Infertility

WWYD?

Back story: We've been doing infertility treatments (some clomid cycles and some menopur cycles) since July 2016.  The most follicles we've had and still continued with IUI was 4, and clearly didn't get pregnant.  This is most likely our last cycle and we will start looking into adoption in 2018.

Well, I'm in the middle of my (most likely) final menopur cycle and found out that I have 5 mature follicles (all between 17-19mm).  I don't know what to do!!  Since we've been trying so long with no success, my dr is totally fine with us doing TI and I'm leaning toward going for it.  But I really don't want high order multiples (we're okay with twins).  Seriously, WWYD??  Side note: I know you're not doctors.  I just want to hear what you would do and why.
Me: PCOS   DH: No issues

Re: WWYD?

  • Gosh @Funnygirl34 I don't know.  I have such a fear of multiples that I would probably opt to wait but I can see where after many tries some people might choose to move forward.  What I might suggest is talking it over with your partner. What would you do if had triplets or more, how would you cope mentally or financially?  How do each of you feel about selective reductions? I don't think there is a right or wrong answer with this but hopefully through your conversations you can decide what you as a couple are able to take on.  Best wishes to you on your cycle.

  • @Funnygirl34 I've had two IUIs done with 5-6 mature follicles before. This was after 5 years of TTC and *TW* one miscarriage */TW*. Because of my history, my doctor was fine continuing with the IUI. We also had the selective reduction talk with him and he knew where we stood. I'm still here so obviously neither of those cycles worked. If it were me, I'd still go ahead with the IUI, not just TI, but that's obviously based on my personal history and current circumstances.

  • @Funnygirl34 Personally I would go for IUI and whatever is meant to happen will happen. If I had a choice of triplets or even quadruplets or no kids at all, I would never think twice. Good luck to you! Keep us posted.

  • Thanks y'all!  We decided to move forward the cycle!  I triggered last night.  I feel hopeful!  We feel settled that this will be our last cycle on infertility meds, one way or another.  If it's not successful we will start looking into adoption in 2018.  Thanks for your opinions!
