Knoephla - Its a dumpling that is either eaten with kraut and sausage or in a potato and cream based soup. I don't eat kraut, but knoephla soup is my favorite. I've also been told that caramel rolls are a regional thing, but I refuse to believe that.

R/R: Rave: My mom is in town this weekend and has offered to babysit so me and MH can have date night! Hopefully tomorrow night.

GTKY: Do you have any unique foods and/or traditions where you grew up (or where you live now)? I grew up on a farm where we raised our own meat so we ate/tried almost all the edible parts of the animal to be less wasteful. Cow tongue may be the worst smelling food ever while cooking (and is also ridiculously tough - we made it once for us and then every time after it got cooked for the dogs). My least favourite though was my parents trying to pass off cow heart as an acceptable family dinner item.

R/R: It’s 9 AM and I have only gotten out of bed briefly to feed the cat...who is now curled up next to me sleeping, so I definitely can’t get up for a while yet lest I disturb him. I usually willingly get up at 6, but every so often it’s nice to be super lazy!

CS/Q: Nope!

GTKY: DH and I tried really hard to think of an answer for this question, but nothing really unique came to mind. We do have a local orchard that makes really good apple cider donuts, and we have a big sweet corn festival every year. That might be the best I can do!

R/R: cramps are the worst they’ve ever been this morning. I took the dog for a walk then did 20 minutes on the treadmill to see if that helped. They were gone during but they are back with a vengeance now. It’s also raining here so I’m thinking reading on the couch it is.

GTKY: I cannot think of anything specific from the region where I grew up, but I live in Texas now, so breakfast tacos are pretty popular.

@blackhottamales So sorry you're dealing with awful cramps today! Reading on the couch sounds like a perfect way to spend the day. Do you have a heating pad? That always helps my cramps.

@dukestar5 Yum, sounds like you've been eating really well lately! MH went to grad school in Texas and makes some killer breakfast tacos. You're making me crave them now!

R/R: Rainy day here too! Not surprising, considering three of us are in the same region.

MH just made me breakfast, and then we're going to the gym. The plan is to get some exercising out of the way and then go to a coffee shop and grade all day. We went to a movie last night at a nearby discount theater, and it was fun to get out, but the movie (atomic blonde) was pretty meh.

CS/Q: Ok, so yesterday was definitely O day (proper temp spike today), but I'm hanging out here until I get crosshairs. Chart in spoiler.

Hmmm... maybe some unique specialty food items. Not stuff eaten regularly, but more of festival food. How about deep fried artichoke hearts or garlic ice cream? Where I live now there's the juicy lucy (a burger stuffed with cheese) and tater tot hotdish (I presume it involves tater tots, but I really have no idea what it is).

Sorry for picking a hard question today!

@elolin I'm just glad it's rain and not snow!! We recently bought 1/3 of a cow, but only the "normal" parts. I don't think I would be brave enough to try tongue or heart...

@Augusta108 Enjoy sleeping in! My dogs (and DH) had me up early-ish this morning.

@blackhottamales Sorry about the bad cramps! Hopefully relaxing today will help!

@dukestar5 I love making homemade pizza! Do you make the crust too? I usually cheat and just buy one to save time.

@darkstar42 Yeaterday was O for me too (or what I'm going with based on limited tracking) but I wasn't ready to move to TWW. Tator tot hotdish is good! I make it like shepherds pie but with tator tots instead of mashed potatoes on top.

R/R: Went to visit the in-laws at their new house, it`s really nice with waterfront and 3 garage areas.
They won`t move until spring next year so H`s aunt will check on it over the winter but if H`s dad gets to stressed with work he said he might move sooner.

CS/Q:nope

GTKY: Do you have any unique foods and/or traditions where you grew up (or where you live now)? My Dad was a Trapper/Hunter so I`ve had alot of gamey food, I`ve tried beaver I`m not sure if I could compare it to any other meat I`ve had. It was ok but I would probably never eat it again.

@blackhottamales There's a reason you don't hear of heart for dinner...its gross! Lol! And good for you for trying to exercise out your cramps...I resort to the fetal position and turn into a big baby!

@dukestar5 Yes - currently in the suburbs of Vancouver, grew up in the Southern Interior of British Columbia in a small town. - I loved growing up on a farm! My parents still have a little hobby farm so I'm thankful my kids get a taste of farm life when we visit. What are you making as a main for the cookout? My go-to sides are usually something I can make ahead. My current favourite is a beet/goat cheese/kale/quinoa salad with balsamic vinegar, and my easiest crowd favourite is a greek tortellini salad - cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, olive, feta and then a pack of tortellini mixed with like a half a bottle of sundries tomato and oregano dressing.

@darkstar42 No - lol! I never could develop a taste for any of the inner pieces of the animal. The one meat though that is delicious that most people cringe over (but I didn't realize was weird to eat since I grew up on it) is rabbit. Also - I feel like garlic ice cream is offensive to ice cream everywhere!

@MrsMiller8588 We always split a full cow now with my brother and parents - and none of us take the inner pieces anymore. My parents finally gave up and realized they were all gross! I love buying my meat that way though - so much better than store meat! And yes to the no snow - I'm not ready!

@Stargazer1lily My dad hunted as well so I've had some very gamey meats. Definitely agree on the beaver front - not the greatest meat. I also wouldn't ever do bear again.

@dukestar5, I love blueberry pancakes! The play was pretty good, if a bit long at 3 hours. The first act was almost two hours by itself! The audience was definitely getting restless by intermission time.

@darkstar42, sounds like you’re going to have a productive Saturday! I can’t decide whether garlic ice cream sounds good or horrible.

@stargazer1lily, a waterfront house sounds really nice! My uncle is a big hunter but we don’t live close enough for me to have gotten to try much of what he shoots. Beaver sounds like it would be interesting to try once, though!

@blackhottamales I usually don't get bad cramps but I did this round and a nice hot pack did wonders for me!

@dukestar5 I'm a sucker for a good cheese dip so that's always my go to.. a real easy one is spreading 16oz cream cheese, layer hormel chili no beans, then 4 cups cheddar cheese on top - 350 for 25 minutes and it is delicious!

R/R: **TW children- my DS has had pink eye and a sinus infection so I haven't been able to bump much-needed end TW** but I feel like I'm getting to know my body better which is neat.

WAYDTGKU: Getting into the FW so HIO, plus all the usual suspects.

R/R: I managed to not drink at Oktoberfest today! Wasn’t as big as we thought and it was disgustingly hot out so nobody felt like drinking. It was nice meeting up with our friends. *TW (children): They have a son who is close in age to DS and they got to play together which was really adorable. They’re attached at the hip when they’re together. *End TW I got some new books from B&N last night that I’m excited to sit down and read tonight.

CS/Q: Does FF give you a FW of three or four days before O day? I could’ve sworn mine was four, but when I looked at it this morning there were only three days before O in green.

GTKY: Do you have any unique foods and/or traditions where you grew up (or where you live now)? I think scrapple is kind of unique to this area. I think it tastes disgusting though! And everyone knows Philly is famous for their cheesesteaks!

@dukestar5 Your weekend of food sounds delicious! I live to eat (and cook!) My favorite go-to picnic sides are bacon potato salad with a mustard-y dressing, three bean salad, and a caprese orzo salad with fresh basil and olives.

@darkstar42 Garlic ice cream??? Is it sweet at all? And do you smell it for days like when you eat garlic in any other form?

@Stargazer1lily Do your in-laws live close by? Is their new house a place where you will get to hang out often?

WAYDTGKU: PNV, checking CM. Other than that, not too much.

R/R: Raves--it was the most gorgeous weather today. Unseasonably warm for October, got my house cleaned, parents came by with my 92-year old grandmother to see our new house, had a nice visit. Went for a run/walk, got some new library books and now I'm chilling with some TV and a pumpkin beer. Rants--can't think of any today!

CS/Q: My CM has been weird this week, some EWCM and some not, but it's starting to dry up today. We've been HIO all week to be sure but I'm thinking tomorrow I'll move over to TWW.

GTKY: Do you have any unique foods and/or traditions where you grew up (or where you live now)? I grew up on the New England shore so fish and chips and chowder are my faves!
