Re: FTM Check-In 12/7

  • How are things going? Good!

Appointments upcoming/recent? Appt with a new office/OB on Monday, and super looking forward to it!

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+?

GTKY: What's your favourite TV show? I love American Housewife! I feel like she's my soul mate sometimes. Criminal Minds is right up there, too.

  • How are things going? Pretty good!

Appointments upcoming/recent? Nada until Jan 5 (anatomy scan)

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+? Nope

GTKY: What's your favourite TV show? Currently airing....? I feel like these days I enjoy Shameless the most. I'm also really happy when Younger is airing... if we're talking past shows, then I need more time to debate this internally.
  • How are things going? good. I didn't have many 1st tri symptoms but now that I am nearing second tri I feel like I am getting all of them; headaches almost daily, more nausea, food aversions (just had a breakfast burrito that sounded amazing and is now making me want to vom) and gas pains. Thank god MH sleeps like a rock because I had some bad gas pains last night and when I could finally get a fart out it was in bed. I'm surprised he didn't wake up because that could have measured on the Richter scale.

Appointments upcoming/recent? Second appointment, first with the OB, on Friday! I really liked the OB when I met her to have my IUD taken out but now I've had some issues with the NP/practice so I hope she understands my frustration

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+? NATM, most of my questions go to the questions thread when I think of them

GTKY: What's your favourite TV show? the only show I watch live when it airs is This Is Us but I also binge on Scandal and Parenthood.

@izza2 MH and I love watching Criminal Minds together. We watched it last night! GL with your new OB!

    Dec 2020: Letrozole + TI - BFP!!! EDD 9/18

  • How are things going? Great - officially started second trimester today so I'm really thrilled about that.  My jeans are starting to get snug now and I'm silently wondering when I'll start to show.

Appointments upcoming/recent? My next appointment is 12/18 which is a follow up ultrasound with MFM to check on my SCH.

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+? Usually but I'll post them appropriately.

GTKY: What's your favourite TV show?  If it's all time, then Friends.  If it's currently airing, then I'll +1 on Shameless and also Game of Thrones even though it's between seasons atm.
  • How are things going? pretty good symptom wise, I realized a little while ago I'm actually feeling like me. I need to start working out. Emotionally the holidays have me all over the place. Just finished my last paper so I'm done with grad school until Jan 16. After next week things should scale back at work (no major deadlines until March).

Appointments upcoming/recent? Appointment on the 14th (in a week) nothing special. My doctor is considered a specialist (I don't need a specialist but I'm glad she is one, I love their policies) she does monthly appointments, although I went on the 1st due to spotting, so this is just my regular appointment.

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+?

GTKY: What's your favourite TV show? HTGAWM is my favorite currently running show
    Me:27 DH: 31 Married Since: 08/2016
    TTC: 08/2017 EDD: 6/11/2018 FTM
  • How are things going? Pregnancy wise, things are actually going pretty well. I still don't have a huge appetite, but all things considered, I'm feeling pretty well. Plus I'm officially in the second tri which feels so good! The main problem right now is watching the smoke edge closer to our house and listening to evacuation updates  :# FX we don't have to leave/our house doesn't burn down!!

    Appointments upcoming/recent?
Our next appointment is January 2nd and we should find out the gender then!

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+?  Not this week.

GTKY: What's your favourite TV show? DH and I are rewatching Seinfeld right now and it has to be the best show ever made!! But current shows? I agree with @ffw0617 HTGAWM is really the only currently airing show I watch. So many cliffhangers!!

  • @ffw0617 we have a friend who lives about an hour south who said we could stay with her. If it gets really bad, we can always drive to my inlaw's house in Phoenix. Really hoping it doesn't come to that.

  • @izza2 @krashke I loved Criminal Minds but stopped on Season 8. Might be time to start up again. For some reason it got too intense for me with the Reid/Maeve situation but I can handle all the demented serial killers?!

How are things going? So far doing pretty good but have lost a little weight. My friends say that’s common in the first trimester with the first if you lose your appetite. I either feel really full or starving so it’s been hard to moderate.

Appointments upcoming/recent? Next week is a check-in and NIPT. If this ultrasound goes well then I’ll feel comfortable telling all of our close friends around Christmas.

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+?   For STM - did you feel under or over informed during your first pregnancy? Do I really want all the gorey third tri details? Part of me just wants to be ignorant right now. There’s still lots of time to get informed right ;)

GTKY: What's your favourite TV show? Right now I’m bingeing First 48 and Storage Wars on Hulu.
  • @Amphibious22 You and everyone else in line of the fires are in my thoughts. Please, please be safe.

@glitterfingers I've been wondering the same thing, like, could this be a situation where ignorance actually is bliss? Especially when it comes to all things labor-related. We're on a very, very slow conveyor belt and there's nothing to be done about it now; we will have to go through it. I guess I want all the information that helps me be physically prepared and collect all the "stuff" I need, but I'm not sure whether I'm wired such that mental preparedness helps or hurts more!

@ffw0617 Glad everything's aligning to give you a little break from school and work, both! Enjoy it while it lasts.

    @becca_123 Congrats on 2nd tri :)

How are things going? Good. My energy is coming back up (I'm on thyroid medicine now so that may be helping), and I've officially got just one more week of work before Christmas vacation!

Appointments upcoming/recent? Just had our 2nd OB visit on Thursday and hoping to schedule an NT scan for this coming Friday. This past appointment was comforting but pretty uneventful -- I'll take it.

Questions for other FTMs, or STM+? Yes! Did any of you elect to do carrier screening, either before TTC or during pregnancy? Why or why not? It's not covered our insurance so would be a few hundred $$ out of pocket and, with no real red flags in my or DH's history, we're struggling with whether it's worth pursuing.

GTKY: What's your favourite TV show? Game of Thrones, for one more season at least! And for something off-air and light, Parks and Rec always.
  • @emiliadkay we did 23andme a few years ago and ran the raw data through promethease. I’m a carrier for hemochromatosis, but DH isn’t. Dh actually isn’t a carrier for anything except some weird thing that means he’s more likely to be gluten intolerant or something strange. We’re both half Jewish so we were mostly curious about tsachs. My doctor was completely fine with going by these results so we didn’t have to do pregnancy specific carrier screenings.
  • How are things going?
Still nauseated and still puking. It was better for a week or two but it’s back and I’ve been puking every afternoon/evening. Less than a week to go in 1st tri, so I’m hopeful I’ll be done with the n/v soon!!
    Appointments upcoming/recent?
12/11. On 12/5 we had the NT scan and all looked good. It was so cool watching her wiggle around. And she wouldn’t roll over for the longest time for the NT measurement- the tech had me rolling around and shaking my belly to try to get her to roll. Hilarious.
Questions for other FTMs, or STM+?
How does everyone find the energy and time to exercise. I tried about 3 min of some prenatal yoga on YouTube and the bending over made me puke. I am going to try to force myself to use my elliptical soon. And I may go swim some laps, but the thought of going all the way to the gym seems impossible!! (I leave for work around 7am and get home between 530&7pm (sometimes later) and just don’t know how to squeeze it in!)
GTKY: What's your favourite TV show?
I don’t watch much TV, but probably GOT because I do watch that. I’ve caught a few episodes of the the Curb Your Enthusiasm and it’s of course hilarious.
  • @bearmoons I have nothing helpful to suggest. Just here to say I am right there with you. I would love to try and keep weight gain to a minimum for health reasons. I am already above my ideal BMI but I almost laughed when the doctor added that exercise is important, not because I thought what she was saying wasn't true, but because getting up and going to work counts as winning these days. I've been on the same load of laundry for a week and when I do dishes, I feel like I deserve to high five myself. If it's not the nausea, gagging, exhaustion or headaches, it's the vaginal pain, sciatica or something else.

My doctor was really nice and not being pushy. Also said she's gives you a health pass for the first trimester because it really is just sometimes a survival thing when feeling so sick.

FX we are feeling wonderful enough to exercise and nest and stop puking in the next week or 2.
  • @bearmoons I don’t have any advice on the exercise. I managed to do some walking on the treadmill a few times but elliptical was a little too much for me.
  • @emiliadkay - As part of my blood work done during my first pregnancy I found out I'm a carrier for Cystic Fibrosis.  No one in my large family has it and I had no idea (my parents were stumped when I mentioned it to them).  Insurance didn't cover a test to see if DH had it, but we forked over about $700 to find out.  He's negative, so we're in the clear.

    Third Son - due June 9, 2018
  • @bearmoons I am just starting to find the energy. But my house is a mess from 2 consecutive months of barely cleaning/ DH's half ass cleaning. So I use most of my new found 2nd tri enery to clean. Yesterday I cleaned the master bathroom and washed the dishes. I've gone to yoga twice since my BFP. I find it easier to little exercises throughout the day. Like 10 squats every hour at work. Or walk the parking garage during my lunch break. I'm slowly trying to get better.

  • @glitterfingers and @amys614 had another appointment today, she told me to increase my diclegis. She also said that I can prioritize things for now- like hydration and food, and worry about a good exercise program when I feel better, but to not put it off if I'm feeling better.  So....as they keep telling me, I should feel better "in a couple weeks" which I've been hearing since 8 weeks, haha.
  • @doxiemoxie212 Who knew 23andme would come in so handy? My husband did that last year but I'm pretty sure he opted for only the ancestry stuff. Shucks.

@mytinc I'm so glad your husband tested negative! (Though I'm irritated on your behalf that insurance drew a distinction between your test and his, when they're obviously equal halves of getting a whole picture.) Your story tipped me into "I should just do this" territory and I'm feeling good about the decision, so thank you for the little push.

@emiliadkay you can easily upgrade it to the health. My mom originally only did ancestry but all she had to do was login, upgrade and all the health info was there.

ETA: but you still need to download the raw data and run it through promethease
  • @ffw0617 well, today we have to move our clinic upstairs, so maybe I can do some lunges/squats as I move boxes, haha! I'm a PA, so I don't really have an actual lunch break, sadly. But I am hoping soon I feel better and I can be better about walking all over the hospital and doing more stairs (I've gotten lazy and been doing the elevator if I have to go up more than 3 flights). And also go swim some laps. :)
