Double stroller?!

Hi everyone! First off, congratulations on making a tiny human! I’m due with # 2 on July 27th, and DS just turned 2 in September. What are the best strollers for toddler + baby. I have a single jogger that I LOVE, and have been looking at the Contours Options Elite for a double. Anyone have an honest review or recommendation?

Re: Double stroller?!

  • I have twin boys and I love our Options Elite! It is heavy to lift in and out of a vehicle (I think 45lbs) but I don't mind. It maneuvers really easily and my boys like the multiple seating configurations! I chose it over the City Select because both seats on the Contours are full size and the rumble seat on the City Select is smaller with a lower weight limit (plus I couldn't fathom spending $1200 on a stroller but that's just me). Highly recommended!

  • Oh following!! That’s the one I’m thinking too! DS will be 2 in February *crying emoji*. I’ve been crushing hard on the modular doubles like ICandy but I can’t justify $1200 on a stroller. That’s crazy.
  • Following. DS will be nearing 2 when this baby arrives. I haven’t even started looking at doubles... kind of scared of what I’ll end up wanting LOL.

  • I hardly ever used the stroller with the first, so I'm struggling with the idea of buying a double. I think I am just going to spend money on a nice baby carrier, but I'm interested in what people plan to get.. my problem is TRUNK SPACE. I can barely fit an umbrella stroller in the car, much less a double
  • we love our graco jogger will probably look i to a double from them.

  • @Crystal321 the Options is definitely not compact! It takes up my whole mini van back with the rear seats folded down

  • Yeah that's what I am worried about. Buying a small car as a "family car" when pregnant with my first was a huge oversight. Should have just gotten an SUV.
  • @Crystal321 That's our issue, we bought a Chevy Cruz- I had a 2-door Ford Focus before that and was afraid to drive around a tank. Bad move. But I do have to say the Cruz has a pretty big trunk for a clown car.
  • Does anyone have an opinion on side by side vs front and back (sorry I don't know if I'm using properly terminology)? We have the uppababy Cruz for my 14 mo old and I'm really kicking myself for not just getting the vista when we had him. I was thinking about the citi mini double but not sure if I can snap an infant seat into that. And I'm thinking fitting through doorways would be a pain in the ass.
  • @zande2016 I have a BabyTrend jogger that's side by side as well as the Options which is a tandem (front & back). Now that my boys are older, they bug each other alllll the time in the side by side. It's so annoying because someone always ends up crying. The front and back is a bit to get used to because it's pretty long but it is definitely my preferred stroller style.

  • Front/back strollers are difficult to turn, just fyi. I got a used Graco tandem and we use it a lot and it does it's job. It's really tall/long when folded and barely fits in my small SUV trunk. I end up preferring to take a smaller, easier to maneuver single stroller. Then either my 3yo walks and her brother rides, or she rides and I use my ergobaby carrier for her brother. That just seems more manageable for me. We also live where it snows a lot and strollers just don't work in the snow. I know this isn't the point of the thread but investing in a nice baby carrier will be one of your best moves for taking two kiddos out and about.

    Isabella & Julian & and now #3!
  • I have a city select and a Thule double jogger.... I love both for different reasons and hate both for different reasons...  but I like that I have something for every situation!
  • Anyone tried the one from Uppababy? That's the one I've been looking at. But more thinking get it if we need it (Kiddo is 3.5) and keep it for kiddo #3 down the line. The next kid will be closer in age to the one I'm currently having, so I know I'll eventually need the double for sure. So I want to plan car seats now trying to look ahead.

I have the Uppababy and plan to use it once LO gets here. I stopped using it with DD because she’s not a fan of it and would scream and cry every time I put her in it. I switched to the Britax Agile and she was more content and would occasionally take a nap in it if we’re out. I plan to start taking the UppaBaby out again and getting her used to it before LO arrives.

I seriously hated having a double stroller. This time I just bought a city mini and will just carry the newborn. I barley used it and ended up just carrying one and put the other in a single stroller. It was so much easier to get around. I will just add the skateboard thing (I think thats what is called) to the back of the city mini for my 4 year old. Then all 3 are contained with out a double stroller!
  • Oh yay! I haven’t gone to “test drive” yet but I outback the Contours one on my registry too!

I am pretty cheap and fairly minimal with most things baby-wise, but not the stroller! I use it multiple times a day and want one that’s smooth and easy to push, hoping this is the one!

I have the single Thule jogger now and loveee it, and my LO has been in it since 3 months... so the Thule double is a second choice but a little pricier!!
  • I have a double BOB that I use now with my girls. It’s a beast but so easy to push when outdoors. Fitting between rows in stores at the mall is another thing but that’s ok. I’m going to add a standing board on the back and hopefully my oldest will use that when she’s tired.

I've looked at the Chicco double strollers and they look awesome! I already have a Chicco single + a keyfit 30 infant carrier so I'd be sticking to that brand for sure. I love it. :)   I dig the Chicco Cortina Together

  • Lurking from Dec17....

For anyone looking into a City Select, they’re not $1200. And right now, it’s on sale on Amazon for $560ish with BOTH seats. I purchased ours (with only 1 seat) for $375, second seat for $80, car seat adapter, snack tray and parent console for an additional $80-100. Still not even $1200, which you’re looking at for a Bumbleride or Donkey.

  • stm+ here just adding my two cents for those who will be using it daily or multiple times a week.

We have the 2015 uppa baby vista and I love it. It's easy to push through the city daily (Manhattan Mom) and it has traveled really well with us. We are looking forward to making work for 3 kids. Two seats and a ride board. It's pricey, but considering the thousands of miles I've put on it, it was worth every penny.

But uppa baby's customer service is top notch. They have a 3 year warranty and will help you replace any part. And they are nice.

I’ve been out of the stroller purchasing game for a while so who knows what’s all out now, but we purchased a city select double 7 years ago. Best purchase ever! We loved it and I’ll be getting it down from the attic for this little one too. It’s held up through 3 kids. I never had trouble turning it as some have mentioned with front/back doubles. It’s built really well and was an awesome investment.

    Edit: bc words are hard
  • I've been thinking about a double more and more recently. DD will by 3 months shy of 3 years old when baby comes. At first I was thinking I wouldn't get a double but now I think I want one. We're an active family, take a lot of day trips and I feel like DD might be sad if there is no room for her in the stroller. I think I want a double Bob, I have the single and I LOVE it. I can't see myself getting anything else but they are so pricy. I told DH that if we splurge on a double Bob we should just have a 3rd kid soon after this one to make it worth it lol.

  • Okay I've googled and not having much luck. Does anyone know of any double/convertible strollers besides the uppababy vista that are compatible with the uppababy Mesa car seat? It seems like none of them sell adapters for the Mesa and I'm getting frustrated that my only options for a double are to buy the vista, or buy a new car seat.
  • So Joovy just came out with a new model of the ‘Qool’ and it has a million configurations! Ok more like 30, but still! It can be a single or double, but appears to have much more room for the second seat than some similar models like the Brotax B-Ready. So far it is only available online and in store at Buy Buy Baby and the closest one to me is about 3 hours away. Forever wishing I was a famous mom blogger for the free product! If anyone has experience with this particular stroller, please clue me in!
  • @Claireymary thanks for reviving this! But sorry no feedback on your question.

DH and i started looking at strollers and found the Chicco BravoFor2. It will fit the car seat we had for DS and has a standup/pulldown seat behind it for DS to us. Anyone have experience with this one? I’ve been reading mostly good reviews so far.
  • I've been doing tons of research on doubles, and have really liked this site:  https://www.lucieslist.com/gear-guides/best-double-stroller/

I think I've narrowed it down to either the Chicco, the Joovy Ultralite (which I'm leaning towards) or a used City Select.  But I'm very concerned that the City Select won't fit in my trunk.
  • @acunamatada I still miss my 2 door focus hatchback some days - he was totaled in 2012 and i still miss him - though he never would have made it through carseat(s) - had the 4 door version for a couple years but even that thing wasn't big enough for someone to sit safely in the passenger seat with the carseat in! So now we have a Sante Fe Sport and I LOVE IT! never thought i'd love being an SUV mom.

I'm on the fence about to double stroller or not... We have the gracco jogger which I always loved but haven't been jogging much due to multiple slipped discs and it's so massive to get in the car.  We also have the summer infant 3d lite that is our "Disney Stroller" - I love that thing in the park - lightweight and it has survived 4 flights and 3 week long Disney trips with no issues whatsoever.  We usually have the tulla with us too and she goes back and forth, so I'm sure we'll need at least one with a caboose on the back for her to sit when she gets tired. Is 2 single strollers just completely insane?

  • @gingerbride26 I am doing two singles as well. I don't go out much to places where I would need my own double so I just can't justify it. I have a citi mini and umbrella stroller now and I plan to make use of the carrier this time around. I never had a good one for my first... I already bought a tula for this baby though.. not making that mistake again!
  • @cseley321 We tried 3 different carriers.  We got the chicco on our registry and it was OK when she was itty bitty for housework but ended up using a mobi wrap more around the house.  We got an infantino as a handmedown that was AWESOME for a trip to Disney when she was old enough to face front, but the buckle jammed and I can't fix it.  We got the Tula for the next Disney trips and keep it in the car for a go-to on shopping trips where strollers are a hassle (IKEA anyone?).  By 18 months I couldn't carry her in the Tula any more without pain due to my back issues, but my husband wears it a lot - not conducive to on-the-go napping any more though or toddler's favorite game of "I want the other parent now".

Can def see benefits of using carrier(s) for #2 and keeping #1 in the stroller.

  • I had a baby ktan that I got for a vacation when she just turned 1. I looooved it, but she was pretty much too big for it by then. I am planning to use that for the house and short trips with the new baby and the tula for longer outings.
  • I had the ktan too but DS didn’t like it much early on. It did come handy when traveling for his 1 yr bday. Easy to use and put away at the airport.
  • Maybe the convertible type will be more suitable for you, which is suitable for kids with different ages. With a double stroller guide, the elder one can be placed on the bench.
  • I'm officially getting the Joovy Qool and I'm very excited about it.  Hope I don't end up disappointed later!
  • We finally sold our Uppababy Cruz and bought the Vista to replace it. DAM that thing is heavy. Now I am wanting to buy something light, like the City Mini maybe, for days when I just want to walk around the neighborhood with the baby in the Tula and the toddler in the stroller. Help, I think I am becoming a stroller addict. We also just scored a used Bob jogging stroller for $50 from someone on Facebook, it's really dirty and beat up, but still has plenty of life left in it once we clean it. Not that I jog or anything, it's just for hikes and stuff.
  • So I still can't commit to a stroller...the clock is ticking. I love the idea of the Joovy Qool, but hate that it's not available in store at BBB to test out. I like the fact that it can be a single or double since DS is almost three, and the little bench seat that's available is an awesome perk as well. BUT, I'm worried about it's all terrain capabilities. I won't be hiking thru the woods or anything like that, but I worry that it's wheels are not heavy duty enough. I am trying to avoid having two strollers if at all possible. Also, would you recommend side by side or front to back? Ughhh decisions!
  • @Claireymary - there was one on display at my BBB store!  And they even unpacked and installed a 2nd seat and the infant attachment for it when I asked!  I went to the zoo on a very crowded day and felt very sorry for all the parents who had side by sides.
  • wildtotwildtot member
@Claireymary call the BBB ahead of time to see if they have it in stock. We didn’t have luck the first time but they eventually stocked up and had a display. I like it so far.
