Spectra 2 Question

Hi ladies.  I haven’t posted much at all (actually I just started lurking a few weeks ago). This is my 2nd and I kinda didn’t realize how much I missed the community experience until recently. So, my apologies for being some rando that’s now posting in the group.

I am super lucky to have my pick of several great pumps including the Spectra 2 and Medela PIS.  I had the PISA with DS1, and I love how many stores stock Medela supplies.  I forgot pump parts a lot when I went back to work.  I heard such great things about the spectra, but it seems a lot more confusing to use and I’m concerned that finding parts I forgot will be a huge challenge and stressor.  I was an under supplier with DS1 otherwise I would be completely happy with the Medela.  I’ve heard that the Spectra is so customizable that it gets more milk than other pumps.

Does anyone have experience with the Spectra?  If so, have you struggled with forgotten parts?

Re: Spectra 2 Question

  • From what I see in my Spectra 2 box there aren't that many parts and there are tips on the internet about using the spectra with other pumps parts but more bottles. The Spectra 2 saves your settings so that it's a problem, it looks super easy to use and the rechargeable battery is a huge bonus.

  • @MaximumEffort thank you for sharing!   I don’t know why I’m putting so much focus on a breast pump.

  • I had the spectra 2 with my first and I liked it a lot. Its actually pretty easy to use and clean but I also had a low supply so I'm unsure if it could get more milk vs a different pump. The downside to it was replacement parts we're impossible to find in a store and had to be ordered online from a supplier. I could find them online ok, but it's definitely not as easy as just running to babies r us for new parts. Luckily there isn't tons of pieces to the pump but try to not lose them if you can. I would get the spectra again though!
  • Thank you @AndieTessie. I appreciate you sharing your experience with me.  I was so forgetful with my first and expect to be even more forgetful with this one, so maybe I’ll stick to a new PISA that I know I’ll be able to get parts for easily.

  • Good to know about the parts.  After hearing that, I called my insurance company on a whim.  While ordering the replacement parts through an in-network distributor may be more of a pain, my insurance will fully cover the replacement parts by doing so.  The little bit of extra hustle might be worth it if I can maximize my insurance coverage and minimize my out-of-pocket costs.
  • Oh, follow-up question, for anyone using the Spectra 2 - do you travel a lot for work? I do not travel with great frequency, but the travel is all out-of-state when I need to head to hearings or court sessions.  How did the Spectra2 hold up with the travel?
