Re: Weekday Randoms 11/28-12/1
I just spent way too much time trying to find the perfect gif from my favorite Christmas movie. And now I'm running behind in my morning schedule. Whoops. I'm getting drinks and desserts with my BFF after work today! We both just got our game plans from our respective REs and are ready for some girl time.
How've you been this week?
Its already Wednesday! This week is flying by. It’ll be Christmas before I know it, yet I still have so much shopping to do. And trying to do it on a budget while DH keeps buying things for himself is a pain in the ass...
@meggyme ugh MH does the same thing and it drives me bonkers! If I'm with him I always remind him that would be a good idea for Christmas. So far I've managed to convince him not to get a new PS4 controller (even though he can't game with the current one) for over 4 months I guess I really do have to get him that for Christmas now. Also lol, I totally thought it was Tuesday when I started the thread this morning HA! It's Wednesday, even better! Week is mostly done!
@businesswife Have all my things crossed for you today girl!!!
AFM looking forward to hopefully getting some christmas shopping done this Friday. I get my day off this week, no OT Friday! YAY YAY YAY! Also, I think it's pretty sweet (although I realize they do it for the reviews), but the company I ordered my Myo Inositol Powder through on Amazon sent me an email thanking me for purchasing with them (even before I received the product last week) and then another one this week asking me to review it and post a selfie w/ the product I purchased and they'll send me TWO free products. Maybe that's pretty par for the course, but I think it's cool and I LOVE free stuff! So, I'm getting another thing of inositol and also some citric acid cause DIY bathbombs and canning! Woot woot!!! Aside from that I made some pretty kick-ass spaghetti squash for dinner last night and today it's hella busy at work.

@meggyme I fell ya girl! I am super behind as well and don't know what to get MH, but I have a couple ideas now.
AFM... My sister is still putting pressure on us to head down to Florida for the holidays, even though we have said it doesn't work for us financially atm. She is putting major guilt on me because she doesn't know when she will see me again. My reaction is, "Well you have lived a two day drive away from me for four years. You are self employed and can work from anywhere. But lets count how many times you have come to visit me? Zero."
I loath the family guilt trip. Maybe it has something to do with being the youngest? Gggrrr
@nitnat007 Ugh... I am so sorry for the family guilt trip. If you and YH cannot make something happen due to finances they should respect that decision unless they plan to cover the cost for you. I always feel bad when I have to decline something for that reason, but realistically that's the adult decision not to go. Maybe she'll get the point and come visit you soon? GL with that. Speaking of family, how's the MIL sitch?

MIL, well she is still being a bitch whenever she can be. She completely ignored MH a couple weeks back when he tried to greet her (I don't bother trying). And she was extremely snarky to him when he messaged her regarding plans with DSS. At this stage I am not even sure if MH is going to bother patching things up with her before he leaves. I will make sure that he spending time with FIL though, as he is still being good to us. I just feel so bad for him as he suffers with this drama.
@jsnakehole AWW! What great news! I second the, what trip are you planning?
So my random thought... have you ever listened to a song from your youth that you used to LOVE and then question the lyrics as an adult? I was listening to #1 Crush by Garbage the other day and paid attention to the lyrics. I used to think it was so romantic but now I'm like... wow, this is CREEPY. You'd die for your crush? Steal ships for them? You'll never be ignored? What is THAT supposed to mean? Yikes.
Oh, and the song "Bitch" - I used to think it made the singer sound fun, cute, and exciting. Now I'm like, dude, she is a hot mess. When women say they're "complicated" it usually means they're loose cannons. Stay away.
@nitnat007, I am really sorry about your sister pressuring you. Are you always expected to visit because Florida is a "fun" state?
@wishiwaspreggo, I totally understand what you mean, but can't think of any song examples. But, when I was a kid, my dad worked night work,Vanessa everytime I was sick (which was all the time) I would make my dad watch Grease with me, which he did not like to do. Then, I watched it as an adult and realized how dirty it is.

@skilledsailor I did the same thing looking for Christmas movie gifs this morning. There are so many funny ones! So cool about being able to share the TTGP journey with your IRL friend.
@lurveybunchococonuts Do you have to post the selfie online? DNW. Having my face on Amazon is not worth free product lol. I have never made my own bath bombs. Is it pretty easy?
@nitnat007 I do not like to be guilt tripped into doing anything. I DO WHAT I WANT lol. The second I feel pressured into doing anything, I back away slowly.
@wishiwaspreggo OMG yes! Have you heard that song that goes “Girl, I want to make you sweat, sweat till you can’t sweat no more, and if you cry out, I’m gonna push it some more” or something like that. I would sing that all the time when I was really young. I had no idea what it meant. I sang it around my parents! I feel mortifed when I think about it.

@holly321 YAY!!!! Enjoy!
@wishiwaspreggo Ugh, one that bugs me to this day is that stupid "lips of an angel" song. I remember ALL my friends were like "this is the bestest song EVER, Oh em gee #swoon!" My thought then and still is, really?! It's a song about a dude dating one chick, but still in love with, talking to, and wanting to be with someone else. It flat out is all "I can't talk too loud cause my girl is home" That's eff'd up. That's not sweet. That's a 1/2 step from cheating. Break up the poor girl you're dating and stop leading her on if you're so hung up on the previous one! WTAF MAN?! That is not romance kids. I'm sure I'll think of some more examples too.
Oh! That country song, "body like a back road" <---- soooo not a compliment. Has anyone ever driven on a back road or are you trying to say the girl is well used, worn down, curvy, and full of potholes?

@jsnakehole That sounds like a really cool trip. The kids will love that!
@wishiwaspreggo My sister definitely learnt the art from my mother. They are one and the same! But totally agree with you. People should never do things out of guilt. So bad.
Hahaha there are so many songs that I give the head tilt to now that I am older. @eleven_ "Looking in her big brown....." Yeah, so wrong! lol
@lurvleybunchococonuts - UGH, I hate that song, too (Lips of an Angel)!!! I was that girl being led on by my ex when he had another girlfriend. Our relationship had a long, painful death. But we were teenagers. He liked having a side chick. I think it made him feel hot. And also, no to the "body like a back road" - DW and I said the same thing when we listened to it!
ETA: Totally rhetorical question

"Be careful what you wish for"
sorry guys, I think someone somewhere got my wish mixed up.
In other news, I ordered Indian food for dinner and I'm suuuuuuuuuuuper excited. Especially because I had to work late and my much hoped-for slice of pizza didn't materialize. I work at a university and sometimes stay after for student events and there's almost always extra pizza for the staff to have a snack but not this time. Oh well, more room for delicious naan, curry, and vegetable pakora!
@wishiwaspreggo I'm so jealous right now. Indian food is my favorite.

@jsnakehole Aw I love that the parents are so supportive of the field trip. It does sound pretty cool. Way more fun than the average museum trip.
@nitnat007 Ugh I’m sorry you’re sister is being a butt about Christmas. Glad you’re standing your ground though!
@holly321 Yas Girl! Get your drink on!
I’m saving my warnings. I feel like eventually something will make me so angry I’ll just say eff it, I’ve got two warnings to spare and break out all the mean curse word gifs. Until that day I carefully walk the line of “I’m upset but not warning level upset” gifs.
@galactickates Girl, it’s no ones fault but the OPs.
@wishiwaspreggo Oh so jealous of your dinner! We use to live in a part of town with a large Asian community that had amazing Indian and Thai restaurants. I miss the good food.
Oh, @spottedginger Remember the cat gif I posted to a drive-by tonmaybe or maybe not make sure you didn’t get another warning? Never got TOU’d.
Eta I was kind of saving mine but that particular post really angered me knowing how many regs have been going through an especially deep layer of hell lately.
@lurvleybunchococonuts What do you serve your spaghetti squash with? I love it but never really know what to put with it besides spaghetti sauce. We did have a yummy blue apron meal last week with spaghetti squash -- it was a vegetarian pad thai. It was so good!
@nitnat007 I'm so sorry about the guilt trip your sister is giving you. It's so hard living away from family and trying to figure out ways to see everyone without spending a ton of money. My whole family used to live in Florida so it was pretty easy to get there, but then my sister and her husband moved to Montana...it's so expensive to fly there and I hardly ever get to see them because of it. I think it's great that you're sticking up for yourself and not going out of your way to spend all that money when you know it's not feasible for you. I'm also so sorry to hear about the family drama with your MIL. Your MIL sounds soooo much like my sister's MIL. She's had so much grief with her over the years and never knows how to deal with it.
@wishiwaspreggo I totally get what you mean about listening to old song lyrics! I feel the same way about movies from the 80s and 90s. I loved movies like All Dogs Go to Heaven and Oliver & Company...I tried watching them recently and they're so dark and horrible. I can't believe we watched movies like that growing up. Kids movies now are so light and innocent.
AFM: We went to the mall tonight and we finished Christmas shopping for my in laws! We're driving up to New Jersey this weekend to visit them so I was really motivated to get my shopping done so I could bring the gifts with me and avoid having to go to the post office. I haaaaate the post office. MH's jerky step FIL got us all tickets to see the Rockettes this weekend and I'm so excited! He's usually pretty rude but he randomly said he wanted to treat us to the show, so...okay, I couldn't say no! I'm going to be drooling over the Rockettes' long legs!
ETA: omg, my computer is weird. It only showed one Colbert gif but on mobile there were 3 in a row! Oops.

Bonus points for baking.
Negative points for too much chocolate.
@jrm_14 I always love a good angel food cake. The box mix always turns out really well (imo) and I usually make a glaze with powdered sugar and lemon juice to pour over top. It's so good! I guess it's kind of summer-y though. Or maybe a key lime pie? (I totally pasted the recipe for slutty brownies before I read your comment about negative points for too much chocolate. Boo!)
