suggested to H that I was thinking of scaling back on birth control between now and the summer, his first thought is “Yay no condoms!” ...no dear, just the opposite.
  • @dogmomma271 I’m taking PNV now, mostly because I’m still nursing, but I started them a couple months before ttc last time. I have an implant now, so I’m not planning on pulling that goalie until we’re ready to start trying.

When do you think you will start TTC? May/June 2018

Any R/R? Had a great night out with friends tonight.

GTKY: Are you related (even distantly related) to anyone famous? I don’t think so.

  • We're actively trying now, but I'm also in the "stopped BC and started taking PNVs early" camp. We had originally planned to start when we got married, so I had my implant out two months prior. We ended up putting a hold on it thanks to some medical stuff, then financial/medical stuff. It gave me time to get my cycle sorted out and also get used to keeping an eye on my temps and everything.

@Wishilivedinflorida similar to what @CecilB93 mentioned, my suggestion in pear juice. DS had a lot of issues with constipation for a while. I would give him a couple oz of pear juice (baby stuff, so less sugar) and dilute it with a drop of water. A couple oz day for a couple of days always did it for us.

  • Thanks @kristah2 and @CecilB93.

Unfortunately, we’ve tried juices too. He is not a fan of drinking them, and they don’t work well either. Today is day 2 of miralax, so Fx it helps. He drank it in his morning bottle fine, but now this means I have to pump on weekends when I’m not working because he needs a dose every day.  He doesn’t really take much water or juice, he’s a BM addict. :/ How I hate the pump!

  • @Wishilivedinflorida what about prunes? I've also made prune puree or bought organic pouches that are just prunes. Also a great option!
*TW* I also found that when I switch to whole milk he became SO much more regular. He was getting so constipated before but since being on whole milk he goes about once a day.
  • @kristah2 Also did that. You can feed the kid straight prunes for days and he still won't go. It's awful. Luckily, he's much more regular this weekend after only a couple days of Miralax. I hate him having to be on medication (though it's only Miralax), but I'm so glad it's helping.
  • @Wishilivedinflorida glad to hear he's been doing better since starting the miralax! Hopefully he doesn't have to be on it long and his system adjusts more quickly to all the new foods.

  • @Wishilivedinflorida great news!! Nothing wrong with having to turn to medication for help once you’ve tried the other things! I’m so happy to hear he’s feeling a lot better!
who knows.. babies bodies change and adjust so much. Maybe you’ll end up with a poop machine like I did when starting whole milk! ;)
