8 week Check-In 10/16

Ok, so I guess I'll bite the bullet and get these started.  I'm not motivated enough to figure out if the week numbers are correct, so someone tell me if I'm on the wrong ones.  Also, I'm totally just flying by the seat of my pants on questions, so tell me if you like them/don't like them, want different ones, etc.

This is a weekly check in for people who are 8 weeks along this week.
The bump says baby is the size of a raspberry!  Do you have other "sizes" for baby other than the bump fruits?  Share here.

What symptoms are you having?

Rants/Raves:

Any questions this week?

GTKY:  If your TV would only play TV shows, movies, etc. associated with one actor/producer/director/etc. 24/7 for the rest of forever, who would you pick?

  • Loading the player...
  • ETA above: my TV almost already does play exclusively DW 24/7  :p
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • Size: raspberry! (My DS was really excited for a berry!!)

Symptoms: still a lot of nausea, but it's easing up a little. I actually felt like eating yesterday so that's a plus! And exhausted...

Rants/raves: So my MIL told me a lot of times when DS was little (not that he's old at 2...) that she would never love another baby we have as much as she loves Gideon (DS.) I know what she probably meant was "I love him a lot" but it was still hurtful to hear especially multiple times. But she has literally not talked to me in weeks or asked how pregnancy is going since we told her a month ago. With DS she would ask all the time how things are going. It's already making me feel sad that this baby is coming in second place to her. (Sorry it was long) Raves: DH is more than excited and in love with babe already. He is so anxious for the next 32 weeks to be done so he can hold this little one!

    Questions: I'm good for now!

GTKY: So tough, but maybe Jennifer Anniston? I like most of her movies plus you get some variety in genre... and of course Friends!
  • +1 for the constipation (not sure how I forgot that little treat)... and needing to eat every 2 hours to keep the nausea tolerable. It's getting... interesting.

  • @theletlers, I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL.  What a terrible thing to say... even if it was just your DS at the time.  Hopefully she is just really busy and will come around.  I'm with you on feeling like a second child would be "second" in a grandparent's eyes.  :(

@babydreams88 I wrote on another thread that I won't be able to do all 5, because there's no way I could come up with 5 GTKYs every week!! I'd say just treat them like every other thread and start it if you're the first to notice it hasn't been started yet.   :)

  • @JNCPro3130 I know my husband is getting annoyed how how messy I'm leaving the house too.  He said something about it once and I broke down crying so I don't think he'll ever mention it again lol

@hotmessmamax3 due date buddies!  Unless mine changes after my first US.  I'm sticking it out in the May bmb because June looks like too much drama for me.

@MLD912 omg I've been more ragey than I've ever been in my life lately!  I'm normally so patient and calm and it takes a lot to get a rise out of me.  These days if the littlest thing goes wrong, I just wanna scream and destroy everything in my way lol I'm glad it's not just me

@theletlers was your son the first grandkid for your MIL?  That was the case for my Step MIL last time and she texted me every day.  I haven't heard anything from her this time.  But I'm willing to bet that these grandmas will totally fall in love again once #2 comes.

@babydreams88 try the Ovia app!  You can choose your weekly update to be a fruit/veggie, parisian bakery, fun & games, and weird-but-cute animals.  Its a great app overall too.

@mmb4532 I don't know how you do it as a teacher!  Between the nausea and the frequent peeing, I would be in the bathroom all the time.
  • @lokibear89 I didn't start to really get sick until 8 weeks last time.  But some women never do at all so you may be a lucky one!
  • @fraufarbissina haha "I just wanna scream and destroy everything in my way" - exactly! I don't know if I'm pregnant or becoming the hulk....
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @lokibear89 with my first I didn’t even realize I was pregnant until almost 10 weeks because I had no noticeable symptoms. I just thought my implantation was a really light period so I didn’t even notice a missed period.
  • Thanks @hotmessmamax3 @fraufarbissina

Need to stop googling and stressing myself out! I definitely getting the peeing and the tired at any rate.

    @lokibear89

I was stressing myself out about it too! We are the very end of the month and I'll be 8 weeks tomorrow and sickness just started about a week ago for me. Up until then, I was convinced I wasn't pregnant and I'm still not so sure, but I have a US this Thursday, so hopefully everything is ok!

    @fraufarbissina

Today was the worst at school that I've felt. I'm going to have to tell my students soon, they are older and I'm getting side eyes from all the crackers I've been eating lately! I'm thinking I'll  probably tell them around Thanksgiving, after my first tri is done.
  • What symptoms are you having?
I’ve been nauseous pretty much 24/7. Having food in my stomach usually helps but when nothing sounds good and I eat something just to eat...that doesn’t help

    Rants/Raves:
We just got to the beach for our first family of 3 vacation and will be here for a week, so no rants from me! Raves: Papa John’s Pizza is just so damn good

    Any questions this week?
    nope

GTKY:  If your TV would only play TV shows, movies, etc. associated with one actor/producer/director/etc. 24/7 for the rest of forever, who would you pick?
Ever since DH and I saw the movie Dunkirk and I discovered Jack Lowden I’ve developed the biggest celeb crush on him. Hot damn he is a hot Scot
;)  But I would probably pick Tom Hanks because I just love him. Or Colin Firth.
  • @JNCPro3130 My husband is super messy too but that’s because he doesn’t mind messes. I’m not the tidiest person but he drives me up a wall. Like leaving an empty wrapper on the counter right next to the trash can. Oh my blood boils sometimes.

@babydreams88 No heartburn for me but the other two! Ugh.
  • @fraufarbissina, I think I freak out my DH last night.  I spent Sunday cleaning and then last night I went into the kitchen and he had made one of his protein powder drinks.  He had spilled the powder on the counter and didn't clean it up. I said, "If you want the house to be clean, you have to help!  You left powder all over the counter!"  I didn't mean to yell at him, but good grief!  Don't whine at me that the house is a mess and then make mess without cleaning it up.  Then this morning there was coffee on the counter again.  I love the man dearly, but the pregnancy hormones are killing me right now and I can't do it all!!

    .....end rant.... again.... sigh

@MrT723, We are definitely not a crazy, spotless kind of household.  It doesn't bother me if things aren't perfectly in place.  My only current issue is the little stuff (like if you spill something... clean it up so I don't have to clean up after you).  Honestly, I'm not usually so irritated by these things.  I think I'm turning into a crazy person!

@mmb4532, I had the picture perfect pregnancy with DS.  I was really tired, but other than that, I felt amazing!  I remember feeling the same as you and thinking something MUST be wrong because I didn't have any symptoms.  I was just super lucky!  This time around, I am amazingly tired and nauseous/throw up if I haven't eaten.  I still count myself lucky because a lot of people are on meds for their sickness.  It can be worse.

  • I am 8 weeks 3 days with an estimated due date of May 26. My first appointment is this Thursday and I can not wait! Right now the Ovia app says the baby is about the size of a wild strawberry.

So much nausea and dry heaving and gagging....changing my 1 year olds stinky diapers have really started to be a struggle!
Finding something to eat has been a challenge as well. No bing sounds good or tastes good. I haven’t had any real consistent cravings yet. What sounds good one time is nauseating the next.

  • What symptoms are you having? Food aversions. Food grossed me out. When I try to eat a normal amount, I get nauseated. I am tired often, and my poor boobs hurt so bad!

Rants/Raves: raves- yay I’m not very sick feeling! Rant-I have a lot of work today but I just want to take a nap.

Any questions this week? I don’t think so!

GTKY:  If your TV would only play TV shows, movies, etc. associated with one actor/producer/director/etc. 24/7 for the rest of forever, who would you pick?
hmm... I just watched both Guardians of the Galaxy, and loved them! So maybe Chris Pratt? Also loved his “What’s my Snack?” Vids on Instagram. I love the Marvel series on Netflix, so whoever does them. I like action/adventure. That’s all I can think of for now.
  • Update on size of baby, ovia app now tells me 8 weeks is the size of a pygmy seahorse
  • @clee5711 I'm struggling with diaper changes now too!  I feel like the smell is just stuck in my nose all day.

@codik86 I had such a busy day at work today too.  I can't wait until people know I'm pregnant so they stop asking me to do things lol

    @lokibear89 that's cute!  Love Ovia
  • Update on size of baby, ovia app now tells me 8 weeks is the size of a pygmy seahorse
    How strange! Mine says strawberry!
  • @codik86 on ovia  you can pick a theme, so instead of fruits you can have wierd animals or French bakery items.

  • The bump says baby is the size of a raspberry!  Do you have other "sizes" for baby other than the bump fruits?
No, I kinda like the fruit!

    What symptoms are you having?
Honestly, I haven't had too many symptoms which really worried me at first. I had my first ultrasound last week and that helped ease my worries a little. I've had some crazy bloating, some food cravings, and I am so tired!

    Rants/Raves:
I am really excited to tell people but would like to wait until my first trimester is over-which has been the hardest part for me. We told close family like parents, but we're waiting to tell everyone else next month after my 12 week checkup.

I've had no ambition to do ANYTHING at home and at work..that's been terrible as well.

    Any questions this week?
My biggest question to all you ladies is about the genetic testing they talk about at the 12 week appointment. Should I be getting the testing to see about any special needs? Thoughts??

Also, should I be looking into daycare already? I live in a very small town, so I'm not sure of where I will be having my child go or anything..when should I start planning that out?!

GTKY:  If your TV would only play TV shows, movies, etc. associated with one actor/producer/director/etc. 24/7 for the rest of forever, who would you pick?
I'm pretty picky with TV, but can't choose one certain person right now..
  • @cpultz2014 Congratulations and welcome!  To answer your question regarding the genetic testing, it's usually covered by insurance for women who are 35 or older (advanced maternal age), or who have high risk pregnancies because of underlying illness or history of genetic diseases in their family.  You can ask your doctor about it at your next visit, you can sometimes have it done optionally if you don't meet any of those criteria, but it more than likely won't be covered by insurance.
I can't really help with daycare questions, sorry.
If you plan to stick around here and participate, would you mind reading the "stickied" posts at the top of the list, especially the one that says *Read this first*, and introduce yourself in the Introductions thread?  It's a lot easier to discuss stuff with people whose story we know and are familiar with.  Thanks and welcome again!

  • What symptoms are you having?

We were traveling this week and luckily the nausea let up! But still super tired and sensitive to smells.

    Rants/Raves:

im not someone who loves pregnancy, and it just seems soooo far from the end goal, so every time a get an update I'm like, damn. Only 8 weeks?!? Ahhh.

    Any questions this week?

    nope

GTKY:  If your TV would only play TV shows, movies, etc. associated with one actor/producer/director/etc. 24/7 for the rest of forever, who would you pick?

hmmm... I'm not sure. DH and I watch a lot of comedies together... maybe Kristin Wig. She's in a lot of funny movies! And I could rewatch SNL episodes forever.
  • @hollieileen I feel like time has seriously slowed down since being pregnant.  I've only known for 4 weeks and it feels like ages.  I made the mistake of skimming through weeks 9 - 40 pregnancy updates on the Ovia app and felt soo overwhelmed with how much I have to go.  Gotta take it one day at a time, though.
  • @hollieileen @fraufarbissina I told my husband if you ever feel like time is going too fast, feel nauseous all day every day and it will start to crawl

also @hollieileen we are on vacation this week and I’ve been feeling better too. Praying it’s a coincidence and I’ll still be feeling better when we get home!
  • @hollieileen @fraufarbissina I also feel like time is crawling bd there's so much time to go... ahhhhh :(

I know some of you had scans this week, any updates?

    Hows everyone's weekends been?

I had an ultrasound Thursday! Baby is healthy and well behaved according to the ultrasound tech...heartbeat 171! Just sad I won't see this little one again until 16 weeks, but I have my first OBGYN appointment in 2 weeks and I'll hear the heartbeat again then!
    Wonderful news congrats!!! :)

  • @mmb4532 Aw that’s so exciting!

I had an appt with an OB a few weeks ago for progesterone therapy because the midwives I see don’t prescribe it. We had an ultrasound then and saw a HB but it was only around 100. The dr said that was a normal rate because it was so early on but I’m still anxious for my first appt with my midwives on Thursday to hear the HB and make sure it’s faster now!

So glad the Dr helped you with progesterone! I'm also having my next appointment on Thursday and I'm anxious too. Hope our appointments go well ❤️

  • Thanks ladies! Certainly didn't feel real until we heard that heartbeat! Good luck to all of you who have appointments soon!
  • @mmb4532, hearing the heartbeat made me feel so much better! I still worry but that doesn't go away... even after they're born! ;)

I have an appointment next Friday (Nov 2nd). It's to talk about mine and my husband's medical history and what genetic testing we'll do.
