Re: Friday Ticker Change 11/17

  • 1. How many weeks along are you? How big is baby? 18 weeks. Artichoke! Feels very on brand, the family business my husband works for is famous for their grilled artichokes. Wait, why do I keep mentioning how my baby is the size of something delicious guys?

    2. How are you feeling lately? I feel awesome, probably the best I've felt so far. I was able to go to soul cycle and power yoga and ride and felt terrific. I'm just dead by 8:30 but who cares.

    3. Any appointments coming up? A couple more weeks until my anatomy scan!

    4. Rants, Raves, Questions? I mentioned this in the randoms, but seriously, how do people deal with the belly touching? My friend would not stop touching my stomach at dinner a week ago. I am still more bloated than showing at night (almost flat by morning) so it makes me just queasy to have anyone touch me. I am really going to struggle with this when I start legit getting big.

    5. (Borrowed from Sunday) Do you go by any nicknames? Does your family have any silly names for you? My dad used to call me birdie, but he's french so, he would say it with his really thick french accent and it sounded quite funny. When he calls me that today, I get a little emotional. In high school, I was called gawks bc I was so tall and gawky.

    1. 20 weeks!! HALFWAY!! Baby is the size of a banana

    2. Been feeling good, waiting on that dreaded 3rd trimester lol!

    3. We have our A/S on Monday. Feeling excited and nervous, but my DH might miss it, my appt is 10:30 and he gets off work (in the same hospital) at 11... Really hoping they are running behind on appts!

    4. Kind of a rave: getting nervous about Thanksgiving. I'm being trusted to do the turkey for the FIRST time ever! On one hand, I'm feeling very proud that they are trusting me, but ALSO never been so scared to cook a stupid turkey before!

    5. I don't really. The only person who has a nickname for me is my brother and he literally just calls me "sister" and I call him "bubba" or if I'm getting very nostalgic "bubby"
  • @stalkinghorse glad to hear you're feeling good, but can you be anymore California?? Haha

I don't know about the belly touching, my family have all been given "the talk" aka I told each of them, don't touch without asking or being invited. But strangers are just gonna get the avoidance dance/hand smacks without remorse!

So sweet about your dad's nickname!
  • @ftm_ohio I'm really embracing the Cali cliches, you're right!!!

I've only done a turkey one year, and I found it SUPER intimidating. If you can, do a brine before, it really helps. I hope you have a lovely little mini-shower. Having a talk sounds like a very very good plan. I'm going to see family in France in a couple weeks and I am already bracing for the inappropriate comments and touching.
  • @stalkinghorse I think it's certainly harder to deal with when it's family because you know they mean well and they are just so excited for you, but I just made a point to remind them that it's still my body and I'd really appreciate the remaining autonomy I have before this baby comes and controls it until I die lol
  • @stalkinghorse I'm glad you're feeling so well!
Ugh the belly touching. Last pregnancy I did not have anyone do this. This time I've had a few so far and it's so uncomfortable because I can only blame uterus on maybe 25% of my belly.

@ftm_ohio good luck with the turkey! I did one a few years back, not for Thanksgiving. I made my sister come over to help me. I found it to be so gross and never want to do it again haha
    1. How many weeks along are you? How big is baby?
19 weeks, size of a Gameboy!
    2. How are you feeling lately?
It's different day to day. Kind of uncomfortable lately, which makes me nervous because we have so long to go!
    3. Any appointments coming up?
I had my anatomy scan today. Baby looks great! DS kept calling him a fishy. I did find out I have an anterior placenta and it's low lying so I need to go back to get it checked between 28-32 weeks to makes sure it's moved up as the uterus grows. FX!
    4. Rants, Raves, Questions?
We (H, DS, and I) are on our way to an indoor waterpark for the weekend to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary and to have one last mini trip before baby comes. Even though H keeps pushing to go to FL in Jan or Feb and it seems so unappealing right now with how uncomfortable I am already.
    5. (Borrowed from Sunday) Do you go by any nicknames? Does your family have any silly names for you?
I don't really have any. My friends used to call me by my maiden name, some still do. A few of my older cousins call me Little Sarah.

  • @sapphires-and-diamonds that's AWESOME news that baby looks good! Will keep fx that the placenta grows appropriately!

Hope you have a GREAT trip!

    1. 19 weeks—size of a mango

    2. I’m also feeling pretty good. Only annoying thing is a pretty much constant need to pee.

    3. Anatomy scan on 11-30. Our moms are coming with us and they are both so excited!

    4. Rave—I’m feeling movement!! He gets really wiggly when I drink ice cold water or if I’m sitting down and my tight waist band is right on top of him. He’s like “time to get maternity pants, Mom!” It’s so awesome!

    5. My younger cousin couldn’t say Morgan when he was little, so he started calling me Mo, which evolved into MoMo. Family and close friends call me that. My parents called me peaches because the first time they gave me a bite of a fresh peach right off the tree I said “hmmm this tastes like fruit!” I was a very astute three year old!

@stalkinghorse glad you are feeling great! I am with you on the belly touching. I just want to tell people “yeah you’re just feeling the French fries I had for lunch, not the baby!” How are we gonna deal in the last few weeks when we are really showing?!

@ftm_ohio good luck with the turkey! I’m sure it will be delicious! My only contribution to our dinner is a pecan pie and some sausage balls. I’m getting off pretty easy!
  • Oof, I totally started the thread and then ghosted before I could finish my post. Finally coming back to it... been one of those days!
@stalkinghorse Glad you're feeling good! I'm with you on the belly touching.... it hasn't been bad yet, but my mom insists on touching it everytime I see her and it drives me nuts, but I can't bring myself to say anything because it makes her so happy. I don't have any advice, just sympathy :) And yes, I'might pretty energetic, but also done by 8:30 every night.
@ftm_ohio Good luck with the turkey! You'll do fine :) I would recommend checking out some good guides online, and getting an instant read thermometer so that you know when it's cooked (instead of over cooking it to be sure it's safe, as people often do).
@sapphires-and-diamonds Yay for a good a/s... it's super cute that your son called the baby fishy :) Sorry you're feeling uncomfortable already though :( What is bothering you?

    1. How many weeks along are you? How big is baby?
21 weeks, baby is size of an endive, carrot or pomegranate (?), man, I really feel like this whole size of your baby compared to a fruit or vegetable thing is really starting to break down.

    2. How are you feeling lately? Good! Finally starting to feel some small baby movements - I have an AP, which explains why it has taken sooooo long :)

    3. Any appointments coming up? I had my A/S on Tuesday, which went well, but now I'm waiting for my appt with the midwife to review the scan in a week and a half.

    4. Rants, Raves, Questions? So grumpy that my placenta is in the way of feeling movement. Otherwise not much to complain about.

    5. Do you go by any nicknames? Does your family have any silly names for you? MH has a million names for me, but most often he calls me hedgehog. I was always sad as a kid because my name doesn't lend itself toward nick names, so I'may always making sure that the baby names I pick have good nn options.

  • @hedgepig was wondering what happened to you this morning! Thanks for the tips, I do have a digital meat thermometer and I have cooked a couple turkeys before, but never for Thanksgiving, just seems more intimidating.

I agree about the comparing size thing, it's been a little flawed from the start, but definitely getting worse haha!

Glad your A/S was positive, but why do you have to wait a week and a half to discuss??
  • 1. How many weeks along are you? How big is baby?

20 weeks! Banana? Mango? I don’t know - I’m bad at keeping track honestly. And with just guesstimations, I don’t take much stock into them
  • @ftm_ohio That's just when my next appt was scheduled.... I didn't think about it when we were scheduling appts, and I guess I would have expected them to suggest an appt right after the A/S, but they don't seem too worried about it. My midwife did say that they'd call if anything looked weird or abnormal, so I'm trying to just wait patiently :)

  • @hedgepig my back has been bothering me more, I already have chronic pain from scoliosis. My belly feels super heavy. Also bending over is already becoming an issue. I had no problems bending over my entire first pregnancy to put on shoes, etc. I feel like I need to be more active.

  • @hedgepig that's still a little frustrating. Hopefully with Thanksgiving the week will fly for you and it'll be here before you know it!

@sapphires-and-diamonds I'm a FTM so IDK what is normal, but I've been having trouble bending and getting my socks on for a couple weeks!
  • @sapphires-and-diamonds I'm sorry to hear, it sounds really frustrating. Have you tried a belly support band? I know some of the ladies on here said they helped with back pain and RLP, so maybe that would offer some relief?
