Re: WTF Wednesday 12/6

  • This lady in the building where I work, K,  has a super stinky candle. I think it's birthday cake scented, or something. Anyhoo, I have to pass by her office on the way to the water/ice machine, the kitchen, and the restroom. As you can imagine, I use them all pretty frequently.
The day I told my boss I was pregnant, I subsequently mentioned that the smell of K's candle was really making me queasy. She sent K an email, asking her to please stop lighting it, since it was bothering the both of us (she has issues with her breathing.) K promptly apologized and stopped lighting it. That was just before Thanksgiving.
Today, she has resumed lighting the stinky candle. I am still pregnant and my boss still has breathing issues.
    WTF?!?!?!?!

  • @kfren um no. No one should every light a candle or have any scented things of any kind in an office. I have complained before because a male co-workers cologne was too strong and I'm not high maintenance. Just be courteous of other people.

  • kfren - Check your handbook for a policy against it.  Any office I have ever worked in there is a policy against anything scented, technically even lotion...I can't imagine they would be cool with a lit candle being a fire hazard and all...
  • @kfren I work in a hospital, and so many people where soooo much perfume/cologne and it's just ridiculous. You should not have a 12foot cloud around you that stinks.
  • So two weeks ago I had to leave work early because I almost fainted during a surgery, I wasn't keeping anything down, etc. So I told the other doc I was working with that I was leaving before he'd get to clinic because my doctor wanted to me to come in. I told him I was pregnant, and to please keep it a secret. So far he has told my boss, her boss, and HER boss....and all the other urologists, and my work partner, who is the biggest gossip I know.  I just got back from a short vacation and literally the entire hospital knows now. I called him on it before I left, and he denied telling anyone, and then my work partner texted me and said "congrats! Dr. A just told me!" He is such a liar. He's in trouble when I see him tomorrow....
  • @bearmoons I would be PISSED.
  • @bearmoons whaaaat? I'd have a few words for him.

  • @bearmoons - oh hell no.  NOT OK
  • So can I just like.....not stand anymore? Like, every time I go to the grocery store or something and have to stand in line I get super effing light headed and feel like I'm going to pass out. I try to shift my weight around, etc., but it feels like I'm dying. WTF
  • OK jumping on the stinky office conversation... my office is small.... under 30 employees and we work in the basement of a 2 story office (basement and upstairs).  There is a fridge on each floor, but the one down here is where most people keep their food since it's where we work.  For the past week the fridge down here has reeked- like non- pregnant people are gagging going near it.  Someone left unpeeled eggs in a loose bag in the fridge.  WTF is wrong with people- who do you think is cleaning up the office behind you?!?

I have also worked in offices where people heat up left over fish frequently... just no.

  • @doxiemoxie212 - Ditto. If I stand for more than 5 minutes, I start getting lightheaded. I'm over it.
@jsl82 - It's appalling how people will leave the fridge/dishes at work! When I was at my second job a couple of weeks ago, our entire break room smelled like mold and vomit. It was disgusting. The fridge had already been cleaned out by the night shift, but there were at least 4 cups around the sink with old coffee, hot cocoa, and juice in them that were moldy and absolutely grotesque. And the dishes in the strainer that were "clean" were still dirty and had food particles on them.
I work with people with a mean age of 40. You'd think that at some point in the past 40 years they'd learn how to do dishes, and not to leave drinks in cups for weeks!

    Anyway.

My WTF today is at everything. Is that possible? My head hurts, the dogs are being extra obnoxious, SS is playing the "IDK how to do this" game, and I'm cold as frig.

WTF! Why is there not a single place to find doulas. Like there isn't an overall organization that I can go to and say show me all the doulas in MN. And how do you decide by just looking at their picture and bio.

Also, WTF is placenta encapsulation and why would you want to specialize in it?

ETA nvm you can go to DONA international and they have a search function. Their website wasn't coming up when I googled.

  • @krashke some people swear by eating the placenta. To each their own, seriously, but even if my doctor told me that was mandatory I would refuse. Nope nope nope.

  • Maybe for a very large sum of money I’d take those placenta pills but otherwise no way!

Work fridges get so gross. I used to work with a lady who would microwave fish for breakfast.  :s

  • I know tons of people who have had their placentas encapsulated and swear by it. They’re supposed to be amazing for ppd/ppa
  • *raises hand* I’m sure this won’t foment as a surprise to anyone, but I had my placenta encapsulated and it helped me tremendously
  • I watched a birthing documentary from the UK last time I was pregnant where a woman kept hers and cut off chunks and blended it into a smoothie  :s. And then in the same documentary another one kept the placenta attached to the baby for a while. She dressed it with herbs and carried it around in a cooler.

  • You want to talk about stinky? Try 20 some tween bodies in a classroom, including some with bad hygiene. I am so thankful for my Scentsy pot. When students complain that they don't like my current scent, I tell them It smells better than the smell they all leave behind in my classroom. I recently have only been turning it on when it gets bad bc it's a little much for me some days, bit before pregnancy, I had it on every day.
  • @Austenista ~ actually eating the placenta like that is a whole other level that I could never do. But taking it in pill form is just like taking a prenatal to me. I’ve heard of the smoothie thing and it makes me gag thinking about it. No thanks.
And that whole “waiting until the placenta detaches itself” thing, again. Whole other level of no thanks.
  • @Austenista keeping the placenta on until it falls off is called lotus birth. I went down a rabbit hole one day. No thank you.

  • Yes! WTF to everything today. My basement has water again. No idea where from, but it looks to be the same spot. Help me, if it is leaking from the 2nd new damn water heater, I will lose my mind.

People were driving stupid today, people at work were stupid today, the nausea is back with a vengeance along with the headaches and vaginal aches or whatever the hell this pain is. Rawr. WTF Wednesday
  • I encapsulated my placenta and the LC I met with postpartum (while having milk production issues) told me to stop taking the pills because they could impact milk supply.  I won't be doing it this time.
  • Placenta consumption is definitely not for me.  I just read an article on TB the other day how studies are now showing that there’s no difference in women who took the real deal vs a placebo.  The other thing I have always wondered is how people can say it helps with PPD and such because there’s no way to know if they would have even gotten PPD without it.  Even if they had PPD with a previous pregnancy, it doesn’t mean that they would again.  To each their own.

One other (nasty) thing I remember is with DD somehow it came up with my delivery nurse and I was joking about how I didn’t need a doggy bag.  She was saying how so many people do not even think about how most women poop when pushing and as much as theu clean you quickly...the contamination potential is real.
