What do you think of this? Re: Adoption

A couple was turned down for adopting a baby because the husband was morbidly obese... What do you think about that?  Fair or insane?? I understand that it isn't a great example for the child and he may not be alive for a long time, but why does it mean he can't take care of the child or love him/her?  I guess I get both sides...

  • Hmm.. would they turn down someone with diabetes or another chronic disease?

  • This is becoming increasingly common-China how has a BMI requirement for adoptive parents.
  • My former MIL was morbidly obese. ?She could not even come close to keeping up with her 4 grandchildren. ?Her 2 year old granddaughter took off running at an outdoor mall and she could not go after her. ?The security guards found the child getting into a car with a strange man. Unfortunately, this wasn't the only incident that happened under her care and she always used her weight as an excuse. ?It baffled me that my former SIL allowed her to babysit.
  • Unfortunately, if it is a privately run adoption agency, they can turn you down for any reason they want.

Just a question: Were they going by the person's BMI?
