Anyone been on methyldopa for gestational hypertension? I'm always nervous about new meds and the way they'll affect me- mostly worried I'll be dizzy the first few days and I drive a considerable amount to get to different jobs, which dizziness is not good for ! (Borderline hypochondriac here)
Exactly my fear, @ladythrice!! I can't keep up my current (perfectly acceptable) weight gain pattern AND do my typical third tri big gain. I'll cross my fingers for both of us.

Any experience with recurrent UTIs here?? I've had TWO this pregnancy (never had one in any previous pregnancies) and its driving me crazy. Doc says to "drink water" to avoid UTIs (seriously?!) so I've been googling that shit... I've added a glass of cranberry juice, a little cranberry pill supplement, and am thinking I should cut out my sweet tooth binges (apparently bacteria loves sugar...).
Has anyone else experienced this or have any tips??

@ladythrice I'm sorry that this is going to sound creepy but if you're not already, try sleeping without panties at night. That was recommended by a doctor and pretty much fixed the problem for me. Good luck, and ugh! They are so not fun.

@ngolimento & @dirtyboots Thanks y'all! I think I'm having the toughest time with 1). Not wanting to give up the snuggles and 2). Not being prepared to give up precious sleep while we make the adjustment. I know once I get through the first rough part it will probably be so much better for everyone, but...I just don't wanna! Her bedroom is also across the house from us, so that is making it difficult as well. I FINALLY invested in a good monitor (that's still currently int he box!) and I have a sound machine so hoping to put those two things to use soon. Although...I may drag my feet until my husband brings it up again, haha.

@lindsye LOL the advice comes off as hilarious... but makes sense. DH is going to get his hopes up.... Panty-free nights are clear indicators that its DTD time in our house... he's in for a surprise

The no panties policy is amazing for keeping away yeast infections as well! Apparently vaginas just need a little free range time to be at their best.
lol @ladythrice! And speaking of DTD (if you are currently actually doing it ), be sure to pee shortly afterwards - that's supposed to help with UTIs too.

@lindsye this is my 2nd pregnancy and I am gaining way faster. I'm pretty sure I'm at about a 20lb weight gain already and I can't stand it. I had gained 40 total with my first. I will be extremely unhappy (I already am weight wise) if I keep gaining and weigh more than I did the first time. I looked so gross in the hospital pictures.
@ladythrice also pomegranate juice is good for it's. Or at least that has been true for me.
@lindsye I'm gaining at a quicker rate this time as well. I was like you the first time. And honestly if it keeps up, I'm going to have a rough 3rd tri too. I'm hoping that I will be able to be a little more active in this tri than the first, so maybe it will slow down.
@psuxray07 I bet you are the only one who thinks you look gross in your hospital pictures - I mean, obviously most people who have just delivered a baby look like they, well, just delivered a baby but there's so much beauty in the pictures because of the beauty of the whole experience. I am definitely uncomfortable at the weight I usually end up at at the end of my pregnancies, though, so I hear you!

@lindsye I dunno, aside from the weight, I was so swollen, I guess from the 30+ hours of IVs? After a week, I could finally see my feet and ankle bones again, haha. I never see anyone else look like a balloon. But also my pictures are from NICU, they made us wait to hold him. I'm sure I'll get over it again because no matter the grossness I feel, having that baby in your arms is the best! I can work on the rest later!
Any STM/TTMs transition LO to a toddler bed prior to 2 years old?? DS2 will be 20 months when baby is born and I can't decide if I want to buy another crib for new baby or buy a toddler bed for DS2. There's an 8 year age difference between DS1 and DS2 so I didn't feel "rushed" for any transitioning with DS1.
@MrsF1017 I personally would skip the toddler bed at this age and go to a twin or full sized bed. Both of my kids went to a mattress on the floor around 12/13 months then added the the frame as they got older and could climb in/out Better. That said there was no large furniture in their room, only a crate of books and lovies. They slept way better in their big beds vs the crib. I liked the full because I can cuddle sick babies without feeling crowded and sneak out when they fall asleep.
@MrsF1017 we did this last year around 18 months. Like riversdoctor said she sleeps on a twin mattress on the floor and has had very few incidents of wandering, maybe a handful of times.
@MrsF1017 We transitioned DS to a toddler bed maybe 2 or 3 months ago now? He will be two next month. We kept his crib in his room but he slept in the toddler bed. We only took the crib out last weekend to get ready for the baby haha. I personally liked the toddler bed because it has half rails and it's not so big and his room is fairly small. Also we got the bed on a fb yardsale site for $35
Now that we found out we are having a girl, the "comments" are starting to roll in. How do those of you with a girl(s) handle the "girls are so much harder than boys....you have your hands full with a girl....wait until they are a teenager" type comments?
@jbn999 So I have a son, and I get comments like that about having a boy! Sorry that wasn't really helpful but I think people need to just keep their boy/girl opinions to themselves. Everyone is different
@ladythrice Make sure you get the cranberry juice that does not have sugar added otherwise it is counter productive! You are right about bacteria loving sugar.
Now that we found out we are having a girl, the "comments" are starting to roll in. How do those of you with a girl(s) handle the "girls are so much harder than boys....you have your hands full with a girl....wait until they are a teenager" type comments?
You get those comments no matter what sex you are having. Everyone is deeply convinced that boys/girls are SO much harder than the other. It's like it takes a mental giant to figure out that individuals are different with different personalities, regardless of their genitals. I have had people say "oh boys are SO much more high energy!". Uh, no, my neice leaves boys in the dust on a daily basis. Because it is her personality.
Also, I was a high energy tomboy as a kid, and my kid is the most civilized gentle soul I've ever met. It weirds me out on the daily, and makes it hard for me to connect with her.
@jbn999 just tell them every kid is different. Agree those comments are annoying because it really doesn't matter what's between the kids legs they are going to be who they are.
Thank you all for the UTI advice! Cut the sugar, drink the cranberry/pomegranate juice, pee after sex, and ditch the undies. I think I can handle that
@Jbn999, I have a DS and one DD. We just found out (yesterday!) baby #3 is a GIRL and the number of comments we've already gotten about how hard the teenage years are going to be drives me batty....
DS: EDD, December 19th, 2014. Born, December 19th, 2014! DD: EDD, July 18th, 2016. Born, July 19th, 2016!
ugh the boys and girls comments drive me bananas. Yesterday I told someone I was having a boy and she was like, oh course YOU'RE having a boy. I had to remind her I actually had nothing to do with generating the sex of this baby, HELLO!
Thanks ladies! With DS1 I waited until he was starting to climb out so I wasn't really sure about transitioning DS2 sooner. You guys made me feel better about it!!
People keep telling me "Maybe you'll get your girl this time!" as if DS were some sort of tragedy and I'm only having another one because I got the short end of the stick last time. People also love to tell me how I must have my hands full because boys are so wild and full of energy. DS is one of the calmest, gentlest kids I've ever met, but sure let's run with that gender stereotype.
Sorry I've been MIA. Work has me bogged down. As some of you know I had my harmony results come back inconclusive because there wasn't enough fetal dna. I had the test taken a second time last week. The doctor's office called and said the test came back inconclusive because my blood "clotted or something". I'm so angry. They've had the note on my file since Friday. Has anyone ever had two inconclusive results?
I get that finding out the sex is fun, sure, whatever. But honestly, I want to know my child is at low risk. The anxiety has been creeping up on me and I can't handle it. We did genetic testing with our other two children, so this just feels like new territory for me.
@BarefootContessa Wow, I'm so sorry to hear you are dealing with this. That explanation seems really bizzar to me. Did you actually speak to your Dr. or just a nurse? I would want to talk to your doctor directly about this. It seems like someone needs to call the lab to get to the bottom of what is really happening. I could be wrong but I think the NIPT will only work up until a certain point in your pregnancy. So that would be something to look into as well.
Thank you all for the UTI advice! Cut the sugar, drink the cranberry/pomegranate juice, pee after sex, and ditch the undies. I think I can handle that

@ladythrice side note: samesies on the kids. We had DS then DD (19 months apart -- same as yours, right?) and now we'll have another DD. The girls will be 17 months apart.
@BarefootContessa ugh, that is beyond frustrating. What are they suggesting you do about it at this point - just try a third time?? I would definitely want more information than what you've been given so far because it does seem really odd. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this anxiety!

Piggybacking on the crib transition question: DS is 2 years 9 months and has shown zero interest in moving from his crib. If we ask him about a "big boy bed" he'll say "I want a race car bed!" but I'm pretty sure that's only because he sees one at his home daycare. Like if we never mentioned it he'd never even talk about a big boy bed at all.
Do do we just leave him as-is for now? Or should I transition him just because of his age? He's not going to be sharing a room with any of his siblings even after baby arrives, so I'm not entirely convinced there's even a deadline for this. What say you, STM+?
@kmalls I would go ahead and do it for two reasons. One, you know you're going to have to do it sooner than later (because of his age), and in case there is any sleep regression associated with it, i'd want it well out of the way before baby #3. Also, the fact that he is not resistant to the idea right now would also make me want to go ahead and do it; 2 and 3 year olds can be pretty stubborn, unreasonable and unpredictable creatures (as I know you know!) so i'd be afraid he could at some point become attached to the crib and fight the transition. And that would be bad.

PARALELL LIVES?
@kmalls Bahahaha, YES! Except I told DH I was waiting at least 12 months post DD before trying to conceive baby #3. So 19 months between DS and DD1 and 21 months between DD1 and DD2 (SO CRAZY TO SAY DD2!). You are braver than I was with the 17 month gap!

@kmalls meh, I'm leaning towards, if it ain't broke, don't fix it??? The only thing that I would consider if I were you is how the transition could affect potty training. Do you plan to try to night train at the same time? If you do, you'll probably want him out of the crib. Whenever you plan to start training, maybe transition to a bed ahead of time, so its not too much change at once?
DS: EDD, December 19th, 2014. Born, December 19th, 2014! DD: EDD, July 18th, 2016. Born, July 19th, 2016!
@kmalls DS is 3.5 and we are just now moving him over. He never attempted to climb out and we didn't need the crib until now. But even know I am being kinda lazy about switching him. I need to get more hardcore about it.
@lindsye@ladythrice I've definitely been of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset for basically every single parenting issue ever, ha. I do think that @lindsye raises a good point about a sleep regression, which I may be able to deal with SLIGHTLY better right now in 2nd tri (as opposed to later in the pregnancy or with a newborn).
FFTuC? We still haven't started potty training. Every time I talk to him about it, he's all NOPE. I don't want to force it, which goes to @ladythrice's point about transitioning to a bed ahead of PTing.
So so I guess the verdict is to transition sooner than later. Thank you both for your help!!

@allowachick Ugh I'm with you on the post nasal drip! I've been taking Claritin since week 8 and it's making a moderate difference. My OB said it's just an unfortunate pregnancy symptom from all the increased fluids. I think it contributes to my nausea and vomiting more than anything! I had the same thing the entire pregnancy with my DD and it stopped right after I gave birth
