  • @catlady2015 - Nooooo!!! I 100% agree with @Dilynne... PB is the bomb, and no chunks in jelly!!

@SkilledSailor - I've only ever had fake trees. I've been lead to believe by the media that real trees will catch fire and burn down my house...

My UO: The only acceptable flavor of candy cane is PEPPERMINT!!
  • @kimberbeep - YES!! any other candy cane "flavor" is an impostor and should be banned.

  • @Dilynne I have to agree! PB and no jam chunks!
I also usually only use fake trees - you can put them up earlier! Means more Christmas to enjoy!!

I think it is unacceptable for anyone to NOT have voicemail this day in age! How are you supposed to know I'm trying to reach you?!
  • @catlady2015 Peanut butter forever!! And jam with chunks is awesome!
@SkilledSailor I also have only ever had fake trees. I do agree that real ones are prettier.
@kimberbeep I absolutely hate peppermint. Or anything mint flavoured. I love the fruity candy canes!

My UO: I guess hating mint should be my UO. Even just the idea of mint chocolate chip ice cream grosses me out.

@Spylon I agree about mint chocolate chip. Just the thought of it makes me almost dry heave.
@kristah2 Like voicemails on your cell phone? I think voicemals are pointless. I see you called... no need to leave me a message telling me you called.

My UO: Fireball whiskey is the most terrible of all alcohols. This UO formed after being the only one who refused a shot of it last night.

  • @eleven_ and @matryoshkadoll I should have clarified.. I work in insurance and I often have to get a hold of people regarding their policies. Most people have no email on file, just phone numbers. I don't care to have to call people back repeatedly (when they very well could work the same hours I do, making it impossible to ever get an answer) when I could just leave a voicemail with the details I need them to know or provide back to me.
  • @kristah2 haha ok then I agree. For business it really does suck either not being able to leave a voicemail or not having someone leave one.

  • @eleven_ @Spylon *gasp* No mint chocolate chip ice cream? It's one of the best flavors out there!
@Dilynne Agreed, I hate it when jam has chunks in it. Ick!

AFM: I don't eat organic food and I think GMOs are awesome. I roll my eyes every time I see a product advertised as non-GMO.

@jrm_14 Yay for getting a gasp out of you! lol
@darkstar42 I'll just stick this here :) (ETA: You can eat whatever you want! Not trying to tell you not to to eat organic...you do you!)
In fact, organic farmers do use pesticides. The only difference is that they're "natural" instead of "synthetic." At face value, the labels make it sound like the products they describe are worlds apart, but they aren't. A pesticide, whether it's natural or not, is a chemical with the purpose of killing insects (or warding off animals, or destroying weeds, or mitigating any other kind of pest, as our watchful commenters have correctly pointed out). Sadly, however, "natural" pesticides aren't as effective, so organic farmers actually end up using more of them! Moreover, we actually know less about the effects of "natural" pesticides.

  • @darkstar42 Oh cool! I didn't know that about your brother. I've met a lot of people who think organic means no pesticides (and I used to think that too) so I just assumed that's what you had meant by your comment. My bad! And I don't want to debate it either, I hate debating.

  • @offtoneverland I totally agree that a lot of folks have no real understanding of organic. I think it's pretty awesome that you think critically about all this stuff and question popular opinions! *hugs* friend. :)
  • @offtoneverland - I love GMOs, too. I completely understand.
  • @offtoneverland @wishiwaspreggo I'm a hippie against GMOs but for reasons other than preferring organic (which I do). My biggest issue with GMOs is that they can be patented and companies can go after local farmers if they believe some of their patented product (read: seeds) has ended up on the local farm's land. It's BS. This is a hot topic for me.
  • @josie12367 My FIl mansplains things to me and I’m thinking, “Yup, I learned that from YouTube” or “yup, still going to do it my way.” Lol.
  • @SkilledSailor I've actually heard that that's a myth. Interesting article from NPR here. But I absolutely am not an expert in this area and I only know what I've read online, which obviously is not always true. :D I mostly just get upset at the non-GMO labeling. It makes it sound like GMOs are in everything, when really there are only a couple. I get so irritated seeing non-GMO labels on tomatoes or popcorn...there are no such thing as GMO tomatoes or popcorn! But yeah, your reasoning is valid if that truly is the case. That's a pretty crappy thing to do.
@josie12367 I absolutely hate confrontation so I hate debating! Plus I'm really bad at trying to make a point while I'm speaking (I'm much better when I can write out my thoughts).
@darkstar42 I missed it earlier, but I agree about chiropractors. Don't do it!

  • @offtoneverland There was a case on it (although the guy did do something sketchy) so there is a basis for companies to sue, they just often don’t because of publicity. Also the seed saving issue. I’m mobile so here’s a cursory article. I’m honestly against a lot of major companies acting like dicks and Monsanto is just on my sh*t list. I do agree the labeling of food is silly and largely arbitrary. I’ve taken several nutrition classes and was shocked to learn about the labeling laws. Only 70% of ingredients need to be organic for them to have “organic” listed on the packaging. Sneaky sneaky
