Re: Weekly randoms - 10/23

  • Guyz why has it been sooooo quiet here?! That makes me sad.

How was everyone's weekend? Mine can be summed up as follows: INSOMNIA. It's killing me. I feel like it's way too early for it to be hitting so hard.

  • @ekendall09 jealous! Did you go to the outlets? I love a good outlet trip.
  • Yes! We only have a little over an hour to shop because we were meeting people for lunch but it was enough time to get her wardrobe more winter ready and even grab a couple xmas things for my nieces.  We love the hanna outlet there!

  • I'm such a rain cloud. Our weekend was OK, generally speaking. Yesterday was one of those perfect Autumnal days.

However, I'm sick. DH is traveling so I had to single parent all weekend. Sooo.... I'm tired. And I can't breathe. BLERGH.

  • Oof, @BarefootContessa I feel for ya. Solo parenting is hard enough when you're healthy, never mind when you're sick. I'm glad you made it through the weekend, though, and I hope things get better from here!
  • @ekendall09 WHAT there's a Hanna outlet there? I feel like that's dangerous information for me to have...
  • @ekendall09 shopping sounds so fun! What a great day for you guys!

  • It has been very quiet on these boards! I check every day and little to no activity!

We had a fun weekend, went to my niece's rainbow birthday party on sat and stayed home to organize th house for winter on Sunday! Sharing a room with DD and soon this baby for the winter! Cuts down on our heating bill! This house is sooooo tiny!
  • I know it is so dead here.

We had family visiting last week. We are all more relaxed now that they are gone. We walked around old town a bit on Saturday. My 1 year old love watching the planes and boats go by. Ah just the simple things. Yesterday, I did nothing. Watched Netflix, played with the kids and ordered take out.

  • I find Hanna outlet to be disappointing. Yes it's cheaper but it's really not crazy outlet prices which sucks :(  a pair of pjs for 25$ is still pretty expensive. That being said, I love the quality of their clothes and got gender neutral so baby2 will get to wear his brother's

i celebrated second trimester by having my worst nausea day and vomiting my dinner. I'm seriously ready for the non sense to stop!!
  • Yes this bored is really SLOW.  Since my bump app doesn't work all that well I barely checked it over the weekend.  Kind of down when I got to work and looked on the computer to see I really didn't miss much.

Didn't do too much this weekend.  Went shopping for the rest of DD's birthday presents.  She is going to be 3 on Saturday! Seems crazy to think it has already been 3 years.  Also saw the first show of the Broadway Across America in Indianapolis yesterday I love that me and mom got season tickets.  It's great seeing all these shows. Although I'm going to have to get some maternity black dress pants for the remaining shows because while my normal ones fit the buttons were a little snug so I just left them unbutton for comfort reasons. Might stop and do some shopping after work cause I might also get some new maternity jeans too.

  • OK I have two separate gripes.

1.) My daycare has an annual materials fee. I'm fine with covering it. I am not a huge fan of the current office manager because I think she does a horrible job. She sells Lularoe out of the business, etc. She and the owner swear there are no customers during open hours, but she's definitely peddling materials on the facebook page during working hours. Anyhow- the annual materials fee is always due in September. Well, September came and went with no word from her. She just sent out an e mail saying that the fee was due by next Friday, and that it covers "everything" that helps our kids learn, including the facility "face lift". I have an issue with my money that is supposed to go towards supplies to help my child learn and grow going to paying contractors so you can attract more customers. They've done nothing internally, they've put new siding on the building and are painting. WWA18D? Do you think I'm over reacting? *Sidenote* I put my daughter in her brand new gap jacket two weeks ago. Being a veteran mom I should have known to put her initials in it but we were in a hurry and I literally ripped the tags off and threw it on her. The jacket never came home and they swear they don't have it. Is it rude that I comment on the facebook page about her lost jacket?

2.) OB just called with what I expected to be my harmony results. Dr. let me take the test at 12 weeks last week because I was just shy of the "fatness" that makes you wait until 13 weeks. I was scared when it was the doctor calling with the results instead of the nurse, but she called to tell me they didn't get enough DNA and I need to wait until 15 weeks before I can do another blood draw. What the holy hell?! Has anyone else experienced this? I just want to know that baby is fine, screw finding out the gender at this point.

  • @kmalls I don't have a boy so I don't know how their clothes are but I think their dresses are better priced and they do run deals so I watch for emails about when there are additional percentages off etc. It was only an extra 20% off this weekend but better than the usual full price!

  • @BarefootContessa - yeah, I'd have an issue with my annual materials fee going towards maintenance as well. If the place needs a "face lift" that money needs to come from their own maintenance fund -- parents should not be expected to cover that, ESPECIALLY when your extra fees are earmarked for student materials. Personally I would ask for a breakdown of where your materials fee is going: as in, how much is going to materials for the kids and how much is going to maintenance. If they're already planning to do a face lift, they should be able to provide all parents with a written quote from the contractor. If they can't produce that, I'd be very hesitant to pay any fee at all.

As for your NIPT results, ugh, unfortunately I think not getting enough of a DNA sample is frustratingly common. I'm surprised it happened at 12 weeks, but yeah, it definitely happens.

I agree with everything @kmalls just said. Is the fee going up this year for the "face lift"? If not, I would seriously wonder how much of the money you pay has been going towards materials in the first place. I also find it weird they would charge an additional fee for materials vs just including it in the normal tuition. I know some of the daycares I have been looking into have a annual "registration" fee but I haven't heard of a material fee yet. Also- only giving you until next Friday to pay a fee like this seems unreasonable imo.

I don't think there is anything wrong with putting a comment on the FB page about the jacket if it's more of a "Has anyone seen this jacket" type of post. I would think that if a kid randomly came home with a jacket that wasn't theirs the parents would have it returned to the school already but it doesn't hurt?
  • @BarefootContessa that seems a little sketchy about the fee... it would definitely give me pause.

And thats stinks about the results and having to wait!

@kmalls I totally envy you. It’s the little things that make me feel productive! I found a yummy chicken lettuce wrap recipe I want to try but I don’t have the energy to actually TRY and do it lol

  • @frenchiekinplusone thank you!! The wedding is in September of next year, so I needed something that was “forgiving” and that could contain the “ladies” if I am able to breastfeed again!
  • @BarefootContessa That's a little crazy, I mean you're probably already paying an arm and a leg for tuition for daycare, why isn't it just counted in?

    @mikkimikey that's such a cute dress!!!

This weekend we went to the corn maze and the other activities were fun, but I always forget that corn mazes aren't really fun

This weekend was low key for us which was nice. Our best friends are staying with us from CA with their 3mo who is the best. So while our house has been taken over for the past week it's been so nice spending time with them.

We did our first daycare tour end of last week. The place seems great and I liked the director and the one infant room teacher we met, and I think we would definitely feel comfortable sending baby there. BUT HOLY FUCKING SHIT, the price. Like, we live next to Boston and I'm under no disillusions about how expensive daycare is around here, but actually seeing the price on paper was way too real. And here DH and I thought we were being awesome because he's able to get a day off every week and then work a few Saturday hours instead, so we'd only have to pay for 4 days instead of 5. NOPE, 4 days is the same price as full time. **cries**

We are seeing a couple more this week and wracking our brains to figure out a solution to get down to only needing 3 days a week, but omfg. How do regular people afford this? DH and I make about the same amount of money as each other so one of us being SAH would be impossible (and doesn't make sense financially vs yearly cost of daycare), and all of our parents still work full time. I was going to see if I could get a work from home day or 2 a week which I don't think would be a huge issue, but am I fooling myself that I'm going to get any work done with an infant?  HALP

  • This weekend was the first in awhile with zero obligations. Saturday we had the laziest day ever. DS was going a little bonkers by the end of the day, but DH and I seriously needed it. Sunday we were outside all day doing yard work, playing, cooking out. It was so beautiful and most likely was the last nice day of the year. I told DS to look at the pretty blue sky and say goodbye for about 7 months  :(

All this day care talk makes me freak out. I'm not working at the moment, but I probably will have to at some point and I can't rely on my mom anymore once we have a 2nd kid.
I'm also thinking of going back to school for a certificate for medical billing. That also makes me freak out and I have a feeling DH may not love the idea.
Ugh wtf, TB! I can't tag. Well... @frenchiekinplusone I hear you on day care costs. It makes me sick. I have no idea what we are going to do either. I wish someone just magically had the perfect solution for us.

  • @frenchiekinplusone I am right there with you! We live in a major city and are also dealing with sticker shock. I would only need daycare from like 8:30-3:30 which would think would cost less than the people who need it from 7-6:00 pm but nooooo same amount of money!
  • @frenchiekinplusone I think working with an infant is doable in a baby carrier but with a more awake baby like starting at 3-4 months it's gonna be really hard unless you can work at night to make up for lost time. Would à at home daycare be more affordable?

On the quiet board note:  I think most people use mobile, and it hasn't been working for over a week.  The only place I can get on here and post is at home, and I don't get home 'til around 5, then usually have stuff to do before I can sit and open the computer.  Normally at work I can use my phone when it's slow and get on and check stuff.  (It's been making for slower days)!

We got back from GA Wednesday (I had a headache and threw up), and went to work the next 2 days, got a headache both days and my bp went up pretty high.  Thursday I went to the OB and he had me start taking my bp med twice a day.  Friday it went up higher and they couldn't get me in but said I had to be seen, so they sent me to the ER.  That was a waste.  The ER dr. was more about my headache than anything else.  Which yeah, I probably do need to see a neurologist, but he was saying that on top of my normally high bp, the headaches were making it go up more (which to me, a headache wouldn't make it that high) and basically separating the 2 issues of bp and headache.  Who knows - I have an OB appt Friday so I'll just talk to them bc it felt like a waste.

So, a mama kitty had some kittens in front of our house (it's like behind bushes down in front of the "window well" of the basement window.  I could hear their sweet, tiny meows.  I couldn't see them bc of the cover, but awwww babies!  I'm going to contact a lady who fosters for an organization we got one of our kitties from to see if she knows how to help.

  • @frenchiekinplusone I live in the DC suburbs so I feel you on the outrageous cost. We saved a lot of money by doing an in home daycare. We chose one the was overseen by a program which gave us somebody peace of mind. We saved more than $400/month. We finally moved him to a center at 20 months so he could get more educational care, but I wouldn't do it any other way for an infant. He basically got one on one care (2 women to 3 kids).
  • @psuxray07 I second the quietness due to login issues! I've gone radio silent for a while because every time I logged in, it made me a new default username instead of this one! So maybe they're all lurking and waiting to be able to post like I was ;) Also, I hope you get some clarity Friday! That sounds incredibly frustrating.

Saturday my completely healthy, never had an issue before, Boston terrier had a mild seizure. I took him to the emergency vet and basically, they have no clue why it happened. They did blood work and everything came back normal. I am waiting to hear back from my regular vet of what to do. It was so scary! I couldn't sleep that night checking him to make sure it didn't happen again. I spent all day worrying about him at work and he was fine when I got home. Anybody dealt with this before?

  • I can post again via my phone!!!!! I feel like I can finally reach an itch that has been killing me for days now.

Weekend was good! I think we are going public this weekend, which I'm excited about. I've seen alot of announcements and feel so left out. But super happy I can contribute again!
  • @lemr13 oh no! We have two Boston terriers and I belong to like a million BT rescue groups, and it seems like random seizures are more common than you'd think. Normal blood work is good, and hopefully your vet will be able to provide some kind of assurance that he's otherwise healthy. I'm so sorry that happened!
  • @lemr13 your poor pup! I hope it was just random and he's okay. I have a BT mix so the breed holds a place in my heart!
  • @danjoly @lindsye   @Puddlewonderful  thank you! We are def going to look into that. We don't have any friends or family with young kids in our town or within a daycare-reasonable distance so no real word of mouth suggestions for in-home daycares or options to nanny share.... not sure where to start looking for in-home. Is care.com legit?

@lemr13 poor pup!! I have such a soft spot for Bostons. Hope he's ok!!

@frenchiekinplusone - we used a home daycare for DS for 1.5 years and it was actually really easy to find! We just Googled "[our town] + home daycare" and a bunch of options came up. I think we visited three before finding the perfect fit. I do agree with @Puddlewonderful's sentiment that eventually moving to a daycare center (or for us, an early preschool program) is a good idea for more structure/educational purposes.

Another helpful resource has been our town's parenting Facebook page. I found it just by doing a FB search and it looks like every town around us has one as well. Tons of tips about local daycare options are always being shared, and it's a great group to lurk!
  • @kmalls thank you!!! That is super helpful. New project for this week  :D

  • Sorry to ghost everyone yesterday!

@mikkimikey You look adorable in that dress. and I'm not far from Indy!
@lindsye I think I need your daughters problem! It sounds like my 5 yo son; if he is awake he is moving/talking!
@frenchiekinplusone yes, daycare sticker shock is very very real. In most cases, the cost of daycare is more expensive than college tuition. I live in the Midwest, so I could never imagine what it would cost in Boston! YIKES. Either way- there is a reason we planned our kids 3 years apart. It's because I can't afford three in daycare.
