Lupron or no Lupron for FET #1?

Hello, Ladies

I need advice from you all today. I had a consult with RE today about our first IVF ending in CP and our plans for a FET. We decided that I will be going into FET pretty soon. However he gave me a choice of having Lupron as part of my protocol to suppress my ovaries or just use estrase and hope that my ovaries are still suppressed enough since our stim cycle in September. I do not know what to decide because I don't want to overwhelm my system with drugs again if I don't have to. But on the other hand I do not want to risk a cancelled cycle ( my RE gave me like 2% chance of that happening, TW** but hey EP is only 1% chance and I had one ***end TW). I just want things to work this time. Also we are 100% OOP so I am curious how much adding Lupron will cost us. And I am struggling to make a decision. Please help! Any success stories with or without Lupron are welcome.

Re: Lupron or no Lupron for FET #1?

  • @DecemberDoll27 sorry to hear about your CP.

What would be the cause of a cancelled cycle? (In the case where you don’t use Lupron?) if you don’t use Lupron does it considered as a non medicated cycle?

i just had my third FET. And so far I’ve only used Lupron. Before my first FET I was given the option of medicated vs non medicated. But if my lining wasn’t good in a non medicated we would have cancelled. So I ended up going for medicated. Which includes BCP, Lupron, estrogen patches and PIO. My first 2 cycles ended with implantation (so I guess success?) ***TW*** first one ended at 6w 1d and second with a CP. Still waiting to find out the results from third. ***end TW***

as for Lupron, I hate it. The needle can never go in easily, it’s causing me a rush, headaches and I’m always super bloated while using it . But it seems like it worked for me (FX it worked this time as well!!)

as for price, if I remember correctly it was around $550 using Freedom.

  • @prudence9-2 Thanks for replying. The cause for a cancelled cycle would be ovulation on my own even with estrase. However my RE thinks that that will likely not happen because I just stimmed last month and my ovaries are suppressed as is right now. I just know me and if there is like 2% risk of something happening it will happen to me. I will still do estrase and PIO so it is still a medicated FET.

  • @DecemberDoll27 it’s a tough call. Other than the money a pain of a cancelled cycle, I’m also over 40. So for me it was no brainer... but 2% is a very low chance.

    My beta is next Monday.

  • I have everything crossed for you! I think so far I am leaning towards lupron, I don't care about the money and extra 2 weeks are not a big deal. I just don't want to do shortcuts. I want this cycle to be perfect. I had 2 losses in the last 6 month so from now it is right the first time approach even with more money, longer time and extra shots. Thanks @prudence9-2

  • @DecemberDoll27 that’s exactly what I feel. Which is why the last 3 FETs I used a lot of meds to make sure the conditions are just about right on transfer date. In the long run, if you end up taking the shortcut and you need to cancel the cycle, you will end up spending more time & money....

  • @DecemberDoll27 I'm not planning my FET until January, but recently discussed calendar and protocol's with my RE nurse. Mine prefer to do the Estrogen only on the first FET and if you ovulate, then Lupron. Lupron only adds about $500, I believe. Good luck with your decision. At my clinic, at least, if a cycle were to be cancelled, I would only be out the meds and however many monitoring appointments I had up to cancellation, and the rest would be applied to the next cycle, so cost isn't as much of a factor. Just time...
