Ever wonder if you aren't noticing something totally obvious about your kid?

So a friend of mine just emailed me that she took her dd to a pre-school for an interview and the director asked if she had the dd evaluated for her leg turning in.

I noticed that her leg turned in since about the time she began walking, I figured she had talked to the pedi about it and it wasn't my place to say anything.  Her email is all shocked that she didn't notice and now she feels guilty etc.  (she said she did talk to the pedi about it at her 12 month check up but not since then)  I'm suprised that she never noticed it.

It just made me wonder if there is something different about N or wrong with her that I am not noticing.

  • Yes, I think about this all the time. I make myself crazy with all the things that I think I never noticed before but luckily DH usually corrects me and reminds me that we've talked many times before about those concerns.

  • Well, considering neither DH or I noticed her flat head until she was 2 months old, I can see it. I'm sure we won't notice something else. And considering how flat it is, it was shocking that we didn't notice. No one said anything, but I'm not surprised considering I'm not real approachable like that.

But now I'm obsessed so I guess it evens out.

  • All the time! Estelle is waving now and she's been doing it for a few weeks and I just thought it was some random weird baby thing. But then one day while we were out, E & I were sitting in the car and DH was on the phone on the sidewalk and he waved at her and she lifted her little arm up and waved back! I felt so bad that I had been ignoring that instead of encouraging it!
  • my mom is having major guilt over this now, as we are in the process of getting my 14 year old sister diagnosed with High Functioning Autism or Aspergers. And of course going thru this with the family is having me be super critical over my own children.

  • I guess I am the opposite.  I think I am overly critical.  It bugs me though when people comment about his eye.  I noticed it when he was born.
