Maternity Jeans

I’m sure this is in the maternity clothes thread, but specifically which jeans are your favorites from STMs?

My work is now casual since my first child so need to invest in a good pair.  I have a Gap semi panel jean- are the full panels better?

Re: Maternity Jeans

  • I would go try some on and see what fits you best. I love full panels but there are plenty of people who don't. I think it's all in your body type. under belly ones fit me wrong because I am short.

  • I splurged on a pair of Paige maternity jeans my first pregnancy & still love them this time around. They aren't a full panel, they just have a little elastic on each side, which I really loved. Definitely try on a few styles to see what you're most comfortable with.

  • I'd personally steer away from Motherhood's maternity jeans, at least the "skinny" fit.  I had to buy a size up to even hope to get them past my thighs (which wasn't the case for any of Motherhood's other pants), and they just hit at a weird angle that makes them fall throughout the day and generally feel super uncomfortable.
  • I actually really like the H&M ones.  I like the stretchier ones with the full panel.  I got a size up, bc I get bigger by the end and want to wear them for until the end of pregnancy.  Usually, they have a code for 40% off one regular priced item that brings down the cost.

I am 5'1", very thin upper body with a strong base. Jeans are a pain for me bc of the back gap and other nonsense. Because of living in South Florida heat, I basically never splurge on pants.

But, I've tried on a bunch of pants at Motherhood. Full panel annoy me but they seem to have a better fit.

Try Indigo Blue (I have an underbelly pair that's awesome) from Motherhood. If you try on enough pairs from there, you'll find something. Plus, their clearance prices are unbeatable.
  • I have a medium and a large pair of the same full panel jeans from motherhood, and they are extremely comfy, but the mediums are a smidge too tight and the large stretch out and slide down during the day. But they work, and they are far better than the $200 pea in the pod jeans!!! I think two pairs were $40

  • Old Navy has a great selection! And go with full panel!
  • I love H&M full panel jeans. The super stretchy ones. I have bought 5-6 pairs over my pregnancies, and will never go back. I MAY wear them even when not pregnant. No shame!
  • How...HOW are you ladies handling the full panels?? I have a few pair that drive me bonkers and I have zero idea what to do with them after pregnancy.

I still wear all of my maternity clothes when not pregnant so I would love ideas on what to do with this panel crap.
  • @barrelocarol, I'd think you can fold the panel down, but at least in my experience, those jeans tend to be more saggy than normal jeans. But that could just be my body type.
  • I love Old Navy’s jeans with the full panel! I wore them when I was pregnant with #1 and I’m wearing them again with #2.

  • @barrelocarol my maternity jeans fit snug like my regular jeans.  Not too tight, but enough that they are comfortable and not too saggy.  Of course, they aren't perfect, but they are way more comfortable to me than the small panel.  After pregnancy, in the those first few weeks, I feel like the full panel kind of smooths my squishy stomach out as my body adjust. I will often times where tummy control stuff or the binders shortly after birth, so the panels act as barrier over those making the appearance look smoother.  I lose a lot of weight in the first few weeks (usually from fluid retention), so I only stay in my maternity jeans a few weeks after pregnancy.
  • @barrelocarol I'll be honest, I hate the way the half panel shows under a fitted top. That's 85% of why I like full panel better. The other (probably more practical) 15% of why I chose full panel is because I didn't think the under belly stayed up as well in late pregnancy and I didn't want to buy twice.

  • I love the H&M jeans- full panel. I wore them when I was pregnant with my son and definitely wore them after he was born (for way longer than I’m willing to admit). I’ve tried the ones with the elastic band and found them really uncomfortable. The H&M panel is a thicker than some other brands, but I like it because it feels more durable.
  • Ya my half panel folds over from my belly when I’m sitting and so annoying at work! My SIL and sister both recommended the AG jeans from Pod but no way I’m spending 200 on jeans!  I may just try my Gap version and order the full panel online.  I have no time to get to a store to try on.
  • With my first kiddo, I was able to wear the under the belly pants more, but after that it was all full panel. I have had multiple c-sections and anything that pokes at those scars annoy the crap out of me.
The only downside to the full panel for me is the itchyness. My tummy gets itchy as it expands and the full panel doesn't help that.
This time around I have been wearing more leggings and dresses/tunics.
I have had the best luck with Target and Motherhood for pants and jeans. Most other places the panels stretch over the course of the day and I felt I was always pulling up my pants.
  • If anyone is still in that in between stage that your regular button pants are getting uncomfortable and you're not quite ready to buy maternity pants.. I highly suggest the jeggings from Walmart. They are Faded Glory brand, have multiple colors, cheap, and so comfortable. I had actually bought some about 6 months ago in a couple different colors for work, and I have been wearing them very frequently. I have now added a maroon color and a denim too since getting pregnant. I am hoping to make them last quite a while!
  • @npkat YES GIRL to the jeggings. I hate wearing pants, even when not pregnant, so jeggings and leggings are my pregnancy saviors.
  • I caved- bought AG pair from Pea and Pod for 150 bucks.  Justified it- I wear jeans every day to work, plus weekends so I’ll get good use.
  • Are the H&M ones available in the store or online only? I love my old navy ones but now you can only buy them online, at least the one near me has a sign saying that.
  • @slr1229 my BFF bought those and she wore them through 2 pregnancies. They’re what she recommended to me but I haven’t had time to go to the PITP near me to try them on.
  • @baybeesunflower H&M is also online only, there might be exceptions at some big flagship stores but someone at the one closest to me said just online.
  • I caved and bought some at Motherhood. I don't love that place's style, but I felt like with my changing bod I needed to try jeans on. I was skeptical of the SML sizing, but they have lengths and several cuts (boot, strait leg, skinny). Unfortunately they only had one pair my size of the cut I liked in store, so I still wound up ordering on line.
Also, I tried dept stores - Kohl's maternity was mostly left over summer stuff and it was jammed into the baby clothes section which pissed me off. Macy's was Motherhood branded stuff! and jammed into the plus size section! Which also pissed me off.  Ugh.

  • @ksmwalters I got them in but they fit weird, they are like not tall enough to cover my butt where the panel starts!  I need to go try on but ugh- that takes time and weekends are already so short!!
  • The maternity jeans I have been living in are on sale at motherhood maternity.  They are on sale for like $7.  The jeans are for the short chicas.  It's the Jessica Simpson petite indigo boot cut ones.

  • I’m having a really hard time with pregnancy pants! I bought one pair of stretch maternity jeans (full panel) from old navy and I just HATE them! I’m thicker in the thighs and butt and they just ride down constantly in the crotch and look stupid. What’s a girl to do? They all seem to be this style, more or less.
