@SkilledSailor I think themed nurseries are cute! Themed houses can be over the top though for sure. I have been getting so many ads for celebrity holiday cards this year (probably because I spend too much time reading celeb gossip) and it is super annoying.

AFM, I don't really like Christmas music (::ducks::) I enjoy it on Christmas Eve/Day, but I get irritated when it is playing in every store and on radio stations and it is only November,

*edited because I have not had enough caffeine yet and can't spell.

  • Maybe we can wait to report after getting a little flaming in? That may sound mean, but this mornings drive-by got me really worked up.
  • @mrs_drc_rn I struggled with dark chocolate as well lol. I can accept it more if it comes with almonds.

  • @jsnakehole If I recall, you’re Jewish and celebrate Hanukkah?  I’d send her a giant menorah card.  I’m the asshat that send Happy Holidays cards to certain people, too.
@catlady2015 Elaborate, please. Pictures on holiday cards are too much, too?  You’re against any picture on a card?
@spylon @mrs_drc_rn Lindor Dark Chcolate Truffles. Go. Buy. Now!  I don’t like most whites chocolate as it is not chcolate. However, authentic, FRESH white chocolate in Belgium is so good. It doesn’t even compare.
  • @jrm_14 mmmm Belgian chocolate. I went to Belgium when I was in middle school as part of a student ambassador program and all my mom wanted was for me to bring her back some chocolate. I forget how many candy bars I bought, but I think maybe half a bar made it back.  :# Also, Gertrude Hawk has these really delicious salted dark chocolate caramels! So good!
  • @jrm_14 - no, not any picture on a card, it's the family photo that gets turned into a christmas card. going to sound super old, but that's not how holiday cards were done when I was younger and I like the old-school card tradition.

  • My UO is that i think the TV show "this is us" is mediocre and over-rated.  Everyone at work loves it, and i just think it's predictable and over the top.  I'm a monster, and i'll be watching downton abbey reruns if you need me.
  • @jengibre_zorro I agree with you. I think the acting is terrible. Maybe it's just Mandy Moore that ruins it for me.

  • @lurvleybunchococonuts - YES about the war on Christmas! It's so silly. Christmas is *every*where. Just because someone prefers to say "happy holidays" it doesn't mean that Christmas is going away. If anything, the Christmas blitz has gone supernova. Everything is aggressively festive. We have Christmas events lined up every weekend in December - and that's just in our town.

Respecting someone else's religious beliefs and traditions will have zero impact on your own. Good grief.
  • @lulu1180 Now there's a compromise I can get behind!

  • @lulu1180 You & MH both. AFM, ALL THE CHOCOLATE CHIPS.
  • The whole war on Christmas thing drives me nuts.  First off, saying happy Holidays is appropriate, even for a Christian, considering there is a 2nd holiday a week later!

In the same spirit, I hate when people go on like to can't pray in school or have a Bible.  It's ridiculous. TW, my daughter's old PUBLIC school had a moment of silence for prayer or reflection every morning after the pledge.

  • @holly321 I think quiet reflection in school is good- there's a big push for mindfulness in education now (also I'm not opposed to anything that requires more quiet). Prayer is inappropriate in a public school, though.

Benched due to deployment- Off the bench 8/8/17!

  • @holly321 @jsnakehole I don’t know how it works in America but in UK the majority of primary schools are Church of England meaning that we sung hymns every assembly and I’m pretty sure we had to bow our heads and say amen but it was so long ago I can barely remember. I remember one set of parents fought that it wasn’t appropriate so their kids would sit outside all the time to not participate, at the time we didn’t think anything of it because we liked the songs and sitting with our friends but looking back I do think it was just odd that you didn’t have any choice in it especially that no one in my class actually believed in god
  • @craftyg I’m also a Brit and all my friends find it super weird when I explain the morning assembly routine! I have to say I loved singing hymns each morning - but that’s mostly because I just love singing in groups full stop.  Ah those were the days... We also had a daily prayer and said grace before lunch in my schools. Oh and of course each assembly had a story with a moral to it. Best one was our Latin teacher and her baskets.

Also to all the ladies with the on point gifs today again well done. When I look back at the qfps I think she just changed her username, but it was all the same account which you could see at the end. Weird that someone would go to so much trouble. Sadly the crazy posts are too common after any holidays. And the whole food-lube discussion was THE best way to steer the thread. Had me literally crying with laughter and snorting. Awesome.

I would go with @lalala2004 and say flame away, don’t report, see if it dies - unless the OP goes totally wild in response, then it might need a shut down.

My UO is that empowerment in our office has gone too far. A few years ago if you even hinted that you didn’t agree with the CEO you risked at best a big demotion. He left, they pushed a big overhaul to speak up and everyone is empowered to challenge things. All it now means is that every decision is re opened over and over again as people bring their questions or objections one by one - and then we make zero progress. It’s frustratingly as hell right now. I tried the “everything is poisonous in sufficient quantities argument”, and they looked at me like I had shot someone...
