I love this thread, I hope we get a lot of answers. I have a few, trying to think of the best. One that isn't necessarily "ghosty" but definitely makes me smile is that my grandpa always used to whistle "Oh What a Beautiful Morning", so someone bought him a music box that played it. They kept it up on top of their china cabinet. After he died, my grandma was opening their safety lock box thing with the important documents in it, and out of nowhere, the music box (still on top of the china cabinet that there is no way my 4'9" grandma would be able to reach) started playing.
Other ones from my ex-boyfriend's house that was 104 years old at the time. One of his cats was a total spaz and would stand in the same corner at the top of the stairs and just jump up and down repeatedly for minutes at a time. There were a few times I thought I heard footsteps up there while alone in the house. Also, one night while we were sleeping, we heard his computer turn off and on (remember Windows or whatever used to have the little jingle tune thing?) Lastly, one morning I woke up to get ready for work, and as I was leaving, looked at the clock on the stove and realized it was an hour earlier than I thought it was. I woke my boyfriend up, yelling at him for pulling a prank and setting the alarm clock ahead an hour, and the look on his face-I knew he hadn't done it. The next day it did it again, except it was two hours ahead.
Oh, I just remembered one more. There's actual video evidence of it, but unfortunately it's not on my phone. In the ER we had an area in the back we once used as a Chest Pain Observation Unit (people who were low risk chest pains that we would do a stress test on in the morning, and then discharge if it turned out okay.) So many nurses that would be back there with the patients on night shift would complain of weird noises coming from the same room-it sounded like the buttons on the bed being pushed (like to make the head of the bed go up and down) or it would sound like someone clicking the mouse buttons on the computer in the room, all when the room was empty. We eventually stopped using the area for patients, and mostly used it for storage. One of the nurses was walking past it one night and heard a TV on, so she went to see who was in there. No one was, but the TV in one of the rooms kept turning off and on, off and on, off and on by itself. She came to get other people to see it (one of the other nurses recorded it on her phone), and then the channels started flipping super fast, again by itself. It stopped on this channel of a creepy guy just laughing in the most evil, bone-chilling way, and then turned off again. Needless to say, we hated going back there.

I've got some good ones! I'll start off with some quick background info. I grew up on a farm that was established in 1796 (yes, 211 years ago) and part of the house I grew up in is just as old. It's been added onto over the generations, but most of the ghost stories occur in the original cabin part. The house is old, so naturally there's lots of creaks and groans. I have on several occasions heard footsteps walking across the upstairs floor when no one else was home.
When my mom and dad were dating, she had come over for a quick hello before they went on a date. It was around Christmas-time, so the house was decorated. Dad had left to use the bathroom and Mom was in the living room by herself. Suddenly, an ornament came flying off the tree (that was on the total opposite end of the room) and shattered at her feet. We figure it was an ancestor who was testing her out.
Another time, my mom and my older brother (I wasn't even a thought yet at the time) were alone in the house upstairs. She heard the front door open and footsteps walking through the house. It was too early for it to be Dad, so she thought maybe it was the farmhand. She hollared for him, but didn't hear a reply. She crept downstairs to find no one in the house. The front door was still locked.
There's also a legend on a neighboring farm about a man called Mr. Smoot. He would make nightly rounds to check on the animals carrying around a lantern. One morning, his remains were found in the hog pen. They guessed he must have fallen in and the hogs attacked him. It's said you can still see the a light wandering the land at night. 8 years ago, we had a big Halloween party at the house. A few party-goers decided to get out the ouija board and they reportedly spoke to him. I personally am a skeptic when it comes to them, but I refuse to touch one lol. They also decided it would be "fun" to go exploring on the property (we're good friends with the current family owners) and try to find him. Nothing was found, but it was pretty spooky with a full moon.
TW Loss mentioned in this next story
We found out we were expecting our first child in September 2013, but unfortunately miscarried at 5.5 weeks. We bought our house in November 2014. DH has reported hearing child's laughter in the house at night. This was before we got pregnant with DD. Our grandmother clock would also start ticking on its own sometimes. I like to think maybe it's our angel baby visiting us.
End TW story
Last one I'll post. Before we moved, DH was taking a shower and I was sitting in the floor watching TV. I saw something out of the corner of my eye and saw what looked like a round shadow, kind of like a balloon, rise up beside my shadow from the light in the kitchen and go back down again. I ran to the bathroom and refused to be in a room without DH the rest of the night lol.
I've actually got one more! When I was in college, supposedly the dorm room I was in was haunted by a student who had hung herself decades ago. I didn't believe it because all the buildings on campus had some sort of "student/professor killed themselves and haunt the building" story. DH and I were dating and he'd come over. The door was closed and locked. Suddently, the door banged, almost like it had been opened all the way and slammed closed. Also, the CD changer on my roommates boombox (millennials don't know what they're missing lol!) would open, spin, and close over and over. The TV would also cut on and off several times. I finally was convinced that there was some sort of paranormal activity going on in that room. We roomed together the next year in a different building and didn't have any of the problems with the same electronics.
I am open to paranormal experiences but usually respond with skepticism to most stories because I've never experienced anything. And I've gone looking.
MH does have a story of his own which I do believe because he is also a skeptic and multiple people can corroborate. He can tell it better than me since I wasn't there but I will try...
He stated that when he was younger, there was a birthday party for one of his cousins and when they were going through the pictures there were two people they did not recognize: a man so tall his head appeared cut off by the door frame, and a little girl who looked really sad sitting next to DH's grandma. No one could identify these people. His aunt went a little crazy at that point (she suffers from undiagnosed mental health) and began taking pictures and videos of the whole house constantly, seeing things that were definitely not there. DH spent a lot of time at this aunt's house as one cousin was the same age as him so they were close friends. One day the aunt was making them watch the video from the night before. DH makes the story funny at this point cause he said it was embarrassing in the video he was talking about his "giant ass goldfish" and saying stupid kid stuff. DH says after everyone went to bed all of a sudden (in the video) this large shadow figure which appeared human shape but yet misshapen stood up from behind their counter, it was abnormally tall if it was human, reached towards the cabinets, quickly turned as if looking towards the camera (like it had been caught) and then like falls down, kind of like melting to the ground. DH says it freaked him the fuck out so he left immediately and didn't go back to his aunt's house for awhile. His aunt then started having priests and people to bless and exorcise the house (her mental health included intense religious fanaticism) and after that it all stopped. His aunt finally calmed down after awhile and when he told me this story I asked him and his family if I could see the pictures and video and they said they got rid of it for his aunt's sanity. I've been in that house but never spent the night and never felt anything weird. There's no story of anyone dying in the house or anything so if this is all true the origin is unknown. Again, I believe DH and if it wasn't for my trust in him and knowing he is also a skeptic I probably would be skeptical of this story.
There's a ghost in my house. We hear random stuff happening in our kitchen in the middle of the night, and often times all of the drawers and cabinets will be open the next morning. Sometimes we hear things in the attic, but I have a feeling that's just squirrels. We've been in this house for two years now and it doesn't do anything else to mess with us so it's nbd.
@zizzabell523, your dorm story reminded me that we also had the "haunted because someone had killed themselves/been murdered in our room" dorm room, and the only weird thing that happened was one night our answering machine kept going off in the middle of the night by itself, even though no one was calling us. @charlestonchew That's super creepy. I don't think I would ever go to that house, either. @ivyvines6 I found that when I would hear footsteps or whatever in my ex-boyfriend's house, I would totally not be creeped out, as one would imagine you would be in that situation, because I found myself justifying it by telling myself it was just an old house settling. Do you do that too, or does this activity totally creep you out?
There was one night I was home alone in my bedroom and I swear I heard someone open our door, or jiggle the doorknob like it was locked (it was) and they were trying to open it. So I texted MH and asked if he'd come home early, because it was a few hours before I was expecting him. He said no, so I started freaking out, grabbed the knife out of his bedside table and went downstairs to explore. There was, of course, nothing there and I still to this day don't know what caused it. It was super windy that night, but it would've been weird for the doorknob to jiggle that way from the wind. But I was more freaked out thinking someone was trying to break in as opposed to a ghost that night. I love all these stories!!! Keep 'em coming, people!

@sandbar517 I'm the same way now and we do occasionally hear weird noises in the basement but being a major skeptic I'm sure it's just the house settling but worry way more about someone breaking in than a ghost.
The old place we used to live in I fucking hated that basement and it gave me the absolute creeps but nothing ever happened. But it was this intense feeling with no explanation. I wouldn't even walk up the stairs forward, I would walk up backwards.
When I was younger my furby (remember furbies?) started going off non stop in the middle of the night and we had to actually take the batteries out and bang on it to get it to stop. I'm pretty sure furbies are just evil, though.
@charlestonchew Your furbie story reminded me that I used to have a baby doll in a walker with a remote control. It would laugh in the middle of the night when both the walker and the remote were turned off. I even took the batteries out of both and if the antennas touched, it would start moving. Needless to say, that toy landed in the giveaway pile. I never told my parents because I figured they wouldn't believe me.
@sandbar517 tbh I'll be the first person to admit I have an overactive imagination. My great aunt would let us watch horror movies at a really young age and it's messed with me in really bad ways as an adult. With that being said, I don't justify what I hear as something else, but I do focus on being comfortable with it happening. It tends to make whatever is going on cease quicker. (I also still sleep with a nightlight )
I think I'm actually a skeptic because these people I used to hang out with were obsessed with "ghost hunting" and they loved going to cemeteries and taking pictures and trying to find anything creepy or ghost like. They'd shove pictures in my face and be like "oh my god that's an orb!" It got old after awhile and it was so much I just stopped caring.
@charlestonchew MH laughs at me all the time. I'm constantly watching ghost shows, and did the whole "taking pictures on the ghost tour in Gettysburg looking for creepy things" thing. Now, when the baby monitor is on in night mode (that alone is creepy enough, the way it makes their eyes glow!), I'm constantly pointing at it and yelling, "Orb! I saw an orb!!" He just laughs, but now it makes me wonder if Abby really IS seeing something! Just like they say on the ghost shows, dust particles don't stop and change directions mid-air.... When she said the ghosts in her room look like animals, I told MH that maybe it's the ghost of our dog that just died a few months ago. He always loved being in their room for some reason, especially if there was a thunder storm or some other anxiety inducing event for him. OMG, this just totally reminded me of another story! (See? I could talk about this kind of stuff all day!)
*TW family loss*
I know I've mentioned it before, but my dad very suddenly and unexpectedly died 10 days before my girls were born. He was SO super excited to have twin granddaughters, he talked about them all the time, and couldn't wait to meet them.
*end TW*
One night when my girls were a few weeks/months old, I was sitting in bed with my back against the headboard, tandem feeding them in the football hold, so they were both facing me. At the same exact time, both of them focused on the same spot above my right shoulder, then their eyes followed whatever it was they were watching over my head to above my left shoulder, and then back across to above my right shoulder. The only windows in the room are on the same wall they were looking at, so people try to say maybe it was the reflection of headlights outside, but they wouldn't be on the same wall as the windows, and we also have black blackout curtains in the windows that were pulled shut, so there's no way they could've seen lights through them, either. Their focus was much higher, too, like they were almost looking at the ceiling. It really freaked me out.
*kinda TW family loss* It freaked me out at first, but then I told myself it was just my dad checking on the girls and saying hi to them, and I actually found it brought me a lot of comfort. *end kinda TW*

TW family loss as well and this post is not a ghost story
I lost my dad when I was 11 and this was not sudden but I always hoped to have an after death experience with him but alas I have not. I've even considered seeing a medium but I'm too afraid they'd be a quack. I did have one dream after his death but unfortunately it wasn't even a happy dream...
I do like to think it was a parting dream though because I've never had one since. I feel compelled to tell the dream so here goes: he was on a big boat and I was on a small boat following him on a river. I made it over to his boat to say hello but he didn't know who I was and I became distraught he didn't recognize me. I just woke up crying but maybe it was his passage into the afterlife and was meant to give me peace...
Sorry to derail the thread. Carry on with the ghosts!
@charlestonchew There are a lot of good articles about how people who have died send signals to their loved ones who are still alive. I've also had a few dreams about my dad-some good, some not- but to me, it's smaller things like when a song he liked plays on the radio, or if I hear someone say something that sounds like something he would say, I like to think it's him sending me a message that he's thinking of me and that he's okay. Also sorry to derail the thread, carry on!

Oh wow y’all have some good ones! I had the same furby issue. Those things are evil.
Yall get your popcorn and snacks. It’s gonna be a long one.
So let me preface this with a little info on my stepdads uncle: he was a very wealthy, but very generous man, who didn’t give a damn about what people thought or how his words came out. He started the restaurant that was passed down to my family. Every day at lunch he would go eat at the restaurant and sit at the 12 top alone. Even when he couldn’t see anymore, he’d make it across the street to the restaurant. He liked to be there and be in charge.
He passed away the day before Father’s Day a few years ago. Right after he passed, there was an electrical issue in the restaurant and one of the brand new coolers blew. The electrician said he had never seen anything like it and it wasn’t really possible for it to have happened like it did. They were able to easily fix it when the entire cooler should have been replaced. We like to think it was my stepdad’s first big challenge he left him to see how he’d handle his restaurants.
One day, we were sitting in my mom and stepdads house across the road from him. We were talking about things he used to do when the locked front doors opened up.
My my mom and stepdad ended up buying his house and renovating it. My daughter loves to play peekaboo and talk and giggle to the corner where his big recliner was. She’s done this since she was tiny.
Its a nice way to still have him here.
Okay now the not so nice stories. We had some crazy shit going down in our house for a little while.
My daughter would wake up SCREAMING at the same time every single night. For months. Not like I’m hungry screaming but terrified.
One day, I’m laying in bed while she naps in her bedroom. Our house is a split plan and you can see the living room from our bedroom. All of a sudden, her walker starts going off. I went and switched it off and went back to lay down. A few minutes later it starts going off again. Freaked out, i threw it in the garage and then went back to my room. I had our Amazon Echo in the master bathroom. Alexa starts randomly talking in my quiet house. She gets unplugged and moved to the garage. I looked on the app and it had no record of her talking.
Nothing else weird happened until that night. I had a glass of wine that I finished and handed to my husband to put on his nightstand. It was completely empty. We go to bed and I wake up suddenly at 3am. I go to the bathroom And when I walked around the bed there was a HUGE stain on the carpet. Like HUGE. I’m like HOW THE F IS THERE WINE ALL OVER THE CARPET. I flip on the lights and the empty glass is still sitting on the nightstand. My husband doesn’t drink wine. I start freaking out and searching me my husband and our dogs for cuts or something that could cause this big red stain on the carpet. Nothing. Everyone’s fine. We cleaned it up and somehow there was absolutely no stain after. And we have white carpet.
I saged the house and we haven’t had any issues since. I know I sound insane telling the story but it freaked me the hell out and I still can’t figure out what happened.
DH and I are convinced our last house was haunted. He bought it a year before we met, we started dating and I always got creepy vibes in that house, when I moved in I finally said to him "babe, this hallway really freaks me out" and he was like "me too, it feels like someone is watching me". That is exactly how it felt. Our dogs would randomly bark and growl in that hallway, and were constantly on edge and would haul ass down it to get to our room. I hung a picture in the hallway and it would fall daily, I finally gave up and took it off the wall. My oldest daughter was afraid to walk in the hallway to her room at night, then when my youngest daughter was a baby would would refuse to crawl by that hallway, and avoided it. Both of my girls would freak out at bedtime their bedrooms were on opposite ends of that hallway. As DD2 got older and started talking my mom was babysitting one night, she was in hysterics about having to go to bed and told her the scary man watches her sleep from the hallway, so my mom let her sleep in the living room. I don't know what happened in that house, or that hallway, I even tried to look up the history of it, but was never able to find anything. That street we lived on though was rumored to have a lot of paranormal activity, it was in the middle of a very old neighborhood. I was so happy when we sold that house and moved.
This is probably my best one and it's a happy ghost story, not so creepy. My grandma (dad's mom) passed when I was 10 and never met my youngest brother. In our house at the time, the front door/entryway was separated from the family room by the enclosed basement steps, so you couldn't see the door from the family room. We were all in the family room and my 2 year old brother walked around the corner to the entryway. He was there for a couple minutes and when he came back he walked right up to my dad, looked at him and said, "your mom is here. She wants to see the baby." No one said a word, we just all looked at each other.
In our old apartment, we had 2 bedrooms, so DD1 had her own room. I would often see something float past the screen on the monitor. Could be dust or a bug. Just odd. I haven't seen anything like that in our new house yet.
When I was in middle school I was visiting a friend from where we used to live for a few days. She had a finished basement and we hung out there before going to bed in her room on the second floor. We had watched the movie Cry Wolf that night. We turned the movie and the TV off and went up to bed. We woke up a couple hours later to music blaring and freaked out we made our way to the basement. No one else woke up. Her karaoke machine that we didn't even use that night was on and the volume turned the whole way up and the TV was on white noise, volume also all the way up.
I don't know if there's any truth to this, but an old girl scout leader told us at one of those overnighters that her house was built on some cemetery and all of her kids experienced almost being strangled in their sleep on multiple occasions.
June '14 February Siggy Challenge
Picture of DH and I on top of Mayan ruins, Altun Ha, in Belize
I have a few.... When I was a little girl my little sister had this doll who was a ballerina. Her hand was over her head holding a rose. You would hold the rose and turn her on and she'd walk forward on her toes and you could make her do a turn. Her batteries were dead and so we hadn't played with her in a while. One night our parents had made us clean the playroom before bed (which was downstairs) I remember she was on the floor and I put her away in the toy box. We then went upstairs and went to bed. About 3 in the morning I was woken up by a strange noise. I woke my sister up to see if she heard it too. We got out of our beds (we shared a room) and there in the middle of our floor was the ballerina doll. She was laying face down on the floor and the strange sound that had woken me up was her legs kicking the wooden floor like they would when you'd make her walk. I grabbed her and she immediately stopped. Her batteries were dead and she was switched off. We got rid of her after that.
I had been trying to TTC DS1. It was testing day and I had gotten a BFN. I was bummed but thought oh well maybe next month. I had gone to bed that night and had a dream where my grandfather (who died when I was in middle school) came to me and told me I was pregnant and should take a test. I immediately woke up. It was so real feeling but I brushed it off as me just wanting to be pregnant so badly. So I rolled over and went back to sleep. I had the exact same dream but this time he was more persistent that I was pregnant and that I should take a test. Again I woke up. It was 3:30 in the morning and I couldn't stop thinking about it so I thought I'll just take another test to ease my mind so I can go back to sleep. I did and it was positive.
Another one... One day I picked DS1 from daycare and we were in the car driving home. He started giggling, babbling and playing peek a boo. I asked him who he was playing with back there just kinda laughing with him (because it was only me and him in the car) and he turned and looked at me and said Uncle Paul. DS1 had never met Uncle Paul or seen pictures of him. He died several years before I was even pregnant with him.

*kinda TW family loss*
It freaked me out at first, but then I told myself it was just my dad checking on the girls and saying hi to them, and I actually found it brought me a lot of comfort.
