GTKY: Gift Ideas for SO

Alright everyone... what’s Santa putting in SO’s stocking? And what are you getting them for Christmas from you?

Re: GTKY: Gift Ideas for SO

  • Stocking:
    —Fender guitar picks
—A hook to hang his guitar on the wall
—Ball end hex keys—something about making it easier to deal with the crib
    —a plane Christmas ornament ((tradition))
—new case for the Hero Session because ours is cracked
    —new camera lens protector
    —dashboard magnetic phone clip
    —Snoopy ornament ((tradition))

We aren’t doing big gifts this year because we have gone on family vacations instead.
  • Loading the player...
  • Saxx underwear. They are the "Victoria Secret of men's undies". I got them a couple years ago for a Christmas or birthday and he has requested them multiple times since. They are pricey but apparently so comfy. You can find a pretty good deal on Amazon. We actually found some at Nordstrom Rack for cheap the other night as well. That's all he's getting. We are going on our babymoon right after Christmas through New Year's so that is our Christmas this year!
  • @npkat now I’m going to check that on Amazon!
  • @mdfarmchick There are a few different styles. He likes the Vibe

  • We're kind of lame and just make Amazon wish lists for Christmas, so I just buy whatever he has on his list. :|  This year it was a new Nest cam (which will actually be our new baby monitor) and an internal solid state drive for his computer. He does a lot of mining for cryptocurrency and stuff like that so he always wants new computer stuff. I'll probably try and find one other big present since the Nest cam is pretty much just a baby thing, haha.

For his stocking, he'll get a chocolate orange in the toe (his favorite candy), and probably some more chocolates thrown in there. Usually a new bottle of cologne, some beard grooming stuff, and a few airplane bottles of booze. I saw a Jerky Cane on the Man Crates website that I might throw in there too - a plastic candy cane tube filled with beef jerky bites in fun flavors.

  • Let's see.  An Amazon Dot and smart plug.  Star Wars undies.  Two Resistance-type shirts.  Three pairs of shorts.  A family ornament (also a tradition).  Two canvasses of him with the boys.  A toothbrush.  A piano tuner that GDI I forgot I bought until just now.  And a welding kit that was way too expensive but I know he really wants.

  • What cologne do you buy your SO’s? DH has been wearing Antonio Bandaras Blue Seduction for 5 years now. I’d like to get him something new to try
  • @Gingermom15 Davidoff Cool Water. Lol. He’s been wearing since before we started dating. So probably a decade.
  • @Gingermom15 I buy him Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb. It's a little pricey but it's pretty strong - one spray and he's good for the day, so a bottle usually lasts him all year.  It's a warm, musky, sexy kind of scent. ;)

  • I got him a Ninja Coffee Bar, I got a pretty good deal (I think) at Kohl’s. $68 I want to say?! May also get him a Yeti coffee mug or a mug from Shutterfly from the kids. Although they want to get him sports themed dress socks, we will see!
  •  I am getting him a new tool kit as his present. And in his stocking I am doing some coffee, chocolate, and a dvd.
  • @Gingermom15 Chrome Legend  <3

@JBcakes08 yes, but apparently worth it! But that’s why he only gets them on special occasions. We did see them at Nordstrom Rack for $18 the other day!
  • Here are a few items I get DH or have gotten in the past:
    • Nice sweaters for work in tall sizes - DH needs Large Tall - which is hard to track down.  I found some at Land's End a few years ago that he loves to wear to work in the winter.
    • Game of Throne Ornament
    • Sour Patch Kids
    • Photo Mousepad for his desk at work (Coscto has very reasonable ones)
    • Bluetooth Earbud - he requested this so he could listen to podcasts at work without it being obvious ear buds
    • Cookies
    • Books - he had an Amazon list going for this, but occasionally I read an article and there is a book mentioned or referenced I think he'd enjoy (he likes nonfiction - boring :P)
    • Portable Charger - used surprisingly often
    • Google Cardboard - Cheap Virtual Reality Headset
    • Ozark Trail/Yeti/RTIC tumbler - keeps coffee hot forever!
    • Raspberry Pi
    • Legos (I got him a Mini-Cooper set a few years ago, that I'm pretty sure was the best gift I've ever gotten somebody)
Guys, I just checked out DH's Amazon Wish List and there is a 10-key calculator on there.  What an accounting nerd!  :D

  • I am getting my SO a Doug Gilmour Maple Leafs jersey. It was his favourite player as a kid, and hes a diehard Leafs fan. Also, being where I am from, we are trying to get it autographed.
  • Hubs got a new pair of Under Armor shoes, the The Rock ones, and he got some nice Bluetooth earbuds, some more work out clothes, a new phone case. A lot of his stuff centered around athletics this year because he’s really gettin into weight training and all that.
  • DW's getting the videogame-themed USB hub she asked for (it's a light-up starcraft Pylon, lol), and an electric massager (which is really a gift for both of us since we both suck at back massages). And some cute socks. We're going pretty minimal this year.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I'm making him a quilt. Christmas is also his birthday, so I'll have to think of something else. I'm kind of at a loss this year.
  • I ordered him some stuff from J Crew on Cyber Monday, and I'll probably get him some more clothes...the man loves clothes but hates shopping so he rarely takes the time to get stuff. I'll also probably get him a new belt for his fave belt buckle because somehow his old one is too big?? There's also a few books that I'll get him, too.

For cologne DH wears Brooks Brothers and it smells sooooo nice. He doesn't wear it to work so I always get excited when he spritzes it on!
  • On the cologne front DH normally wears either Tommy (old school) or Polo-I think Polo Blue is my personal favorite :)

For Christmas presents we normally go pretty minimal so the majority of the gifts under the tree are the kids.  Stocking's are normally candy, a couple of DVD's, an orange in the toe (tradition) and for him any little fun cooking things I can find like spices because he likes to experiment in the kitchen.  I got him a mini cobbler kit last year that came with a little pan and he absolutely loved it and uses that little pan all the time to make himself a personal sized cobbler so I'm looking for something just as fun this year.

Our presents to each other are normally "experiences".  Last year I got him expensive Roger Waters tickets for when he came to Pittsburgh to play in September.  He was so excited and then had to wait 9 months haha.  This year he's already bought himself/us tickets to 5 Penguins games (went to one already, one is Thursday and the rest are in February) so that's basically his gift.  His birthday is also the 14th and he's really been into working out and fitness recently so he's getting workout themed gifts for that.  The kids normally get us something small, with DD in Kindergarten this year her school has a Christmas shop and today is the shopping day actually so she'll get him something there and I'll take DS out to get him something small too.

  • This is a great topic!
DH has been talking about taking guitar lessons but his guitar got beat up in our last move, so he needs a new one. I plan to get him a gift certificate to a shop that offers lessons so he can pick something out. For under the tree I was thinking the hook to hang it and his banjo on the wall. and put some picks in the stocking. We'll be at my mom's house and she'll do the stockings.

  • This baby. That's what he's getting for a late Christmas gift. lol

No but in all seriousness, we decided we are going to take a date night in the next few weeks before Christmas and each have $100 to spend on ourselves and just pretend that we bought each other the gifts. And then we'll have dinner and go home and drink cocoa and watch Christmas movies. It's our last Christmas as just us so we both agreed to this tradition now. I don't know, it just sounds more fun. And it avoids the awkward gifts you get that you don't really need. (Which my DH is famous for doing every year, lol)

  • Thanks everyone about the cologne suggestions. I’ll go sniff some it this weekend!

We don’t buy for ourselves or each other all year, and he’s been working mandated overtime for weeks. I got a lot more this year for him than I usually do, but he deserves some updated things.
I got him an Xbox one S on Black Friday which was the biggest thing. A good beard care kit, a new watch and wallet, a belt, several of his favorite flannel shirts, new undershirts, a personalized keychain with our son’s picture and initials, a tablet and a sturdy back scratcher. In his Christmas Eve box I’m putting new pajamas, his favorite tea and apple cider K-cups with a sweet treat and a new mug, summer sausage and crackers. Maybe a movie or small book
We also each pick out an ornament for the tree each year.
  • New TV for the man cave. DH has been "needing" a new one so the Geek squad will be surprising him on December 23rd. I'm still looking for little stocking stuffers for him.

  • @Gingermom15, I love the idea of Christmas Eve boxes.  I really want to do them.  Maybe next year!
***March '18 October Siggy Challenge: Halloween Costume Fails***

  • We decided just to fun stockings this year. We went all out last year but I am putting my foot down on our budget this year. I was going to get him a record player to hook up to the killer Bose Bluetooth speaker I got him for his birthday but oh well. The vet bill kind of finalized this plan. Booo for being grown ups.

  • My husband is so hard cause he buys everything he wants & I have to think about a bday gift to for this month.

Im thinking of getting him a few bottles of really good wine (we’re winos), massage, possibly Jay Z concert tix (if I can figure out a babysitter), clothes...
