MoMs (Mothers of Multiples) weekly check-in - 11/28

Since we've had a couple moms deliver this past week (@mudge85 and @ecolton01) I hope they can still check in and say hi!

How far along are you? What size are the babies?

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?

How are you feeling?

What rants/raves/questions/advice?

QOTW: What was your favorite/most interesting/entertaining part of this past holiday weekend?

Re: MoMs (Mothers of Multiples) weekly check-in - 11/28

  • How far along are you? What size are the babies? 31w5d....twins are about the size of butternut squashes (how appropriate!)

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? None last week; ultrasound and OB appt on Friday. Very interested in finding out how big the babies are....they feel HUGE in there and love tormenting my rib cage

How are you feeling? Huge and tired. This weekend we had some family stay with us, and if i had the chance to go back in time, they wouldn't be staying with us. No drama or anything, but mentally and physically exhausting.

What rants/raves/questions/advice?  I'm having more and more pressure in my pelvic area (especially when walking), but no cramps or pain. I have general aches and pains all over my front and lower back, but i don't think any of it are contractions, since it's consistent and not coming in waves like contractions are supposed to. Most of the larger movements that the babies do cause braxton hicks (i think?) but they don't usually last for more than 10 seconds, so i have no clue. All i know is that it's pretty much uncomfortable 24/7 at this point. Looking forward to seeing what my doc says/advises when i see her on Friday...

QOTW: What was your favorite/most interesting/entertaining part of this past holiday weekend?
Food at Thanksgiving dinner was mostly good. We went to my SIL's in-laws house, so there was some "new" foods that i wouldn't have thought to have at a traditional turkey day dinner.....lol (ex: they had a bowl of quinoa and cranberries, and called that "stuffing/dressing" and didn't have any of the "regular" kind...sadness!) Also, on Saturday, SIL and MIL took me to Buy Buy Baby and bought a lot of the stuff still on the registry that DH and I will need pretty much asap (Left the other stuff that won't be used asap - like an ergobaby carrier - on the registry cause we know a lot of people will be buying things once the twins are born) so that was nice to be able to "fill in the holes" of baby/nursery stuff that we still needed...

Last week i just had a cervical check ultrasound and it looked good.. i was measuring 34wks at 24wks..just seems a little scary..
    How are you feeling?
Pretty much the same, but exhausted..it seems like im back to feeling tired as i was in the first trimester.
    What rants/raves/questions/advice?
Not today maybe later in the week..
QOTW: What was your favorite/most interesting/entertaining part of this past holiday weekend?
i really just enjoyed being with family..

Wow! I cant wait for the updates from @Mudge85 and @ecolton01 as ive been watching all the birth boards every day and never seen anything about them having their twins..
@caseyw8784 let us know what your dr says on Friday.. ive heard that twin labor can be totally different from a single..
  • I want to hear about @Mudge85 and @ecolton01! My theoretical due date was 1/2, so I thought I'd go first, but I'm still plugging along.

35&1, modi twins who feel enormous, couple of honeydew melons.

At my OB on Monday, we confirmed that we'll induce or have a c-section on 12/11, unless I go into labor sooner.

And I feel rough! Which leads me to think I may go into labor. My lower belly has expanded all of a sudden, with stretch marks and burning skin, and I can't sit without squishing my belly against my upper thighs. I feel pressure on my cervix whenever I'm upright. And I'm ready!

I was lucky over the holiday-- my parents were okay driving down to visit (we usually have dinner at their house, but I couldn't handle the 45 minute drive).
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • @ecolton01 i think your post got cut off? Im so sorry for your loss and your eventful week. How are they doing? How much did they weigh?
  • @caseyw8784 how did your appointment go today?
  •  Looks like it did Patrick was 4 lbs. 8 oz. and Maverick was 3 lbs. 14 oz. Maverick had a rough start as his long collapsed last Friday but they got it reinflated with her chest tube and it appears to have healed They are now just on oxygen and feeding tube until they can learn how to suck

@momma6angels11 - the appointment went ok today.

the good: both babies are head down now, and the girl is REALLY low, so that's what all the pressure is. The rest of the "aches and pains" are just from having 9 pounds of baby in there! Doc did the strep b test and also checked my cervix to see if things were progressing, but she said is was high and closed, so all-in-all, no pre-term labor yet. Just silly braxton hicks and the babies who keep kicking me in the rib cage and organs that make everything hurt. Their heart beats and organs and everything looked really good too.

the not (yet) "bad": when they measured the babies 4 weeks ago, the boy was 3lb 1oz and the girl was 3lb even...so, only a 1 oz difference. Today, the boy measured 17% (14 oz) larger than the girl, so there's a 3 week discrepancy between the 2 now. He's in the 87% percentile but she's in the 57% percentile (so she's still at least "average" size...)
Doc has now started me on weekly ultrasounds and biophysical profiles to monitor it, and in a week or two if it looks like she's not growing but the boy is, they'll send me to a MFM for a more detailed exam, and that report will determine if they will induce me then or let me try to wait it out to 37 weeks. we are at 32 weeks now and the babies are weighing 4lb 15oz and 4lb 1oz, so if they induce me at 34 or 35 weeks, my doc seems to think that they will fare pretty well. she did give a decently lengthy speech about all the scenarios and risks, etc, so of course my over-active imagination is on hyper drive tonight...oy.
At least i only have to wait until friday for more answers and (hopefully) piece of mind The following week I also have the first NST, so that'll be interesting as well!

@Mudge85 and @ecolton01 - thanks for updating us on everything! I'm so glad that the babies are all doing well at the moment, and hopefully will be a short nicu stay! @ecolton01 - so sorry for your loss and stressful week! :anguished:
  • @caseyw8784 i hope your ultrasound goes well next week and that she has gained a bit more weight to even them out some. I hope you relaxed your mind last night and didnt stress anout it..

Thanks for updating us @Mudge85 and @ecolton01!!

So i guess it looks like there is only 2 more( @KLake42 and @caseyw8784 to have their twins and then ill be the only one in this group?? I hope that you both will update when that time comes..
  • @caseyw8784 I would worry about that disscordinance . With all of my extensive monitoring they didn’t start to get really concerned until 25% ... and I’m not real confident in the accuracy of their weights . I know @Mudge85 weights were off . Mine were supposed to be 3.12 and 3.15 ( per the last visit 2 days before they were born ) and they were 3.14 and 4.8 .

@KLake42 you are so so close !! I hope your babies get to come home with you , since I am sure you are beyond miserable that should be your reward :)

@momma6angels11 I think we all measured about 10 weeks ahead and it was miserable : hang in there and know that’s it’s normal but doesn’t make it less terrifying whatsoever . !! I was way bigger then when I delivered DD and I was only 32 weeks ... and congrats on viability!! Such a huge milestone
