  • Has anyone had a short cervix this late? She said it measures about 2.3-2.5cm I am assuming. The doc said there isn't anything they can do but monitor. But she didn't really inform me how short that is in comparison to normal length.

I have a cerclage in, so I have dealt with this in the past.  If my cervix was measuring that my OB and MFM would be concerned.  Mine like 3 cm or above, 2.5 or below would cause me to go on bed rest.  You definitely needed to be monitored regularly.  The cervix is dynamic and can lengthen at random, so I hope yours does.  Watch for frequent bh and pressure.  Also, request sonograms to measure vs internal checks.  Internal checks can introduce infection and with a potentially shortening cervix you want to prevent infections.  I hope it’s nothing and that’s just how your cervix holds.
  • I'm looking to sign up for childbirth classes at my hospital, and the course I'm looking at ends 2/21. My EDD is 3/18.

Any input from those with experience on if that's too late and I should try to find earlier classes? I want it fresh in my mind, but I'm also not trying to pay for classes, go into early labor, and then not end up taking all of what I paid for.
  • @DDRRT1982 Thanks for the info! The checks will be by sonogram. I go back next week. If it gets any shorter, the MFM suggested to my MW bedrest at home. And then monitor, and then if it get shorter hospital bed rest in the big city. Because our hospital is only equipped to deal with births after 33w. It was measuring at 3.2cm at my anatomy scan, and then 2.8cm at my first level 2 US, and now 2.5cm 6weeks later. Luckily, when she put fundal pressure and measured, the cervix didn't change. So here's hoping to a longer cervix next week lol!

I am so glad to hear you are being monitored and there is a plan.  When they put pressure on your abdomen they are checking for funneling.  If there isn’t any things should still be pretty good.  Keep us updated.  We are all still a little too early to be delivering, so it’s still pretty critical these professionals keep an eye out.

  • So where do you put the carseat... middle or on the side? I have read both, and feel the middle would be so difficult to load and unload carseat/baby from.

    @npkat middle is safest.

ETA and tbh it’s a pain in the ass unloading/loading them anyway, no matter where they are.
  • @npkat Middle isn't too bad with the infant seat because you strap them in out of the car. But we switched to side when we put DD in a convertible.

  • @npkat it’s actually safest wherever you can get the best install. Whether it be in the middle or on either side. I’m not sure if it’s allowed but I recommend joining Car Seats For The Littles on Facebook. They have lots of CPSTs that can help you with ANY car seat safety related question! It’s a wonderful group and I’ve learned so much from them.
  • @npkat I'm having twins so having to do both on the sides, but I agree with @BrittnieMariee where ever you can get the best install would be the safest.

  • I’m ravenous all the time, but am trying to eat healthy due to some blood pressure issues last pregnancy. Any recommendations for filling (but healthy) foods? Veggies and salads aren’t cutting it and I end up hungry and indulging bad cravings.
  • @bdaybaby18 I am typically a snacker anyways so pregnancy has just added to it. Some of my go to snacks... fruit, almond butter, carrots and hummus, RXBARs, larabars, trail mix, celery and almond butter, sweet potato chips (sometimes with a little snack size guacamole), beef jerky, hard boiled eggs. Hope that gives you some ideas.

    Thank you @amanning2011, @BrittnieMariee, @becausescience and @ShawnnaO!
  • @npkat Thanks! Those are some good ideas I hadn’t thought of.

Does anyone have any recommendations for prevention of yeast infections that doesn't involve eating yogurt?  I have my second yeast infection in 3 weeks and it's getting annoying.  I buy the monistat and follow the directions (with my dr's blessing) but I'd really like to avoid them altogether.  The lactose-intolerance has made me steer clear of yogurts but I finally went out this weekend and bought some and will just have to make sure that I take my lactaid with it.  I don't see my dr until Thursday when I will ask him about other preventive measure but in the meantime does anyone know of any other way to help prevent them?

A probiotic should help. @antoto suggested buying them refrigerated to insure quality.

ETA if you haven’t done so already, track what you eat and the amount of sugar you eat/drink, some sugars are sneaky in foods and drinks. Yeast feeds on sugar.
  • @LaurenAnn0405 I have the answer to your problem!  I was getting chronic yeast infections and now what I do to prevent them (haven't had a single one since I started doing this):

    1) Go buy a few boxes of the SEVEN DAY cream stuff.  You can buy off brand to save money.  Pick one day during the week where you will inject one squirt of it.  Continue that for the rest of your pregnancy.  Once a week, every week.

    2) Probiotics.  Get your sweet little booty to Sprouts or Whole Foods and go to the refrigerated vitamin section and get some of that good shit.  ONLY get the refrigerated kind.
  • Someone please help. I have a horrible, horrible toothache (two different teeth actually) and the soonest they can see me is Thursday. Can I use something like Orajel?? Any other ideas? It is so awful!
  • @chasingroygbiv from what I’ve read, the jury’s out on whether orajel is safe. Personally, I used it a couple weeks ago when I was waiting to get in for a root canal. However, I found the most effective treatment for the pain was an ice pack on the cheek outside of the painful teeth. The only way I could slee for like four days was with an ice pack. Toothaches suck, I’m sorry you’re dealing with this!
  • @chasingroygbiv clove essential oil will help numb it

  • @ShawnnaO I should’ve figured, nothing is safe! I am so miserable. I shouldn’t be surprised, I’ve had several root canals, 2 of which occurred during my pregnancies with DS and DD. My teeth must react badly to pregnancy? I’m confident I’m headed the root canal route once again, although one of the teeth that’s bothering me has already been done. Ughhh..

@megpeg Is that safe in pregnancy? How do I apply?
  • @chasingroygbiv I had to have a tooth pulled during my last pregncacy! I drank ALOT of soda when I was younger and have a lot of cavities from that, and pregnancy definitely seems to push them over the edge to the point where SOMETHING needs to be done. I’m committing myself to get all of my cavities taken care of this pregnancy so I don’t have any more issues in the future!
  • @chasingroygbiv Orajel is on my safe medication list from my OB (I just double checked it).
If you can't see your regular dentist until Thursday, there's a lot of offices that can accommodate same day emergencies if you don't want to wait.
I hope you find relief soon!

  • @ShawnnaO Ugh, I totally understand. I lack phosphorous amongst other things due to a genetic disorder so my teeth are trouble no matter how great I care for them. So frustrating.

@JBcakes08 I was hoping they’d understand how miserable I was today and squeeze me in, no luck.. which means I have to reschedule my OB appt for Thursday too. Ah well, what can you do? I’m tempted to use Orajel just at night so I can get a little sleep, this is awful.
  • @chasingroygbiv my MW recommended I take calcium supplements to help avoid issues with my teeth. I know that doesn't help with your current toothache, but maybe it could help going forward? I just feel so bad that you're having this pain - I hope you get relief soon!!
  • As far as the safest place for a car seat, yes, the middle is often the safest but check your car's manual to make sure that there isn't some reason that's not an acceptable location for that specific make/model. There are some that for whatever reason say not to use the middle seat.

  • Any STM+ feel like symptoms are coming much earlier this time around? This is my third and I’m already feeling that splitting pain in my pubic bone when I do a lot of walking, and achy low back/tail bone area, I don’t remember this until I was well into my third trimester the other times. I’m 23 weeks. Thanks!

  • @k318 yes!! I’ll be 27 weeks tomorrow and have already had a sore pubic area for weeks. And my lower back is constantly sore no matter what I do. I was also told “I must be due any day now” because apparently I’m huge  :D
  • I second checking with the car manufacturer for best car seat installation. We have an older Honda and a new Hyundai. We cannot install any car seat in the middle of the Hyundai due to the center console that pulls out for storage and cup holders. The installation would be extremely poor and loose, plus the seat blocks the rear view because it sits higher. In the Honda the best place is the center and the sides don’t work as well.
  • @npkat, as others have said, the safest spot for installing a car seat is wherever you can get the best fit. We have DS in the middle and we got a good install. Even once we switched him to a convertible, I left him there. It gets cold here in the winter, and I can fully get into the car and close the door when it's to do him up.

@Gingermom15, I'm curious if your Hyundai manual said anything about installing in the center with that pull out section. Our Hyundai also has that, but we have DS situated there. And your comment kind of freaked me out that maybe I missed something in the manual!! I hope not because DS has been there for 2.5 years.
  • @justkeeptrying I never checked the manual. I tried to install his convertible seat in the center and it was clearly too poor of a fit. If your seat is installed well and cannot be moved more than an inch then I’m sure you’re good!
  • If you had a chance to go to Cancun at 33 weeks and only had to to pay for your plane ticket and nothing else would you go?
Dh's office has a trip to Cancun planned in January for a retreat type thing with their management group. I asked my midwife today and she said as long as I felt good about it it was ok. Would you go?

  • @megpeg I would go as long as the plane ride wasn't too long (not sure where you are from) but then again is zika there? Ugh that would scare me a bit!
  • @bravoandprosecco I am in Michigan.

  • @megpeg With my previous two pregnancies, I would have gone. This one, not so much. But if your MW is clearing you, then go for it. Make sure you have travel insurance though.

  • @megpeg yes yes 100% yes
  • @kalawa I just said that to DH.
The only trip that we have ever went on outside of the state was to a friend she wedding in Texas for 3 days. We didn't take a honeymoon, have been togetherness for 18 years, married for 11, and this will be our third baby. I am just nervous about leaving my kids for it and haven't figure out a sitter yet(although I think my dad would).

  • Go for it @megpeg. Look into local healthcare facilities for just in case purposes, relax and drink all the H20 you can. We wanted and planned to do a babymoon but the way my cervix is set up, I'm better off waiting until after the babe is born to travel!
