GTKY: In honor of my crazy MIL and surplus of pie crusts (see weekday randoms for story), let's talk pie.  What's your favorite? Do you have any funny pie stories? Who makes the best pie? etc. If you don't like pie, how do you sleep at night? <-- kidding but why don't you like pie? (PS: promise not to judge too harshly if you don't like pie... but we totally can't be friends) :D:D

  • I'm jumping in because I love the GTKY!

    Month/Cycle:  4/3 (1 benched, 2 if I stay benched this month)

    CD:  10ish?

WAYDTGKU: benched  *TW loss mentioned* waiting to talk to my CNM after a CP last week *end TW*  Taking PNV and charting CM/symptoms but I would expect this cycle to be a little wonky.

R/R: Raves:  Have a dinner event for work tonight.  I am taking a new job in January so this will be so fun to hang out with the ladies on my team before I go.  And it's hump day!  Rants:  None yet!

    CS/Q: No charting, no stalking.

GTKY: Oooh, huge pie fan here.  Salted caramel apple pie is my fave, followed by pretty much any fruit pie and chocolate chip cookie pie!  My mom makes a pineapple meringue pie on Easter that is the. bomb.  Also love savory meat pies, quiche, etc.  Basically put anything into a pie crust and I will scarf it down!

@lalala2004 Hm, that is a weird sleep pattern. Would 9-5am be a better one for HIO and still doable for you?

@nitnat007 I hope your new doctor isn't super weird or overwhelmed. I love the sound of the milk pie. Recipe?

@quiltandknit Sounds like a good night! What is your new job? Is it a new company or new position within your current one?

Edited because the Bump ate my post again.
  • @skilledsailor I’m glad your DH did his research! Yeah, 9-5 would be better. I’m just so exhausted by 8, and on the days where I do stay up later, I still end up waking up at 4. It’s like I’m stuck.

@nitnat007  I was sad when Chickfila stopped serving their lemon pie, it was so good, along with their brownies. They stopped serving a lot of things I loved, but I still <3 Chickfila. At least their new salads are good. I’m better off eating that than the lemon pie

@quiltandknit salted caramel apple pie sounds amazing!

@SkilledSailor That pie looks fabulous! Time to talk MH into making apple pie next week... Also, so glad that you and YH are on the same page! That helps so much.
@quiltandknit So sorry for your loss. *hugs*

@lalala2004 lol... your bizarre sleep schedule is shockingly similar to mine, except I intentionally wake up at 4:00 cause I need to be to work by 5:00 :)  You're right, it's not always conducive to HIO... although I did get woken up by DH around 10ish for some brown chicken brown cow! *high five to myself* Ooo... lemon pie milkshake sounds delicious!

@nitnat007 Hope your dr appt goes well :) Yay!  YH is almost home :D  SO excited for you!  Interesting I'll have to google that Milk Tart thing.

@quiltandknit I'm glad you like the GTKY :) A work dinner sounds nice, what are you getting to eat?  Are you going to actually be working over dinner, or just going out with coworkers?  Ooo those pies sound delicious!

@skilledsailor Sorry it's not Friday yet :(  I think we all wish it was.  Yay, so glad to hear that you and YH are back on the same page!  That's great :)  That is a damn good looking apple pie!  Very nice!

    Be back for post

  • @quiltandknit Hi friend! TW Sorry for your loss. *hugs* Oh so many ideas on pies. Salted caramel and the pineapple mango one....I think we may need recipes here!

@skilledsailor So glad to hear that you and YH are on the same page again. And good for him for doing some research of his own! Bravo! Pie looks delish!

@lalala2004 I have never had Chickfila! (Maybe that should be my FFFC). And I am not sure if the salad is better. Lemon pie sure sounds good for the soul! lol

@SkilledSailor @lurvleybunchofcoconuts Doctor was extremely fresh out of school and new. I basically had to tell him what tests I wanted run, and then tell him that FSH needed to be tested on different CD than Progesterone. SMH Oh well, got the requisitions to get it done and will likely be interpreting the results myself. So, watch this space for when they come through. Sigh!

    WAYDTGKU: Eating pie crust :D

    R/R: TW: (talking about cancer)
So aside from receiving the crazy pie crusts we found out from the In-law's last night that FIL just has to do monitoring every 3 months.  Apparently with prostate cancer there's some scale of 6-10 (10 being the worst), and he's at a 6.  The doctor has other patients with similar cases that do the monitoring like FIL will be that have had 0 growth in 7+ years.  So, in terms of having prostate cancer, I think that's like... the best possible.  Big sigh of relief.
So I think I should start writing down my crazy MIL stories, I dunno if I just have a particularly odd duck of a MIL, but she straight up cracks me up with her antics.  Maybe that's normal, plus I do laugh easily, but it seems like she's doing or saying something wacky all the time.  She equally drives me up a wall or makes me laugh at her shenanigans.

GTKY: Hmm... to pick a favorite pie I'd have to say pumpkin.  Probably because when I was a kid I used to get to eat left over pumpkin pie for breakfast the day after Thanksgiving and I thought that was just the coolest thing ever!  H's favorite are a toss up between homemade pecan and homemade cherry pie.

So the day before last Thanksgiving I decided to make H a pecan pie (1st try ever).  I followed the recipe and it said to bake it until set (roughly 45-60 mins).  I check it at 45 mins... liquid. 1 hours goes by still liquid. 2 hours still liquid, 2.5 hrs! wtf this thing is STILL completely liquid af!  I finally decide "screw it, this thing HAS to be done by now" and take it out of the oven, leave it cooling on the stove and go to bed.  Wake up the next morning, it's hard as a rock.  Like you could prop up a bookshelf on this thing.  Decide to attempt it one more time (because I'm just that awesome of a wife).  Come to find out while making pie #2, I totally didn't put eggs into the pie #1 and apparently they're a key part of the recipe!  2nd pie turns out great (and set within 45-60 mins).  Then in-laws come over for pie Thanksgiving evening.  H of course has to tell them about my egg-less pecan pie/paper weight that I made, and MIL says "eh, it can't be THAT bad, gimmie a piece to try".  After a disturbing amount of effort I manage to crack off a hunk to give to MIL and apparently it's great!  I made a pecan "toffee" that she and FIL both devoured.  So now I was informed that I need to make one normal pecan pie for H, and  an "eggless" pecan pie so they can try to break their teeth again.
TLDR; I made a pecan pie forgot the eggs it turned into rock hard pecan candy and MIL wants me to intentionally make it again.

  • @lalala2004 That is a tough sleep pattern for HIO. How late do you work on weekends? Would it be possible to just force yourself to stay up late Sunday/sleep in Monday and stay on that pattern?

@nitnat007 FX you like the new doc!

@quiltandknit (TW) sorry about the CP, hopefully your body will readjust quickly (end TW). Enjoy your work dinner, that sounds like a fun Wednesday night!

    Month/Cycle:
    2/2

    CD: 10

WAYDTGKU: PNVs, temping/charting, OPKs, OED BD during FW

R/R: I slept for 10 hours last night after not sleeping much the night before and feel very refreshed today, but the random sleep is not good for temping, alas. Also the main partner I work for just told me he plans to be out after Monday next week so I have to expedite all the work he needs from me. At least I guess next week will be pretty slow.

CS/Q: My chart is wack due to bad sleep habits this week. My OPK last night was negative but seemingly trending toward positive so FX for a positive tonight, DH has been put on notice for potential HIO.

GTKY: I love all holiday pies. My aunt and cousin usually make/buy 3 for Thanksgiving (pumpkin, pecan, and chocolate) so I usually have a small slice of each. The pumpkin is almost always my fave.

  • @lurvleybunchococonuts if I had that much pie crust, I would just bake it up plain and DH would eat it all and gain like 10 lbs. He loves plain pie crust. I mean, I do, too, but I love all carbs. He has a special thing for pie crust. He doesn’t even care about pie. Just crust.

  • @lalala2004 when I was about 5, my aunt made a homemade blueberry pie.  I ate two HUGE pieces of it before telling her that it's really good, except for the blueberry stuff inside it, so could I get another piece of just the outside part? :D:D She just about killed me.  Thankfully I've grown out of just eating the pie crust, but that's really funny that YH likes it so much.

  • Y’all remember how I had that really dark OPK a few days ago? They are super light, now. Is that normal, to have LH go up and down throughout a cycle? Or am I doing something wrong? Sorry if this is a dumb question. OPKs make me feel like a newb.

  • @lalala2004 It is very possible to have multiple LH surge's through a cycle. ie Your body gets ready to O and then doesn't release the egg. This could be the case as you don't have the high temps to confirm O. I would keep temping, testing and hio just in case. GL

Yeah, I am. Here I thought OPKs might help me, but I think they just make me more confused

  • @lalala2004 If I remember correctly you are using the easy@home brand OPK? I found with those there is no question when it finally does become positive. So hopefully one of those will show up for you soon. FX.
  • @lalala2004 Me and DH usually go to sleep around 8:30 as he wakes up at 4:00/4:30 for work and then I'm usually up by 5:30. Definitely not great for HIO but I love having the quiet hours in the morning.
@nitnat007 Gotta love when you have to coach your doctor...
@quiltandknit I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you can relax and have fun at your event tonight!
@SkilledSailor Woohoo for DH being on board and being an active participant. MH is (usually) willing to do the HIO but that's about as far as his commitment extends for the most part - although to his credit he has been working on cutting down on caffeine and has said he going to not drink until Christmas.
@lurvleybunchococonuts I'm glad you got the best possible news for your FIL! That is too funny about the toffee - but at least it was salvageable I suppose! My SIL who self-admittedly doesn't bake or cook at all sometimes feels the need to try because it drives her bonkers that I'm a decent cook and great baker. She has yet to bake something where she hasn't screwed it up - she either misses ingredients completely or uses the wrong thing (icing sugar instead of flour). None of her attempts have been salvageable.
@legallykate My last months chart was so all over the place because of weird sleep patterns...it drives me bonkers to see it! Hopefully you still get a defined O!

    Month/Cycle: 9/14 (5ntnp)

    WAYDTGKU: All the things

R/R: My pest control guy got all the dead rat bodies out of my shed and re-set all the traps and re-filled the bait stations. He also thinks our neighbours shed may be infested - they have wood piles laying around where they are likely hiding and they have bird feeders out which are notorious rat feeders. This means I'll be going to have a conversation with them this week about perhaps tidying up their crap and setting some traps. The pest guy said it's unusual to see as many rats as I have in an area so populated. Also - the sun in shining finally today which means my dogs will get an above average length walk which makes us all happy.

CS/Q: Nothing exciting yet - I forgot to temp at my usual middle of the night wake up time so when I remembered 3 hours later I had a bit of a jump in temp but FF gave me an open circle anyways so I may just discard it.

GTKY: My favourite pie hands down is pumpkin - and Costco makes one of the best around. I am not dedicated enough to dick around making pastry so I'm willing to eat store pie. My best friend however makes amazing pie (and crust from scratch) but she lives 8 hours away so I only get her pie like once a year and I don't even care what flavour she makes....they are all fabulous!
