Septate or Bicornuate Uterus

Hey everyone! I’m pretty new to the IF boards and haven’t seen any discussions about this topic.
Today was our first RE appointment. During the U/S she saw two cavities she said it could be a septate, which can be shaved down and is a fairly simple procedure or it could be a bicornuate uterus in that case we will go straight to IVF. My cousin had a bicornate uterus and TW both of her children she could not carry to term END TW. I won’t know for sure until I have my HSG test which will be in approximately 10 days.  Here are my questions:
 EDITED
For anyone who has had a septate uterus how was the procedure ?

For anyone with a bicornate uterus? What is the protocol?

I think she said if it is bicornuate I will be going straight to IVF.

Re: Septate or Bicornuate Uterus

  • A few of us are dealing with secondary infertility, but most women here have not had successful pregnancies and therefore can't answer your questions. You'll probably get better answers on the PAIF board or tri boards. Good luck.

@tosh24  Ok just wanted to know if anyone had gone through what I’m going through or know anyone who has. All feedback is welcome. Or maybe someone to empathize what I’m going through. I edited it to fit the rules my apologies
  • @ndz2018 I have a septate uterus and I will be having surgery to have the septum removed November 7th.  So I can't say anything about how the procedure is right now. :)

When I had my HSG they thought initially that it was bicornuate so I had a saline u/s to verify.  The saline U/S showed that I actually have a septate uterus.  I did 3 IUI cycles which all failed but my doctor is fairly sure that they failed because of hubs low count rather than the septum.  I will be moving on to IVF in January and my doctor and I decided that it was best to remove the septum before that just to ensure that it isn't a problem.

  • @ndz2018 A friend of mine had a septate uterus. She had surgery and was benched for 1-2 cycles afterward as it healed. Once she was off the bench, she was able to get pregnant right away.

I'm confused about why a bicornuate uterus would send you directly to IVF. I thought the risks of bicornuate uterus were in carrying, not in getting pregnant -- namely the high risk of miscarriage, ectopic, preterm labor, breech baby, etc.

  • @ndz2018, as @adirat 's post so helpfully reminded my, after my surgery I have to take 2 cycles off and then in January we will be able to continue with the process!  I've seen some people who have only had to take a single cycle off so it probably depends on the doctor.

@adirat @marfi236 Not sure why she would move to IVF it was our first consultation and I am 37, she pretty much told us even before the test if she finds one thing wrong with SO, who is 42, or I it’s straight to IVF. She doesn’t want to waste any time. I’ll have more time to ask questions after my HGS test and Saline Sono. Maybe to bypass the risks of eptopic? IDK I’ll know more after my tests... still waiting for AF to come to get my CD3 tests! Of course the one time I wanted it to come on time it doesn’t lol
