I'm at the lab right now and this poor little boy is having a serious tantrum/ meltdown over having his blood drawn. It may be the single largest public meltdown I've ever seen. 3 nurses and his mom are holding him down at this point.... poor kiddo. wish there was something you could say or do to help them understand that it's not going to hurt
@mdfarmchick ah, how stressful with your cat! I hope she finds her way back to you soon. I always see lost pet posts on Facebook, but imagine you've already pushed through social media to no luck. Fingers crossed for you.
@bb3vj3n omg that reminds me of when I had to get a penicillin shot when I was 2. (Yep, I remember it, VERY clearly.) I’d gotten strep 3 times in a year and was too little to have my tonsils removed. My mom said all of a sudden I realized there were too many people in the room and flipped out. Took 3 nurses and my mom to hold me down and she just kept saying “It’s ok baby” in my ear. My brother (who was 4) thought they were killing me. I still cry sometimes when I get shots or my blood drawn. I hope he isn’t too traumatized!
Thanks everyone, my little lady is at the vet being sedated at this very moment. She is the worst animal at the vet, she attacked and peed everywhere and that is while I was with her. Lots of labs and tests and about $500 later we may know what we need to do. I am beyond stressed, I can’t help thinking that’s she thinks I just abandoned her. But now I’m at work trying to act like a normal person but I now have a much greater appreciation for Angela on The Office.
@bb3vj3n my son did that at his 8 yr old well check. It took me and 2 nurses to hold him down and another to give the shot. He tried to kick one and was crying. My poor daughter was 3 and still talks about it.
here i am wishing these results would post FASTER. I know i know.... these labs are processing and posting so many results for so many people and my results are not any more important than those of anyone else.... but in so freaking impatient! I just want to know if I passed this glucose test or not!!!
I am so sad that the nov bmb didn’t have very many birth announcements. That’s my favorite thing to read. I hope December bmb birth announcements is busier. It’s exciting to read about the babies being born.
Are Girl Scouts still wrapping gifts? I just wrapped birthday presents and it’s shameful. Even at 35 years old and 15 years into motherhood I still suck at wrapping gifts. My google search came up short.
@ShawnnaO I will feed anyone Girl Scout cookies to wrap my gifts for Christmas. I don’t really care if the job is bad. I just don’t want to personally be disappointed by shitty attempt and feel like a total wrapping failure.

Mastitis, the baby being underfed, latching issues, nipple pan, engorgement, milk pimples on your nips that have to be squeezed....I'm getting serious anxiety over here. I was adopted therefore not breastfed and I turned out fine. I just don't know what to do.

If you have a pretty good support system all of those concerns can be handled quickly and without too much trauma. You are doing the right thing by informing yourself, but don’t get startled by some of the things that can (and may never) go wrong. Also, breastfeeding isn’t an all or nothing thing. You can do a combination, all, or minimal. You will figure out what’s best for you and your baby.

Doing formula plus BF can cause issues with supply also leading to those issues. I guess I need to see a lactation consultant. They have them where I am giving birth but they come around right after the baby is born and follow up with you. I may see if I can take a class and ask all about all the stuff I'm reading.

@muggle621 Do you know if the hospital where you're delivering offers a BF class? Mine does, and it's on my list of classes to take. I think I'm sort of glad I haven't started researching that yet based on your post. Milk pimples? I have enough normal pimples, I don't need milk ones too!
Oh man, so much info and not many solutions offered to you at this point. I get pretty timid about offering my advice or insight about breastfeeding, because it can be such a personal journey for each woman, but I really disagree with the not pumping too soon and fearing an oversupply. With my first, I did not establish a large enough to supply to counteract the regulation of hormones that eventually happens to most women. As a result, I nursed and pumped with my second. This allowed me to establish a healthy supply and also start a freezer stash. As she got bigger and ate more, I produced less in the pumping sessions. When my hormones regulated and my cycle started again my supply took another hit and I was producing only enough to successfully breastfeeding her. Just my personal experience, it’s easier to deal with more milk than try and get your body to start producing more. You do have to be very diligent about nursing and pumping those first few months, but it all evens out eventually. You do have to recognize the warning signs if mastitis, but being diligent about emptying your breast most sessions will greatly eliminate that threat. I have a lot more personal and anecdotal experience to share, but I promise it’s worth a try if you think it’s the right thing to do.

I do think I'm going to take a class and keep reading but other than that I'm just sitting here scared like you, waiting to see whether it's something I can handle or not.
@DDRRT1982 Totally agree. I started pumping about once or twice a day right when I got home from the hospital so that DH could help with night time feeds. I wound up with little bit of an oversupply and a pretty good freezer stash while on maternity leave. Which worked out perfect because like yours, my pumping output decreased between returning to work, getting my period again, baby starting solids around 6 mos, etc. I wound up needing my freezer stash for DH to use while I was at work.
And @muggle621, a lot of the other stuff you mentioned doesn't happen to everyone. It's good to know what to do in case it does... but I wouldn't fear breastfeeding because of mastitis or milk pimples or whatever. I had some nipple pain the first couple weeks while we figured out DS's latch but really none of the other stuff you listed.

@muggle621, obviously fed is best. But I wanted to just encourage you with breastfeeding. I'm not going to lie and say it was a walk in the park. I struggled with a massive oversupply with my son. Which is not something I like to complain about because I know how many women struggle with an under supply and I don't want it to come across as me "bragging". There are challenges with both.
BUT, I did want to encourage you. Breastfeeding can be very challenging, especially in the beginning. But if you WANT to continue, and you have a good support system surrounding you, it gets SOOOOO much easier over time. I ended up nursing my son for almost 18 months and only stopped when I did because of a medication I had to take that I couldn't nurse while using.
Yes, a lot of the things that you mentioned CAN happen when breastfeeding. But that doesn't mean that they all WILL happen. I struggled with oversupply for the first few months, and DS had a poor latch so the first few weeks were especially challenging. But I never experienced mastitis, or many of the other things that you mentioned.
This post isn't meant as a RAH RAH BREASTFEEDING post...but I just wanted to encourage you that the "horror stories" you hear about, don't happen to everyone
@muggle621 I actually plan on pumping way earlier this time bc it was hard for me to produce enough, I had to supliment with formula and honestly I wish I had added formula into the mix earlier! I was so obsessed with making breastfeeding work and was scared a bottle would make my supply go down even more but at the end of the day it's a learning curve and you have to do what's best for you and your baby, so I think whatever you decide to do will be just fine, esp since you are so open to both!
@muggle621 I am also nervous about the entire BF process. My mom tried to breastfeed me but ultimately have up after 2-3 weeks of under supply and extreme pain. I'm going to try... but i also feel so uneducated about the whole process. it might be cheesy - but i signed up for a breastfeeding course (its just one day) to learn more and I'm really looking forward to it. Maybe you could find something similar offered in your area?
at the end of the day, I'm not putting any pressure on myself to nurse. if I'm successful - AWESOME.... but if I'm not, I'm ready to accept that also.

I like this a lot. I feel like keeping an open mind is important if BFing is something you want to try. (Speaking from experience here - I put WAAYYY too much pressure on myself to BF and was crushed when it didn't go as expected. Don't be like me! - Much easier said than done in hindsight though.) (And FWIW I think keeping an open mind is important when you are thinking about what kind of birth you want and what kind of parent you will be - things don't always go to plan...)

This is super rqndom, and not pregnancy or baby related in ANY way. But, do you ever see your pet dreaming and wonder what on earth is so significant that they dream about? My dog was just going wild in her sleep. Woofing, whining, running...and I'm thinking, I don't even do that when I dream. What are you dreaming about??
@kalawa, YES!!!! Sometimes I look at my cat and I'm like "what is she thinking right now?" LOL! And then I'm like "I'm sad...because I want to know about my cat's thoughts" lol
I've been MIA for so long! I was soo sick all of last week into this week and just didn't get on the computer. FINALLY feeling better and DH has off work today so we are planning to get our Christmas tree and just relax at home! I found a breastfeeding course at my hospital!! Signed up for January. After reading your responses I think (assuming my milk comes in etc) I am going to try pumping and BFing from the get go. I already have tons of formula samples from my neighbor I can use if I need to supplement. I told myself I wouldn't pressure myself to BF so I'm going to *try* to chill out about it a little bit before I have a panic attack.

@kalawa My husband and I talk about dog dreams oddly often since our puppy runs in place and makes the funniest sounds every single night as he sleeps. We hypothesize he fantasizes about running through fields of laundry and biting on clothes at will.
@kalawa yes over here, too! Our dog does that a lot too, and I never know if she's chasing squirrels and having a great time in her dreams or having nightmares! I tell myself it's the squirrels so I don't wake her up haha

He offered them to us, and I figured we won't be able to do this sort of thing much longer so we jumped at the chance! I can't wait!
This could probably go in the easily annoyed thread, but I didn’t feel like searching it for tbh. I’m a massage therapist at a small spa, and my boss sent an email last night suggesting that for our holiday party we could draw names and exchange services. Maybe I’m an ass or it’s because I’m pregnant but I have zero desire to come in on my day off and massage a coworker for free as our “holiday celebration.” Like get a freaking Chick-fil-a nugget platter and some cider and I’ll be a happy camper.
@ksmwalters I agree with you that it is annoying. It’s a cheap way for the boss feel like you’re having a party even though it really is not one. Hopefully a lot of you give a negative response to that.
