Re: FTM Check In - 10/10

  • 1) How far along are you? 36+2 weeks

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Had my 36 week appointment yesterday.  I wanted to be sure what direction the baby was facing, so they brought out the bedside ultrasound machine (normally they do not do ultrasounds other than 10w, 20w, and 41w).  Baby is head WAY down in my pelvis, but facing sideways.  Explains why I have basically felt all the movement exclusively on one side.  Had the GBS swab.  Talked to my midwife about contraception options post-baby, as although we hope for another kid we plan to wait a few years.  I emphasized that after learning more of the side-effects of medical intervention during labor, I am dead set on a fully natural birth.  One of the most common side effects my birth class covered was that all the medical interventions tend to cause a drop in blood pressure of the mother.  My blood pressure so far has been on the low end of normal, and the last 2 medical procedures I underwent that involved anesthesia resulted in an extreme drop in blood pressure for me.  I don't want to deal with that again.

    3) Cravings/symptoms? Plenty of low pelvic pressure these days.  I tried to turn over to my other side during the night this past weekend, and twice ended up with serious RLP.  That hurts! But my left shoulder is really starting to bug me from sleeping almost exclusively on my left side.  Still dealing with the salty/sour/spicy/tart flavor preferences, although little bowls of ice cream and chocolate are now also making regular appearances.  This kid LOVES all things apple, and I love feeling him/her move, so apples, apple sauce, apple cider, etc. are a mainstay in my diet these days.  Thank goodness it is apple season.

    4) Rants/raves/concerns?

    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?

    6) GTKY:  What has been your favorite/most significant registry splurge - the item you stuck on the registry in hopes someone really would gift it to you and that you probably will not purchase for yourself?  We put one of the 4Moms MamaRoo swings on the registry, and were convinced no one would go for it.  If not gifted, I would have just picked up a regular swing or vibrating chair (probably both) second hand off the local swap board.  I was stupified, though, that we actually received the MamaRoo from my mother as her gift.  Stupified.

  • @curiousfool1  I'm jealous you got the 4moms swing.  My husband said no one would buy it for us so don't bother.  He talked me out of registering for it.

    1) How far along are you?
    33w 5d

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
no appts until 36 weeks on 10/27

    3) Cravings/symptoms?
no cravings.  Wicked heartburn as always.

    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
rant is my lack of sleep between heartburn and hip pain. I'm up every hour at least.   Rave is it is my anniversary today and I had a great weekend celebrating with my husband.

    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
all this discussion about baby position makes me worried about where mine is.   Hoping it's in place at my 36 week appointment.  As of right now baby is still hanging out up near my ribs.

    6) GTKY:  What has been your favorite/most significant registry splurge - the item you stuck on the registry in hopes someone really would gift it to you and that you probably will not purchase for yourself?
I didn't really put anything on my registry that was a splurge.  Some stuff we registered for just to get the completion discount but otherwise nothing super exciting.
  • 1) How far along are you? 33+4
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? My 34 week appt will be this Friday.
    3) Cravings/symptoms? My baby is also head down and is quite low, so I get a lot of pelvic pressure and what feels like headbutts to the cervix. And I thought I had kicked my insomnia, but it came back with a vengeance last night. Blerg.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns? I just can't wait for this little one to arrive. I hope time keeps flying by.
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
    6) GTKY:  What has been your favorite/most significant registry splurge - the item you stuck on the registry in hopes someone really would gift it to you and that you probably will not purchase for yourself? Fun question! We are lucky to be borrowing the 4moms swing and Halo bassinet from friends, so those are kind of fun "splurges" without anyone actually having to spend money. The biggest gift we had on our registry by far was the Guava Lotus travel crib (like a pack'n'play but crazy-easy to set up and break down and chemical-free), and I was definitely surprised that my wonderful colleague/employer got it for us. I also felt like an Aden & Anais dream blanket was a big registry splurge we wouldn't buy for ourselves, but someone accidentally marked it as purchased when they did not really purchase it, so no one got it... and then I realized how much I wanted it so I bought it myself after all!
  • 1) How far along are you? 33 weeks tomorrow

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?  last week I had a growth scan and cardiologist that resulted in 24 hours of chaos, but everything is fine. Biweekly OB check up this Thursday

    3) Cravings/symptoms?  stil love peanut butter. The heartburn is continually increasing despite Zantac

    4) Rants/raves/concerns? getting overwhelmed with people wanting to all come in town to see us after he is born. It's causing my stress level to rise

  • @DungeonTrollMel I feel your pain.  Not enough zantac in the world it feels like to deal with heartburn.  Sorry people are overwhelming you.  It is hard to tell people not to come visit but it is also not good for you to be stressed out.   Hopefully you are able to get it all worked out.
  • 1) How far along are you?
    34 weeks
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Had one last Thursday and this Thursday I go back in.
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
Just hemorrhoids and constipation still. Exhaustion. The norm.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
Had our maternity photos this weekend!
DH still hasn't done much that I've asked to prepare. Still need to clean the house (IE remove his jeep fenders and random crap of his from the dining room), nor has he talked to his work about paternity leave!

    6) GTKY:  What has been your favorite/most significant registry splurge - the item you stuck on the registry in hopes someone really would gift it to you and that you probably will not purchase for yourself?
the high chair was a big one for us. It was a fancier one so if we didn't get it gifted I probably would have gone for a cheaper one.
  • 1) How far along are you?
    35 weeks 1 day

    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Had an appointment  last week and was told baby is going to be big as she is measuring in the 89 percentile.

    3) Cravings/symptoms?
I want all the sweet things but trying to be good and go for veggies and friut.

    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
Rave did some shopping this weekend and I think we have everything we need for baby girl. Now just to pack our hospital bags.

    6) GTKY:  What has been your favorite/most significant registry splurge - the item you stuck on the registry in hopes someone really would gift it to you and that you probably will not purchase for yourself?
I don't think I had anything that I really wanted that I wouldn't buy myself. I was surprised someone got us the vicks vaporizer for a shower gift I figure I would have to buy it.
  • ) How far along are you?
    36W today
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Tomorrow is our next Check up. GBS swab which I'm not looking forward to and a blood draw to check my vitD.  I've been booked in for a formal US with an OB to check babies position as was breech 2 weeks ago at our last appointment .
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
Nothing new or worth mentioning .
Not sleeping well but less a symptom more discomfort
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
I'm trying to not stress but there's a lot going on and starting to freak out about not having things ready.
The move plus the baby is getting to be a lot on our plate especially since we have all these other commitments up till this Friday that are taking away time I could be cleaning packing and in general preparing my head space . Haven't seen hubby a lot these last 3 weeks either so it's making it hard to feel.like we are ready if this baby arrives
I still have a lot of trouble feeling like I can mum. And it's worse not being organised yet
And I'm VERY anxious for this baby to turn

    6) GTKY:  What has been your favorite/most significant registry splurge - the item you stuck on the registry in hopes someone really would gift it to you and that you probably will not purchase for yourself?
we don't do that here ..but as far as splurging it's hard to tell. We bought a house and a car and all new furnature (altho package deal)
We did get a $2k chair for the lounge for feeding since one won't fit in baby room . We got it cause it happened to be %50off . And It's lovely to sit in and it swivels hubby would of bought it regardless but I wouldn't of at full price seemed decadent.
As far as gifting goes we are trying to keep things on a needs basis . Between getting a new house and having a baby tho our parents have been very generous and we've been given money. My in laws gave us inheritance from his grandfather they have held onto until we got a house as we lived overseas when he passed. effectively they bought us the car so we'd be comfortable driving back and forth 2hr trips with bub and so it was reliable . Nany didn't want us to have any excuse not to visit . (Not that we would but they don't see a lot of their other son who's only 1 hr away in the other direction so I think she is worried they won't see the baby)

My aunt bought us a car seat. Obviously we would of got it and we picked what we would of got anyway but she paid for it .as she has done for both my siblings. they had no kids and we are a small but close family so it's what she has done for all of us.

All these big life things layering on top of each other is getting to be a lot on our plate but we have good support so as long as we have the basics ready I'm sure we can work it out from there
  • 1) How far along are you?
    35w
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Had my GBS swab on Monday. No dilation yet.
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
Having to pee. ALL the time. I don't think I've had a full night's sleep in a couple months now.
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
I'm getting tired of feeling uncomfortable all the time.
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?
    6) GTKY:  What has been your favorite/most significant registry splurge - the item you stuck on the registry in hopes someone really would gift it to you and that you probably will not purchase for yourself?
We didn't really put anything extravagant on the registry. I guess the thing that we really wanted to be gifted was the car seat/stroller system. We didn't have to worry about nursery furniture, as my parents got that for us.
  • 1) How far along are you?
    33 + a few days
    2) Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
had my midwife appointment and an ultrasound to check to see if my placenta moved as during my 20 week scan it was "just a hair too close to the cervix".  fingers crossed - i don't have the results yet!
    3) Cravings/symptoms?
i think that this is the phase where pregnancy is getting harder.  my fingers are swelling and painful, i can't breathe and get winded super easily, i can't seem to get comfortable enough to sleep, i have acid reflux and i have insomnia (have been up since 3am - wah).
    4) Rants/raves/concerns?
    rants!  see above!  :s
    5) Anything else you want to add/ask?

there hasn't been anything excessive on the registry (not that i feel anyway - ha ha) ... but one splurge that does't seem to be overly useful is a skip hop nightlight soother thingy.  soooooooo cute!
