Re: PAIF graduates - New Mommies - October

  • @Colleen0516 Our pediatrician recommends waiting until 6 months for all solids so that's what we're planning to do. Right now I'm trying to decide between doing purees or more of a baby led weaning approach, so I'm reading up on both. I think what we'll probably end up doing is trying out both and seeing what she prefers or does better with. I want to be prepared! How are solids going for you at this point?

@JWatt5 Awwwww, Parker is adorable! Also, great news about the endo!

@byrneme Arielle LOVED the love to dream swaddle! At about a month old she started fighting me on the swaddle but couldn't sleep without it due to the startle reflex. So we tried the LTD and it solved the issue. She suddenly started sleeping much longer stretches and just seemed more comfortable. We kept her in that until she started rolling at about 3 months, and at that point she didn't need a swaddle at all anymore.

  • @wifeinraleigh28 What are you reading (books, websites) for baby led weaning? We're leaning towards that, since it's seemed to work well for friends of ours. I'd love some good resources.
  • @omarismyhomeboy - how cute is that?!?!

@wifeinraleigh28 - rolling over at 3 months! Wowsa!! Zoey is so far away from that I feel lol. We really struggled with tummy time the first 2 months, she's just recently started accepting it and not fighting it. She's got great neck control but her arm strength needs work.

  • For those that have 10 month old-ish children: were having a bit of a napping issue over here. She used to go down like clockwork every three hours for two naps a day in her crib. She wakes up at 6am and she's napping by 9. It was so easy!! And now she doesn't want to nap in her crib. She will only nap if she's on a walk or car or even next to us. But even next to us it's a process. With cold weather coming it's going to be hard to go for walks. She's sleeping in her stroller now. I'm sure it's just a phase but any suggestions? She also shows tired signs and is cranky but just doesn't want to sleep in her bed. It's exhausting!! I don't think she's down to one nap a day yet but maybe??
  • My LO started to go down from 2 to 1 nap by 10,5 months.
If there was fussiness by putting her down I decided ok, not now maybe later. It was a tough period of transitioning with one nap, 1,5 or two naps. But we got through it :)

  • Sorry the pic is so big but we had a great first Halloween with our little princess!

    @omarismyhomeboy SO CUTE!!! Awww :heart:

@persnickity I joined some BLW facebook groups (Baby Led Weaning and Baby Led Weaning for Beginners) and checked out some blogs like this: https://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/babyledweaning.htm. Most of my friends said the FB groups were the most helpful for them rather than books or websites.

  • @omarismyhomeboy So cute!! @wifeinraleigh28 adorable!!

Eli had his 2 month well baby today. We were given the "ok" to thicken his formula with rice cereal. He spits up A LOT so the dr thought this might help. Anyone else have thoughts on using rice this early? Also anyone else having a hard time with back Sleeping? Eli sleeps so much better on his tummy but I of course won't let him if I don't have my eyes on him. I typically pit him down for the night on his side and turn him before I go to bed. But he wakes easily and it takes hours to get him down at night. Any suggestions?

  • @latershrader Patrick started around that time. We did half rice and half oatmeal. We did 1tsp per oz. It helped dramatically, he was a totally different baby. Just watch the fiber content because some have alot more and they can make them gassy. He gained weight fast also but at 6 months we are uding less cereal.

  • @Drove2u my twins transitioned to 1 nap around a year, so 10 months is not out of the realm of possibility, though I will second @tvh1982 the transition SUCKS. its rough for a few weeks and then they get into a new rhythm and its good again. Other thoughts... teething? DS is a fast teether but DD can take weeks or months on one tooth and it always throws her for a loop. or a growth spurt... that can muck with sleep schedules sometimes. One other resource that was helpful for us was the no cry sleep solution... it helped give us ideas of things to tweak to help the sleep process.

  • @latershrader At around the 2 month mark we switched Elle to the love to dream swaddle so she could have her arms up and she remained on her back the whole time comfortably and started doing long stretches at night... like maybe 6 hours or longer. It wasn't until she could roll over herself that she became a tummy sleeper, though I still always put her down on her back. What is Eli sleeping in?

  • @wifeinraleigh28 I ended up buying the Love to Dream swaddle. It should arrive today. Hopefully the new swaddle does the trick. He does seem to fight the traditional swaddle. Thanks for the recommendation!! It's also very timely because Eli started rolling over, front to back, this morning! The pediatrician said he'd be on the move soon because he is super strong and very active! So exciting!

  • Officially joining in! We had our son graham on nov 1st - went in to see if my water had broken (ummmm I can’t tell if I peed or not.. awkward phone call!), turns out it had ruptured but was a slow leak so my call was valid :), and we went in! Graham was born a few hours later.. perfect delivery, night and day different than my daughter (post partum hemoraghing with a blood transfusion). Truly amazing day, it was so neat to introduce our kids to each other. My daughter Elly (4) is curious, unsure, acting a litttle (lot) more sassy but honestly impressing me with how brave she's being. When we leave them be, she’s tickling him and showing off her toys, the sweetest. This week is just recovery and snuggling a tiny baby, but it’ll be good when we get into a rhythm and I can give my daughter one-on-one time again.

graham is a little boob man, I think he’d live in there if he could. Currently wants to nurse all night so we’re trying to break that but honestly I feel good for no sleep ;)

    glad I am finally here!!
  • Congratulations and welcome @Polythene Pam !! So happy to hear everything went smoothly and your little guy is happy and healthy!!

@byrneme I think who ever wants to starts the next months thread.

  • @latershrader Eep, exciting that he's rolling over! Did you get the love to dream 50/50 where the arms zip off? Once they start rolling they should have their arms free, at least one to start the transition, and then unzip them both.

    Welcome and congrats @Polythene Pam!
