Two Under 2

2 Under 1 - Announcing

Hello ladies,

I recently found out I'm expecting my second in early July 2018. I'm currently 4 months PP and 4.5 weeks pregnant.

Because of the work I do, I've had to disclose the news to an employee and my bosses boss. They both took it poorly, expressing their shock.

My direct boss is on vacation until next week, at which point, I will have to disclose my current pregnancy. I know she will take is poorly as well. I'm not expecting congratulations but a little reserve and politeness would go a long way.

My question is this: how did you deal with the negative or directly offesive feedback from friends, family, coworkers or even strangers when announcing?

Thanks!

Hi.  I'm sorry you're having to deal with obnoxious responses to your exciting news.  It's hard to know that someone's going to have a disappointing response.

My only advice is to try your best to not let their negativity bring you down.

Some people just like to rain on others' joy.  It has nothing to do with you.

  • Thanks for the response @mill1020. Someone else told me today that I should kind of preemptively thank them for their kindness since its surprising news. Something along the lines of, "We're expecting and are thrilled with you're happiness as its such surprising news to many".
  • When announcing the pregnancy of my second child, if someone were to make negative comments my favorite response was, "Oh no, it's okay! We're excited! We like kids!" with a huge smile. It isn't exactly a snarky response, but it immediately makes people take a step back because they realize they sound like a baby hater  :D
