@rallykat14 I’m so so sorry friend. We are here for you. I wish there were something to say to take the pain away. All of the hugs
@kiwi2628 I laughed at your gif! You’re getting so close!
@adirat girl I’m very sorry that you’re dealing with this right now. will be thinking of you, we are here when you need us and I’m always available for venting and support
@KristoKekerooni I’ve made the switch to glass, trying to convert to all natural cleaning/body products, eating all organic foods, switched to bpa free canned foods (beans, diced tomatoes, etc), and trying to make healthier food choices. I have always had high cholesterol since I was a kid, I’m normal weight and typically eat healthy but it’s always been that way. My nutritionist at my fertility clinic also favors fats for fertility. I had to get a biometrics screening at work for my health insurance (I work for a hospital) so cholesterol levels were a part of it they were on the low end of high. I got this done in August. I met with the nutritionist early sept. I made the changes and went for routine BW with my PCP and my cholesterol levels rose quite a bit in the month. Needless to say no more full fat dairy products as was recommended for me.
Love tits to all. I’m on mobile so it’s hard to comment! I’m excited to see some other January IVF peeps here! Woohoo!
Diagnosis (If you've been): unexplained
Cycle/CD: who knows anymore
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): On BCPs
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?)
Hysteroscopy on Friday
How are things going?
Things are going okay. Had a phone consult with my RE today. He said the BCPs is to keep my lining thin for surgery Friday and that I can stop it on Thursday night. Should get AF 3-5 days later and will go back into a regular cycle. We will try on our own and if I’m not a SS we will start stimming for IVF early January.
Any questions?
Nope

Spin the bottle in 6th grade. I will never forget that after it I had his gum in my mouth but was too embarrassed to say anything so I chewed it with pride. How romantic
@rallykat14 - My heart is totally broken for you. I am so sorry you are sitting here, facing this. I wish I had the words to make everything better for you.
@JuneRoseRuby , @LadyMillil , @rallykat14 , @beachbunnyxo123 - Thanks for all the advice, guys. I haven't really started reading it, but I will today. We will see what changes I need to make. Unfortunately in this tiny town, we don't have any Whole foods or anything like that, so my options are Walmart or Amazon. /Shrug. I will see what I can find on Amazon. I have a hunch we are lucky since we already follow a lot of what you guys say the book recommends. We only use glass, we actually don't eat any canned or highly-processed food (we eat mostly meat and veggies). I didn't think about cleaning products. We use meyers... but I don't think that's on the "clean" list? I dunno. We will see. How long do they say you should make changes in advance? We are doing IVF in January, so I probably can't afford to introduce slowly.

@shortstack930 I hope these two weeks go by very quickly for you. (Dang, that first kiss guy does sound like a jerk! Yeesh.) @Avrilmai Aww, your H sounds so sweet. His optimism is lovely! @50Wife This ish is totally exhausting, that's for sure. I know you've been on your own roller coaster over there. I hope all goes well on Friday. @laurad75 Woo hoo! It's always awesome to get the calendar. It's such a good feeling to be done with all the donor paperwork, too. @JuneRoseRuby Interesting about the Clomid. I didn't know it had an impact on the LP, but I guess it makes sense. I hope this is your cycle! @beachbunnyxo123 Sounds like a good plan moving forward. I hope your surgery goes smoothly. @KristoKekerooni Generally they recommend 3 months in advance to get your body to a "therapeutic level," but I guess as with most of these things, the sooner the better. @rallykat14 I am so, so sorry that your beta was negative. It's absolutely devastating that we can go through these "checklists" of how to get through IVF and FETs, only to have a BFN at the end of the day. I know that feeling of personal failure when the outcome isn't what you expect, even if deep down you know it's not your fault at all. If you need anything at all during this time, don't hesitate to PM me. I'll be thinking of you

How are things going? Apparently after a year and a half DH has finally decided to start reading up on all things TTC, and I think he may have officially become the BSC one. Who would have thought we would reach the day where he is the one frantically googling "3rd IUI success stories".
Any questions?

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) DH just did his semen analysis on Monday. I just had so many viles of blood drawn I thought I was gonna pass out. I know they did FSH, LH Estradol etc. Not sure what the others were.
How are things going? Pretty devastaing. RE just called me with DH's semen analysis results and it's so bad. Everything was either abnormal or out of standard range. And to top it off there were no results for half of the labs because there were no sperm. ZERO. In the whole sample. He's been referred to the urologist because that's who handles male infertility at Kaiser. I'm supposed to have my HSG done Friday but at the moment I don't see the point. I don't even know if DH will want to go to the urologist for more tests anyway. This may be the end of our TTC journey. My insurance covers infertilty treatment but I honestly don't feel like we are up to it.
Any questions?
GTKY: Tell me about your first kiss. It was awkward AF. My BF had tried to kiss me 1000 times and I was an expert at turning it in to a hug instead lol (oh, Jr High memories). One day he caught me off guard and got me! We were standing in a hall and his back was to a mirror. I had my eyes wide open so yea, I basically stared at myself kissing him until it was over. Super awkward and kind gross. He had a big tongue (bleck).
I am also a big fan of Native deodorant. It's the best paraben free I have found and the scents are nice. I'm blanking on the Shampoo and Conditioner I've been using but its made in Australia which has much higher ingredient restrictions than in the US so I'm comfortable with it.
Big news today - I got my calendar. I start lupron on Saturday, The donor starts her injections on 11/15 and the ER is anticipated to be 11/25-11/29. My transfer will be 3-5 days after that. I'm so nervous and excited. God I hope this works!

@margorita30 I’m so sorry about your disappointing SA result. We are a MFI family as well. After months of testing from multiple zero count SAs, we learned that my husband has a genetic condition. Although our doctors had hoped that they could find sperm with a surgery (TESE), we still didn’t find any sperm. However, my husand’s condition is quite rare and they can often find normal/usable sperm through different procedures in other MFI cases. (We ended up using a known donor and are waiting for a frozen embryo transfer in December.) I know how heartbreaking and frustrating it is to get these results, but there are still many options for you in this case. Our reproductive urologist was great and really helped us to understand our options and potential steps. Feel free to PM me if you ever have questions or need someone to talk to about MFI.

How are things going? Had my first ovary check today. the lady was so nice and explained everything she saw. No cysts which is good. Tried to use GoodRx but the code wasn't working. So I had to drive to Target but thankfully it worked there. I have follie check next Wednesday. I'm worried about over-responding
Any questions? How many days had you taken Letrozole before you felt the side effects?
GTKY: Tell me about your first kiss. I was in first grade and the boy I had a crush on kissed me underwater in his pool. But my first real kiss was when I was 15 after my boyfriend and I watched the UF/FSU football game
What are you doing this cycle? More testing for clotting and a few genetic topics, plus eating my way around China :-)
How are things going? The first three weeks of this cycle were a nightmare, I hated progesterone with a passion and my body took forever to come down. I have no idea when or if I Od for the first time in 30 cycles. Though DH has had a great time HIO just in case as often as possible- plus we're on vacation this week, so why not have all the fun possible! I'm keen to get started on IVF cycle 2 as soon as AF arrives, but definitely feeling much more subdued than I did for round 1. In the meantime we're having daily massages and eating every kind of Chinese food you can imagine!
Any questions? Not this week
Ok GTKY in spoiler as it ended up soooooooo long!
GTKY: Ok so my first kiss was when I was 13. I was crazy about horses. (Don't worry, I'm not going to say it was a horse!) There were not many boys at the stables. One boy who was there had the BEST pony on the whole yard, so was super cool and more than a bit naughty but very talented. Well I swooned over him because together with his fab pony he was really amazing. I managed to convince him to let me ride her a few times, and when he went away to college in the September (he was 17) he left me responsible for her. Which made me swoon over him even more. Well at Xmas our stables had an annual disco, and he said he was coming back in time for it. My mum knew I was crazy about him and took me shopping for a little black dress to wear to the disco - keep in mind I lived in wellies and jodhpurs and big sweaters at the stables - as well as taking me to get my hair done. I felt like Cinderella. And it had the desired effect - we flirted all night, and then when the slow dance came on at the end of the night he asked me to dance, and then in the middle of it kissed me! It was even captured in a series of photos by our photographer and I still have the photos today. We dated very seriously until I was 17, by which time I'd grown up a lot and he hadn't! But he and his family hold a very special place in my heart to this day.
@adirat I'm sending huge hugs from the other side of the world. Cheerleading you through your upcoming FET, but be thankful you can't see me in a cheerleading costume!!!
@purplg8r - exciting that you're getting started and so nice to hear they took the time to explain everything today.
@laurad75 I'm so pleased you got your dates - the countdown is well and truly on!
@margorita30 sorry you got the bad news. But please reach out to the others as suggested as they have so much knowledge on the issues and options- but also experience of how to manage it with their DHs
@businesswife fx everything comes back clear from the polypectomy and for a fab baseline on Saturday!
@pinky917 yay for DH! I thought mine was not interested in all the research and stories but then he let slip that he's also been googling- and has a whole load of favorites in his browser on TTC. However he is also asking everyone with twins if they did IVF lol!
@kristokekerooni we also found some thins we already did, others we did step by step (as there is more chance of keeping things up) and one or two we just made peace with that it wasn't practical for us, and my RE is happy with what we managed. However as I have severe DOR then he also did not want to wait before starting for full effects to take place. Which is kind of ok as in the end there is a lot of waiting around in and between cycles anyhow!
@beachbunnyxo123 good luck for hysteroscopy Friday! And the gum story ugh!!!
@ladymillil I could only influence the shopping as DH is our chef!
@juneroseruby that's so nice you're still BF with your first kiss, kind of like a fairytale, and I'm needing to believe in those a lot more these days
@50wife feeling for you on the number of cycle pain. Sometimes I don't post for a few days in the dailies as I can't bring myself to write it every day
@avrilmai all the love to your DH for his being positive for the both of you
@alohakumu I'll be stalking to see your PGS results!
@shortstack930 keeping busy in TWW is hard but this time I've found it really helps too
@rvamom315 fx this IUI does the trick - but if not another high five for advocating for yourself and getting a new doctor
@kiwi2628 I'm still annoyed at your insurance for making you do more IUI before IVF. Though I would be happy if you proved them right in this one instance ;-)

Okay, I considered making this into its own thread, but thought to run it by ya'll first, to even see if there was any info.
Infertility treatment and FMLA/Short term disability/vacation/unpaid leave What do you all do? What are our legal options? I'm lost here. I have to travel for IVF. Travel as in, 2500 miles round trip (I didn't choose the closest clinic, but if I had, it still would have been a 5 hours trip for me, one way). It's not like I can pop in for ER and FET and only miss a day. I assume since ER isn't very set in stone will 48ish hours before, I will need 4-5 days, to give us wiggle room so we don't have to wait to buy our flights day-of. For FET, I assume I need 3 days off. Pair those with needed to take partial days for monitoring (the monitoring place is same hours as my job, so I have to take some time... and an hour here and there adds up fast!). I really, really, really don't want to use my vacation. We have a crappy vacation policy anyway (I only get 10 days/year), and I will need that time for (FX) if IVF works for pregnancy appointments, etc. Plus, I still want periodic days off (is that too much to ask for?!) Anyway, Is it possible for me to use intermittent FMLA? Or short term disability? What all is normally required of you to take these (notes from docs, etc)?

@KristoKekerooni I haven't used FMLA before, but one of my coworkers had to use it when his wife had surgical complications and when his mother was very ill. I'm looking over the language about using FMLA and it specifically says "poor health" in reference to oneself. Apparently there was a legal case where they ruled you could not use FMLA for IVF. However, I also found several pages where doctors say that they will fill out the paperwork. Legally, your employer cannot ask you what the "illness" is, so if your doctor is willing to do the paperwork, especially since you will be in the category of missing several days, then I'm guessing that FMLA could be used.

@emmasemm - yum!! Where abouts in China are you? I love the food there. I can't even remember what all I ate but every meal was magical. I went on a school field trip years ago and would love to go back.
@KristoKekerooni - It's really hard to say, unfortunately, without knowing what you do for work, how supportive your employer is overall, and what your justification is for using a clinic that is 2500 miles away. It sounds like you'd need to take a significant amount of time off so there's a start (you can't use FMLA for just a day or two, for example). You'd need a note from your doctor, certainly, and you'd need to justify why you're traveling for treatment.
Is there an HR department at your place of work? I would start there to see what is feasible and what they'd need from you. You may be able to do a partial leave of sorts.
Businesses are not required to pay you for the time off you take for FMLA so you'll want to look into that short-term disability option if you have it. My employer doesn't offer short-term disability so when I took my FMLA I had to exhaust my banked PTO (which I managed to reserve 12 weeks worth so I was okay - but still sucks that I had to use what I consider a good part of my job compensation to get paid for what practically every country on the planet covers for its citizens but I digress).
Hopefully other folks will have information for you - there are a lot of variations and combinations one can use to get FMLA so as long as your employer is generally supportive they ought to find a solution that will work for you.
@AlohaKumu & @wishiwaspreggo So, my immediate HR rep is super supportive and awesome.. corporate... I dunno. My justification fro using this clinic is the closest one is already five hours, might as well go for a cheaper clinic if I have to travel already? Maybe if they would cover this under insurance I wouldn't have to go so far. To be honest, While I prefer to be paid for the time off, it's not a hard point for me. I just need the time off, even if I take it unpaid. We have a really great STD program, so I would love love love to use that, but /shrug. I just need to not be fired. I have a brand new boss and I am really nervous to bring this up to him at all.

@AlohaKumu I will be thinking of you and wishing all the luck in December! For us, DH had a surgery when he was two and the details are a bit fuzzy because medical lingo isn't his Mom forte. She said he had one underdeveloped testicle and a healthy one that wasn't attached or something like that. She said he had surgery to attach the healthy one and that his doc said he should be fine. But she also swears he had two testicles and he most certainly does not. My Dr said she hadn't heard of a re-attached testicle and that she thinks maybe he had the scrotum re-attched to better house one testicle so it doesn't get twisted or contorted when they removed the other. I'm sure all that has something to do with this but its definitley a mystery. They would likely be able to extract sperm if that's the case but I'm just not sure were up for IVF
Newbie to this board frequent the TTCA 35 board but thought I’d branch out since we’re going to RE this week!
Diagnosis (If you've been): Haven’t been diagnosed yet, first RE app is this fri
Cycle/CD: 7/ CD 25
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) OPK, Vitamins and supplements
How are things going? Frustrating AF
Any questions? My first appointment with the RE is 10/27 just wondering what to expect?
GTKY: Tell me about your first kiss -
first kiss was in the 5th grade with a neighborhood boy we would go in the closet and just make out till my mom got home. Actually a couple neighborhood boys and g/f would come over( we were all latch key kids) and we’d all take turns making out with the boys. Don’t judge we were 10.
@KristoKekerooni - if you're not worried about pay (and are just concerned about keeping your job) I'd definitely discuss it with your boss and HR. You may be able to work something out where you're just not logging hours for the days you're out (my organization has an "absent without pay" earn code for time sheets - it's used in cases where employees are new and don't have PTO accrued yet or just don't want to use PTO if they're saving it for another purpose) so then you wouldn't have to file FMLA at all. But if you feel like your boss won't take you seriously without medical justification, work with your sympathetic HR rep first and he/she can draft something to present to your boss, be it FMLA or an alternative work plan so you can take care of your IF needs without disrupting your job too much.
And I hear ya on the insurance coverage I'd be on an IVF schedule now if I didn't have to wait 3 months for my health savings account to be replenished. I guess I should be grateful to have a sum of money at all dedicated for IF when others have nothing. Our healthcare system sucks balls overall.
So I talked to HR a little more seriously. I did bring up unpaid absence (no pay, no FMLA, etc), but learned that if I go that route, I lose all benefits, including insurance. Theoretically, we could just use H's insurance, but mine is 1000 times better and his wouldn't cover us out of state, mine does. I want to avoid losing my insurance at all costs.
My local HR said that she is fairly certain we could manipulate this to work, but I might be out longer than I want to be. So I would be out for almost all my monitoring, ER, recovery time, MAYBE? back to work between recovery and FET, but then back out of work from FET to at least Beta, if not longer, given my history or RPL and his desire for me to be at least modified bed rest for a while.
that amounts to several weeks and I am really hesitant to leave work for that long. I am a one-man department, so any time off isn't really a vacation, I like to call it a work-deferral program, because the work just piles up.
Local HR is gonna send out a generic question to HQ HR- "Have you had any employees use FMLA or STD for IVF, and how did that look?" To see if we can sorta get an idea.
Otherwise, I might call in a favor to my boss and see if he can call me out to headquarters for "training" so we can manipulate the system a little that way.
Ugh. What a cluster. Why can't we have a local IVF clinic?

@margorita30 My husband also has azoo but a weird rare form of it called virtual azoo, where he has like 3 sperm in a sample. We tried clomid for a while and it didn't do anything. Because of it being virtual azoo, they said the TESE wouldn't give us better results, so we didn't do it. We tried IVF with ICSI anyways, and it dodn't work. We are now doing IUI with donor sperm. It is a much cheaper option, but obviously it wasn't an easy trip to get to this point. Don't give up. You have options. It's just really raw right now. Process this info first and find out more about your options.
@KristoKekerooni I know that our office can use FMLA for any sort of medical stuff. So there is another girl in my office going through IF Tx as well and she signed up for it.

@margorita30 We never thought in a million years we would be an ivf family, either. (We're Catholic, and the Church is totally opposed to ANY ART, for starters, so we've definitely wrestled with a lot), and yet, here we are. Honestly, once we figured out how to pay for it (I had to all but quit working for our family business and take a corporate job with amazing IF coverage), we were able to move forward one apt at a time, one shot at a time, and it was all really fine, and none of it was that big a deal, really. We never did get a great explanation for his azoo, but we were lucky enough to find sperm in his MESA/TESE retrieval. We then went on to do two ivf cycles for me, and have 7 non pgs-tested embabies now waiting to be transferred. (!!!)
Ultimately, there's no right or wrong way to go about it. I think you just have to put one foot in front of the other and see where your heart and actual medical situation lead you. It's not been easy for any of us, but we are still standing, and some of us are now getting very close indeed to finally getting our BFPs!! Hang in there. (((Hugs))) feel free to PM me, too, if you have any specific questions or anything ;)
@BusinessWife lol that throws me back to a conversation I had in college with my sorority sisters- talking about the future with marriage and houses and kids and jobs etc... and me saying 'I would NEVER do something as drastic as IVF!'

I've seen a lot of talk about increasing protein. (and maybe this should be a different thread) Does any one have suggestions as to how to increase protein without adding more meat? I'm not vegetarian, but I don't like red meat; however, carbs are a staple in my diet. (I also don't drink cows milk, we're an almond "milk" house.)
@BusinessWife glad to see you back! @KristoKekerooni I'm glad the local HR is willing to do some general research for you. I never occurred to me that you wouldn't be able to use FMLA for IVF. @ndz2018 It may be helpful to do a search of the TTGP board. I believe there was a thread started a while back specifically about what to expect for your first RE appointment. As with any doctor I always think it is a great idea to have a list of questions written out either in a notepad or on your phone and it never hurts to take notes. I'm sure the other ladies here have more to add. I know for a lot of ladies the first appointment is more about the doc asking you questions. So maybe be prepared to answer questions about your cycles, labs, etc. (disclaimer, I have not yet be to my first RE appt.) GL to you on Friday!

@avrilmai I’m a long time vegetarian and have lots of tricks to add protein to meals. An easy way is to add seeds to salads and smoothies. Chili made with lots of beans. Tempeh in salads and Asian dishes. Seed based granolas are a good snack. Feel free to PM me about it. I could easily go on and on about all the ways to add veggie protein but don’t want to hijack the thread.
@Avrilmai - good vegetarian sources of protein: beans and legumes (black beans, pinto beans, chickpeas including hummus, lentils), tofu, edamame, nuts, and nut butters. Hard boiled eggs make good protein snacks. If you like fish, canned tuna and precooked cold shrimp are great sources of protein. You can find good recipes that incorporate these things into easy-to-make snacks.

Woohoo!

Nope

@Avrilmai Aww, your H sounds so sweet.

@RVAmom315 After treading your spoiler I agree that it may be a good idea to look into a new RE. During this process it is so important that you are with someone who makes you feel comfortable.
@shortstack930 I understand that back and forth feeling all too well. Keeping my FX for you.
I am so, so sorry @rallykat14. Do not feel bad for feeling bad. You have the right to feel all of the feels. Hugs

How are things going? Apparently after a year and a half DH has finally decided to start reading up on all things TTC, and I think he may have officially become the BSC one. Who would have thought we would reach the day where he is the one frantically googling "3rd IUI success stories".
Any questions?
GTKY Tell me about your first kiss Is it bad that it was so uneventful that I hardly remember it anymore? I know it was during my freshman year of HS with a very short-lived BF. You can tell I was really into it, right??

Thanks for the support friends. I appreciate you.

@madspunk I love it when I have a plan!
@kiwi2628 I'm still annoyed at your insurance for making you do more IUI before IVF. Though I would be happy if you proved them right in this one instance ;-)
Phew, that just took me an hour! DH was like "what the hell are you doing? Is it work." Um no... not work lol

Infertility treatment and FMLA/Short term disability/vacation/unpaid leave
What do you all do?
Plus, I still want periodic days off (is that too much to ask for?!)
Anyway, Is it possible for me to use intermittent FMLA? Or short term disability? What all is normally required of you to take these (notes from docs, etc)?

So, my immediate HR rep is super supportive and awesome.. corporate...
Diagnoses: RPL, Endometriosis, MFI (count, morph, DNI, DNAS, multiple bilateral subclinical varicoceles), low progesterone

ER#2 ~Jan 2019
And I hear ya on the insurance coverage I'd be on an IVF schedule now if I didn't have to wait 3 months for my health savings account to be replenished. I guess I should be grateful to have a sum of money at all dedicated for IF when others have nothing. Our healthcare system sucks balls overall.

@KristoKekerooni I know that our office can use FMLA for any sort of medical stuff. So there is another girl in my office going through IF Tx as well and she signed up for it.

@tamalahoops ok maybe I won't get any!
